Rob,

Thank you for the update. I hope, once the immediate issue is resolved, Bioware/EA will consider one final patch for Origins. Ultimately, the best way to prevent this again is to make changes on the client side, to insure DLC needs to be authorized once.

It is a shame it's taken an event like this to get an official response in this forum. Setting aside the server error, DLC-related issues are the number one complaint gamers try to assist each other with on these forums. The actual installation and authorization was poorly designed and executed-- a fact also evidenced by the changes in how DLC is handled for DA2.

I still hold out hope that Bioware, and by extension EA, are companies of good character. Once the immediate issue has past, the larger, looming issue should be addressed professionally and with finality.

Hear hear. Well spoken Sir! (or "written" if you want to get technical ;-))

You have a lot of faith. Much more than I do.

Nothing that's done now can change my oppinion Bioware's actions and products over the past couple of months.

I will not buy another Bioware game. Period.

I have to thank you for actually giving us players a response on this issue, because for a none online game that you install to your hard drive and should be able to play without having to have internet access constantly getting an issue where you can't play because of a server going down... well its not a good thing. I do agree with nearly all the comments made on the other thread, it really isn't right.

Once your game has authorized the content you should no longer have to do that, because it causes problems for those who have already authorized it once. I can understand the problem for those who have just installed like me, but for others it is far worse.

This is an issue that I hope is looked at seriously and is given some consideration for future issues that may arise.

Wait, they will update when they know more? It's been, what, nearly 72 hours, and they've only gotten so far as "Oh, look, it's broken"?

I can't see them either, it's because the servers are down, I'd guess because the server is not working, it thinks you are either offline and thus not list the things or it can't receive the DLC list from the server.

At least a few of our forum goers managed to get a discount coupon. Not all, but some.

Hi, I had this since 2010 January. :wizard:

Rob's choice of title for this post is unfortunate, since it actually describes the most common issue people have with the game-- and that's when all the servers are working correctly.

"Unauthorized DLC" is as synonymous with Dragon Age as anything else.  Once again, I hope some good will come out of this annoying situation, and that someone, somewhere at Bioware or EA will realize that more work is needed, patch-wise, the try make DLC managable.

I have to agree vicious796 at least some users managed to get a coupon, I sadly wasn't one of them but I placed my faith in Bioware/EA in resolving it... apparently that wasn't well placed since I had expected an issue so big to have been resolved within 24-48 hours of it having come up. Surely someone had noticed this issue? Before the users themselves did.

As long as it has taken to admit they are "clueless", I simply don't believe anything they say.

Regardless of when it was noticed, the truth of it is that DA:O is not a top priority game of theirs. DA2, ME2, and on some levels WAR (though that's debatable) are the "prime attention" games. DA:O is on the backburner and there's no reason to "call in the help" over the weekend for a last-gen game.

We apologize for the inconvenience and are currently investigating and working to resolve the issue on our end. We will update this thread once we know more.

@Rob Bartel
To avoid future complications, just release a small patch and remove the need for authentication. Your game is cracked so anyone who don't want to spend money on it will not do it anyway.

I would say authentication does not need to be removed, but rather fixed.  I personally have no issue if it has to be authenticated ONCE.  But every time I log in?

This problem began on Friday and there's only an official announcement 3 days later - late in the day? Terrible customer support.

Speaking of "support" I had even used the EA chat support this weekend, and spoke with two agents - neither of whom advised me that the servers were down. I spent a good part of my weekend troubleshooting a problem that I had no control over.

EA/BioWare better come up with a solution to this so that people who paid for their products can actually enjoy what they paid for. I've never had so many problems with any software - and this is a GAME - not some complex ERP system!!

I was considering getting DA2, but will not because of this poorly-managed fiasco. Epic fail!

I believe if you start a new character without the DLC addons, they'll appear after it's (potentially) resolved!

I suppose that is right, but if I was a company like them, I would even make sure games like DA:O especially after its sequel is released would be watched closely. Since sequels tend to make players replay the first one, especially when the story continues in some form in the sequel. But all I can hope for now is that they do resolve the issue.

That being the case, and the game suffers less support then the DRM NEEDS to be removed from origins as this situation is unacceptable.

Or - as Raen has covered - made so that it checks only once.

Thank you Bioware for finally put out an official response about the problems that we are having with the dlc's (and thus the server), since friday night (!!!).

I really hope that this becomes a priority to fix.
Maybe come up with a patch to do thee dlc like with DA2, it works far better.

Respond soon with an update and ETA.

Thank you.

It would be the best option they have to patch it so it only checks the authorization once. I mean that should surely be enough? Cause I can't see what checking it every time you load your game does... except possibly annoy the players when something like this happens.

Those willing to fiddle with mods can fix that, at least.

Oh hell... You just reminded me I didn't back up my mods before I uninstalled. <_< lol. Can't play this game without Leliana's Sacred Ashes face mod. :pinched:
