Maybe we should all be ranting and raving in the DA2 forums. I still say we should be assaulting their facebook and twitter accounts with posts about when this is going to be fixed

All I got from EA support was the following:

  • 916228621: please tell Bioware they have many unhappy gamers right now: http://social.biowar...8/index/7036701
  • Scott: They definitely know this , that is why they are working day and night to resolve issue .
  • Scott: But you never know how much time technical issue take
So, the "official" ETA right now is "no ETA".

I doubt anything we can do will speed up this "suspiciously mysterious technical issue" which will be fixed tomorrow (as in not today, whatever day it is).

My first post around...

Same problem as everybody, with DAUltimate/Mac, partially resolved with the Addins.xml editing... I think I can access all campaigns and dungeons...

But the items I gained access to by completing the DLCs don't appear in the two main campaigns. Characters saved before Bioware/EA week-end's blight are mostly OK, just missing the "Dragonbone Cleaver" and the "High Regard of House Dace". But since the archdemon calling, every character I create come with less and less of that DLC equipment. "The Battledress of the Provocateur" was the first to disappear... Now my new characters are born entirely nude (except for the "Blood Dragon Plate")...

Does someone know if that's an older issue, or if is it linked to the "authorization / addins.xml" problem ?

Well, here is the latest from EA
Shane: Hi, my name is Shane. How may I help you?
2380978889: I am wondering if there is any ETA on the Dragonage origins Server Getting Fixed
Shane: Hello,
Shane: It might take around 24-48 hours for it to get fixed.
2380978889: Ok, thank you. Do they know what is wrong yet?
Shane: The servers are under maintenance.
2380978889:
Cause they said 24-48 hours three days ago
Shane: Yes
Shane: But due to the traffic it gets delayed.
Shane: I do apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.
2380978889:
Right. Thank you for your time.
2380978889: Have a nice day.
You have disconnected.

just got offline with EA support..... they gave me a workaround for this, but don't know when
(or, god forbid, IF) they will fix servers..... here's the workaround......

go to your documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/Settings folder
find addins.xml, and edit it in wordpad.....
find all instances of RequiresAuthorization="1" and change to RequiresAuthorization="0"
save file

I was able to load a saved file to play. I'm not sure if there will be long term effects to this
workaround, but it seems to do the trick for now.

I worked for iNTEL for 9 years, and kept a server farm up and running for 7 continuous years.
The most downtime I ever had was 36hrs. I even had our building's transformer catch fire and
burn to the ground, and we had the servers back online in less than 8 hours. This tells me
one of two things are going on......
1. EA's IT department needs some heads to roll
2. EA doesn't value their customer base beyond the initial purchase.
If number two is correct, I may have to change my buying habits.

Check around for the earlier discussion of this issue
(Friday and Saturday), this workaround will only allow you to load your Saved
Game, but you will either not be able to use the DLC or cause items related to
the DLC to be missing. If you happen to save your game and later when (and if)
the problem gets solved you may have issues.

I was having this issue of unauthorized DLC over the last weekend. I don't know whether this will help but I'll post how I fixed mine. Steam version, btw.

For me it was my router, the ports the game needed never mattered before. I own a linksys router and made the IP of my machine the DMZ host, now all DLC is available to me again.

If you cant make yours a DMZ host ( i don't know if other routers have this) you'll need to manually forward the ports that DA:O needs to validate .

Hope this helps.

All that does for alot of us is allow the game to load, but items dependant on DLC disappear.

For those of you in CA, USA, here is the link to file a complaint with the Attorney General. I and others have filed one. The law firm that is handling the class action against EA is also considering the matter. File as many complaints as you can. CA is where EA is based and is a state that aggressively handles these problems. At a minimum, dealing with the AG investigation will wipe out any profits made on the sale of this game:

This seems like an episode from the Twilight Zone. This issue has been discussed extensively shortly since it started on Friday. We have had hordes of community members contact Customer Service and many of us had the reps acknowledge the situation (some of us got coupons as compensations). I wonder why do they keep misinforming the customers like in your post? I would really like to still think that Bioware and by extension E.A. are respectable companies that wouldn't purposedly waste their customer's time so cheaply.

