I wish I found this thread earlier. Would have saved me a lot of confusion and panic. I finished DA2 this weekend and wanted to go back to DAO to play some DLC... and I've been trying to figure out why my Stone Prisoner/Warden's Keep/etc. from my Collector's Edition install weren't showing up.

Is there any idea when this might be fixed?

Bought original game when released. Disc got corrupted. Mailed it back with check for new disc. Four months later, EA cashes check. Five months later still waiting for disc. WTH....buy Ultimate Edition. Installed (you guessed it) April 9. SIgh.

Patience is more than a virtue. It's a life skill.

There has been no office update recently. Various people who called customer service have reported different quotes.

If you already own DAO then there are potential work arounds.

If you have installed the game before the server failure on Friday, then you can still play by launching the game, and selecting log out. You must also disable the auto-login function. You won't be connected to the servers, but your local files will allow you to load the DLC.

If you have a clean install, then you can still bypass the issue if you have a backup of the file that performs the authorization. You will need the file: \\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\Profile.dap

Replacing the autogenerated version of that file from a clean install should allow you to have offline authorization. You will still need to be logged out.

Darn. I have this issue also. I got home and sat down to play a bit before I headed off to bed, but no, denied. Here's hoping they fix it soon for everyone.

Oh well. More sleep for me then!

Well, I am glad to see that they acknowledged the problem at least. Now the step of getting it fixed would be excellent! Till then I've created a new game without the DLC. Figured I'd give the game a shot in a new way. Kinda like doing it for the first time. The virgin way of the game! Ha! Anyways, I'll probably get as far as I can without the DLC then pick it up once they get the servers up and going.

Come on, EA! 3 days?!
How they will handle a MMO server for SW:TOR if they can't handle a DRM server?!

Good point. It seems that we have a legitimate reason to worry about TOR now.

Since Fuzzy didn't reply to my idea, what do you think? For having put us all of us geeks through this, EA/Bioware should come with a free DLC featuring a Romance with a Darkspawn.

Romance with a darkspawn, you say?  Could be, um, interesting.  I would rather have a romance with Teagan myself.  He, Gilmore, Cullen and Tamlen are my fave. non-party NPCs.

For a second there I thought you was on about frisbee's

Hey, I'll take a free frisbee!  Since I have absolutely nothing else to do while they "fix the issue".  (And by absolutely nothing else, I mean I really have a huge pile of stuff to do and my favourite procratination tool is only half working.)

Dear Bioware and EA,

When I purchased Dragon Age:Origins I was SPECIFICALLY looking for a game which didn not require acces to the internet or a server for me to play. As someone who has spent much time and money playing WoW, DDO etc, it is nice (or so I thought) to have access to a game which I could play when I WANT to and not when the server was available.

Then this happens.....

As someone who has all the current DLC for DA:O and for DA:2 I am clearly stating now that I will NEVER be buying anymore DLC or programs from Bioware unless they comply with the playability they state in the games advertising i.e. That DA:O does not require access to the internet to play. I have no issue with an initial link to check authorisation but once it is authorised IT SHOULD NOT NEED CHECKING.

It has been three days since this issue started and to get some feedback 8 hours ago is 60 hours too long. I would assume that someone would monitor the servers, indeed several people notified the customer service departments over the weekend so you cannot say "we only noticed it now". If that is how you run your servers then heaven help you if you run an MMO because a shut down like this will crucify your game in short order.

And no - I won't be playing your MMO after this debacle.

To use the Australian vernacular " NOT HAPPY JAN!"

(in case you are wondering how old I am and how long I have played - I used to demo Rebel Assualt in stores on weekends in my mid 20's and I had been playing loooong before that)

Thanks for the research!

It was a glimmer of hope. Alas, I had backed up my Settings folder, but only after the DLC got de-authorized :(

Once the servers are up again and I have authorized content, I'll be sure to do that so I never have to deal with this nonsense again.

While you're waiting for things to get fixed, try playing the game while logged out. It's weird but it works.

It may require having authorized previously in the past so if you're brand new, it might not work.

On Topic: Still on vigil.
Out of Topic: They should add Duncan as a SRI. (Short Term Romantic Interest).

But admittedly Alaistair and Leliana are the best.

*Edit*

For all this grievance I would settle for them to add a free DLC featuring a romance with one of the DarkSpawn, especially that one that has the ear to ear long grin.

On topic:  Is it fixed yet?
Off topic:  I hate Leliana.  I really do.
Even more off topic: I have a 35lb cat. For realz.

You need to harden her, otherwise she's annoying. But don't harden Alistair, he's too cute being goofy and witty as he is.

*Edit*

And fat cats are the best.  But what do you think about that Darkspawn thing? Ah? AH?

Harden Leliana?  Like with a b**** slap to the face?  Unless I'm trying to "romance" her (and then dump her right after) I don't talk to her and just use the feast day gifts to get her to like me.  But, oh yeah, I can't do that because the feast day gifts are DLC.  So, if I continue to play (got two characters to Ostagar so far) I will be forced to talk to Leliana to get her approval up.  I hate you EA/BioWare.  I hate you so much.

Just stopping by to say it is just a tad somewhat extremely frustrating and to put another voice behind the "fix the thing so it doesn't happen again" message.

Me, and I'm sure I'll get made fun of for it from those outraged by this - but it comes down to a few things for me
1. It's a new Star Wars MMO
2. Every Bioware game I've played I've loved
3. I have faith and hope, that this will be an expierence that all parties involved will learn from.

Only time will tell if they will be able to maintain a MMO environment
Could have a few angry people if you lose your equipment after playing 200 hours plus because of a server error

For those who are interested in pressing this issue, I encourage you to reach out to online news/technology/gaming outlets.  I have done so in my own way, as I believe the current server issue has revealed a much larger one-- that this single-player game can be crippled for some by a server outage half a world away.  That doesn't seem right to me.

I don't want to hijack this thread.  I encourage you to visit this one if you're interested:

Best,

RI

p.s.  Thanks to all of you for the recent, kind words.

I dreamed everything was fixed. In my dream I opened the door and there were most of you, Harpy, Fuzzy, Raen... cheering and smiling, and you said: "We did it Cookie, we did it!". Some of the EA Reps came to the party too, we all joined Ferelden and cheered as Duncan was expecting us and told us: "We defeated them at Ostagar, we won, Warden, we won!"

We celebrated with some Orlesian pizza, dwarven ale (tasted horrible), and we danced! Then, in the dream, Duncan morphed into a Darkspawn, and it all turned into a Nightmare, the Darkspawn pointed at the screen where a big font text reading, "You are Unauthorized" showed up, and he started laughing. I gasped, in fear, and when I turned to look at the group, you were all Darkspawn as well! - It was horrible, HORRIBLE I tell you.

I prefer single player games rather then MMOs because server issues. Not being allowed to play a single player game because a server is down is the utmost frustrating thing.

Publishers and developers should re-think their methods for preventing piracy. They are only succeeding in preventing their loyal customers to play, while surely the pirates are playing it.

Please, no more server dependence for single player games.
