Just want to reiterate (as said by many forumers) that this is a very bad stain on Bioware/EA's reputation. A lot of time has passed and still the problem isnt identified or something...

Both areas are DLC, hence you cannot load one and see the other.

I just wish I knew if my problem was related ... I'm a bit confused because the 'unable to load area' error appears to have happened to people before, but I can't find a fix for it. At the same time, with these problems, if it HASN'T been fixed, it seems like I shouldn't have been able to even do the lead in quest to Return to Ostagar--but I was able to do so. I just can't get into Ostagar now without 'unable to load area', and Soldier's Peak isn't even showing up on the map. It's my first time playing through the game, so I don't know if I can't see it because my level is too low, or what?

EDIT: Thank you ... I just don't get how I was able to do the lead in quest which is also DLC ... and my use of that content should make it so I can't play at all now, shouldn't it? Since I now have DLC content in my save file? I'm still able to load into non-DLC areas.

First of all I always had issues with the server side of DLC so I had to do this and it works now.

YOUfollowing these instructions and conditions

1.) First of all I started the DAO Updater services, It was off in my services. ( I don't know if this has any effect but it was the first action I did so thought I would mention.

2.) Next you must have manually downloaded your DLC and Campaign content.

   * Login to your Bioware Social Network Account ( you have already if you are reading this)

   * Under your profile Picture you will see your option menu (whats new, profile, My Content, My games,etc.)
 
   * Roll over the Profile option 
 
   * Select Your registered game content from the slide out list

   * This will show you all DLC from every BIOWARE game that is handled by this Social Network that you own
    (DA:O, DA:A,DA2,ME2,WHO,etc.)
 
   * This list will have more info text or just download listed next to each item.

    * Click on these for each DLC you want and once it opens it will give you the option to manually download the
    ZIP file with the DA.zip file contained for that specific content.

    * Once you do that unzip that content after putting it in a folder (I reccomend keeping a good file system for 
    ease of use).
 
     Double click the DA.zip and the DA Content update manager will open, add all files for that DLC. 
 
     CLICK install

I installed the Campaign Darkspawn Chronicles over again via DA.zip updater and then ran DA:O

DO NOT LOG IN, UNCHECK the auto login option. I checked again all my content was installed and registered for use. If you log in the broken server will break your DLCs again. You must play in LOGGED OFF

Thats it I reinstalled one campaign and that cionvinced the launcher that it was authorized, as long as it doesn't try to contact the broken server, if your DLC updater service works, you may or may not as mentioned have to stop that as well.

The end result is launch DA:O uncheck Auto log in, log out. follow instructions. Try installing one campaign DLC at first. Launch DAO. DO NOT LOG IN. see if your content is all registered. if it is- THERE you go. PLAY ON my friends. If you have all the content who cares if it doesn't sloppily log your stats and screenshots for a while.

If not see if the content you just installed manually is there, if so you may need to do so for each DLC.

Do this for any content that you have in your DA:O section of registered DLCs YOU must Legally OWN the content and have had it authorized at least once somewhere along the line. That means it shows as authorized in the Social Forum not the game menu. As long as you own it basically.

IMPORTANT you may not have to download all of the content, but at least one.

I say this because my DA Updater service malfunctioned and I had to install all my DLC content manually so you MAY or May NOT be required to do this.
 
Mine were all installed by me on the client side previously, but this shouldn't matter but if the final step next does not work manually install all content you want to work

Not entirely sure if this works for people who did a fresh install (New purchase, reinstall, etc). Or newly purchased DLC... but if someone wants to go through that and confirm, that couldn't hurt.

Some of the DLC (e.g. Feral Wolf Charm and 18 others) does not have a standalone download.

Yes but when I installed just one of the manual content modules they all worked. Most of my content was installed manually but some was installed by the auto dlc in game updater before I installed manually. Embrys Many pockets, Blood dragon armor, Stone prisoner and a few more were all server installed and a few others that offer no manual DLC, but they all authorized. I think it is just about having the re-install over the content writes in the authorization code and it mimics the server side authorize. 

I am still playing away with all my DLC, and All I reinstalled manually was the Darkspawn chronicles, hey it is not  that hard and worth a try. Ecspecially if it works with one install. Anyway I have ALOT of DLCs and they all worked.

Those issues do not sound related. This server issue may not have hit exactly for you yet. You are right some areas do not reveal until you are in a certain sequence in the storyline or you have to trigger the area through a conversation or a trigger event. So maybe keep looking.

But first thing,

Just try manually re-installing one piece of content from DA:O, one campaign say Golemns of Amgarrak, or Lelianas Song, or Witch hunt which all have easy install content --

Witch hunt has a stand alone install kit with one Da.zip for the whole add on and the extras for it (i.e weapons)it is probably the easiest

Yes, strangely enough awakenings was ok, without the extra dlc .. of course lolz...so I will re download everything stay away from ultimate for now and manually download from doomed site...just another 2 hrs..in the grand scheme of things.

Sounds like you forcefully tricked the game to believe you have the DLC authorized through changing "RequiringAuthorization=1" to "RequiringAuthorization=0".
By doing this, you are allowed to play the game, but the DLC are inaccessable, although you may see partly of them in the game itself. <_<

Yes, I had the conversation with the guy for Soldier's Peak, and he told me that he had marked it on my map, but when I went to go there, the map point just isn't there. That's when I saw the other 'golden' map point, loaded in there instead to see if I just had to get closer to Soldier's Peak geographically to see it (as I said, my first play through, so I'm still learning the ins and outs of the game). No luck, but it did reveal the map point for Ostagar. I clicked it ... crash out with 'unable to load area'. The only fix I've found mentioned online is to exit out and reload--tried that twice, no luck. 

I'm not overly enthusiastic about my chances of getting Bioware to fix the problem for me via tech support, given their apparent track record for not giving a crap about their customers once they have their money. I can't decide whether to regret buying the game or not, since I've really enjoyed it so far. But I won't be buying another game from them, that's for sure.

Same here My awakenings content was unbothered as well. That was the only campaign that worked, well its like a different game really..obviously. hehe

I have been having the authorization problem off and on for quite some time, but usually logging out and back in or restarting the game authorized everything just fine. Now, everything is installed and authorized except for my Collector's Edition Content. I can play, but some characters are missing that equipment. Is this the main problem, things not authorizing right now? If so that has been happening since release. They are JUST NOW getting around to addressing it? Bioware you silly gooses! I bet the only reason you are worried about it now is if it is affecting DA2 also...

Well, damn. Yes, I did do that. I purchased the ultimate edition and installed it. The first time I loaded it up, all was well. Then I either crashed out or my computer crashed or I decided to try another character ... can't remember. It was a month or two ago. And when I started the game up, I got the unauthorized error with all my extra content files. I looked up a fix online, and found the 1 to 0 trick. It worked to get me playing, I didn't read on the fix that it would prevent my actually playing the DLC content. Which is sort of a bummer, because that's the only reason that did the trick to begin with. I was early enough in the game that I could have played without the DLC content--it wasn't stopping me from actually loading in.

And I'm guessing if I changed it back now, I'd not even be able to load in, because the servers are borked.

AddIns.xml from 1 to 0 was not an option as I could not find anything that resembled authorization..so OB1...my only hope, 2 hrs remaining still.