Review this thread and the ones RaenImrahl. has started, and we have been posting since Friday... So sorry you had to go through all that Piki.

For most cases it only lets you load the games. The DLC becomes unstable.

And what exactly do you want to sue for? Waste of time? Being forced to spend the weekend outdoors instead of playing DA:O inside?

So I gave up last night, finished playing Metro 2033, had a nice sleep, I come back, and what not? No progress. 24-48 hours. Also, did anyone else notice the "delayed due to server traffic" answer Sephilim get? What kind of nonsense is that? The server is down. That's why we can't use it. There is not traffic, you're server is broken. I'm tired of getting lies in response.

On a rosier note, I'm happy to see more people found humor from my discussion with the intrepid EA Tech Philbert in the wee hours of the night. I imagine Philbert as a stoic, crime fighting hero, myself. During the days, he does a terrible job of being a tech support admin, but at night, oh boy, you'd best hope you don't meet the wrath of Philbert the Black.

After this pathetic situation is finally fixed, EA had better patch the game so DLC no longer needs authorisation. Not only so this does not happen again, but also as some kind of apology to it's customers. Didn't Ubisoft do just that after something similar happened with Assassin's Creed 2?

This particular issue started this last Friday. However if you already (at least once) authorized your DLC you may be able to play normally while offline. The problem is for those who did a fresh install (purchased a new copy or reinstalled by instructions from Customer Service).

And I just re-post the major other workaround here, since people don't seem to bother reading through more than a few posts:

If you have authorized your DLC once before the Weekend of Doom (ie, the last one), start the game, LOG OUT, resume game. DLC is enabled and working.

Works with many people and you don't have to meddle with xml editing.

BTW, RCookie, RaenImrahl's profile you linked to is private and not readable. But I linked to his thread dealing with our problem in my signature down there...

This is about speeding up the fixing of the issue. This is about BioWare/EA owning up to their mistakes, realizing that they let down a good portion of their player/buying base and that this is a serious issue that includes the server not being up, the customer service reps lying and giving people the run around/non-factual ways of fixing the problem, and that they haven't come forward to issue a formal apology.

Guess what, if you make a mistake - if you mess something up you say I'M SORRY. I truly think they need to do something more than I'm sorry but I'll accept an admission of guilt. Preferably as a full page ad in Gameinformer.

Honestly wouldn't all of you respect a game company more if they came out and make a full fledged apology for their errors and actions?

Can they really put a price tag on what this might cost them down the road because they aren't getting their customer service act into gear?

I'm a disabled former teacher, can't work due in the classroom due to my fibromyalgia/pain. So I play some games sometimes so I can try and forget about my abysmal condition. This isn't something that is lifechanging, however I paid my dues in buying this game. I paid for a functioning single player game with all the DLCs. They should be trying to make sure no matter what we can play it.

I wish they'd send me an email hiring me for their customer service because seriously they need someone who understands our frustrations and not wishing to hear lies.

I agree.

CFairy, I understand you are upset (like most of us). And you have been mentioning this on the forums for some time now, however it seems a bit silly. The response to this should simply be stop sponsoring them. Simple. I for one enjoy Bioware games, and will probably keep buying their products (provided they continue to focus on the quality as they have). But I will certainly be a lot more wary when exploring new games offered by E.A. The optimist in me wants to believe the end result of this situation will be a positive one (fixes in the DRM system). So let's hope they sort this out soon.

If the servers aren't up or a solution offered by Thursday, I'm just going to put the game under a stack of others I've been curious about. Maybe by the time I get back to it they'll have something done or I'll just avoid any EA game with anything close to this type of DRM in it. Want to give BioWare as much slack as possible (longest string of games I've loved from a company) but there comes a limit when you've just got to stop funding companies that care more about short term gains than long term commitments.

People who are talking about class action suits need to seriously get a grip. All that has ever done is line the pockets of lawyers and give customers a pathetic offering of a discount on future purchases. If you can't stand the company's ethics, why would a discount make everything alright? Better off voting with your wallet and giving their competition (if any exists with all the buyouts) a try to win you over. As with the MMORPGs, if they get it fixed you have only been denied access for a limited time to your purchases not the purchased items themselves..
