Those issues do not sound related. This server issue may not have hit exactly for you yet. You are right some areas do not reveal until you are in a certain sequence in the storyline or you have to trigger the area through a conversation or a trigger event. So maybe keep looking.

Yes, I had the conversation with the guy for Soldier's Peak, and he told me that he had marked it on my map, but when I went to go there, the map point just isn't there. That's when I saw the other 'golden' map point, loaded in there instead to see if I just had to get closer to Soldier's Peak geographically to see it (as I said, my first play through, so I'm still learning the ins and outs of the game). No luck, but it did reveal the map point for Ostagar. I clicked it ... crash out with 'unable to load area'. The only fix I've found mentioned online is to exit out and reload--tried that twice, no luck.

I'm not overly enthusiastic about my chances of getting Bioware to fix the problem for me via tech support, given their apparent track record for not giving a crap about their customers once they have their money. I can't decide whether to regret buying the game or not, since I've really enjoyed it so far. But I won't be buying another game from them, that's for sure.

It seems like the bad server(s) may be the issue, but it doesn'y seem that way. Was the game like this from the first time you installed it? Was it ever fully operational with no errors before the Blight Weekend?
It is a shame because Origins is a great game I haven't finished all of it yet, but still bought DA2. But I am trying to finish O first even though its not necessary to the story, but it does tie in a bit. just a preference. I have had a few issues, but found answers here on the forums and with driver updates for my video card and other fixes.

It is a game that is worth trying to fix even if it seems like no technical help is readily available.

Just try until its no longer worth it to you.

Good luck, that unable to load could be a install issue or even a driver related issue what type version are you on? When was the last time you checked your computers memory for consistency or errors?

Good Luck I know how a broken game really hurts. Its frustrating.

It is probably the consoles only advantage, less catostrophic errors, but PC graphics and game versions are so much nicer with a good rig.

Xarahaze's solution does not work for me. Probably because I'm using the Deluxe release, which bundled everything together and installed as a whole. It seems to have slightly different DRM than Steam or piece-mail installations.

Thanks for the suggestion, though. Since it worked for you it was worth a try.

Well, damn. Yes, I did do that. I purchased the ultimate edition and installed it. The first time I loaded it up, all was well. Then I either crashed out or my computer crashed or I decided to try another character ... can't remember. It was a month or two ago. And when I started the game up, I got the unauthorized error with all my extra content files. I looked up a fix online, and found the 1 to 0 trick. It worked to get me playing, I didn't read on the fix that it would prevent my actually playing the DLC content. Which is sort of a bummer, because that's the only reason that did the trick to begin with. I was early enough in the game that I could have played without the DLC content--it wasn't stopping me from actually loading in.

And I'm guessing if I changed it back now, I'd not even be able to load in, because the servers are borked.

Sounds like again you had the problem back then before the crash.

Let's say in such scenario:
If you are still unauthorized to play the DLC, even though the server works fine, and your connection is working.
It could be the daupdatersvc.service having problem to start, which would cause you unable to authorize your DLC upon login.

If that was the case. You need to Run "services.msc", and find "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater" through the list it'll show, and just run it. By that upon login, your DLC should be authorized.

But indeed, if the server isn't working, this wouldn't help until they are done with their part...

I hope they fix this soon. I wanted to go for my second playthrough now that DA2 is out and reinstalled the game. I cannot download any DLC though. Is this related? I really really hope it is. I can download most of the DLC I own via the social community website here, but not everything. Shales DLC for instance can only be downloaded ingame...

NP, Sorry it didn't work for you. I should have mentioned My Origins is Day one release retail copy and I purchased each "piece" of DLC as it released. So it is different than a deluxe install.

I hope it will help some, and I wished it could of helped you. I feel for all with this bad news issue.

No, it won't work because for all of his elaborate steps, he's essentially just doing the same thing as manually changing the XML file.

If logging out, exiting Dragon Age, and then restarting the program does not work, you're out of luck until the server comes back.  Period.

Xarahaze--I have a top end gaming rig. Well ... it was top end a year ago, anyway. So let's call it a toppish end. ;) It runs World of Warcraft and Dragon Age at the same time without breaking a sweat on max graphics settings. I'm running a memory check right now just because I haven't done it for a qhile, so thanks for the reminder. Doubt it will help with this problem, but it a good idea anyway ... I think my previous workaround for an unrelated authorization issue is the problem.

Yes, I'm thinking I probably shouldn't fix it just yet, or I'll be in the same boat as everyone else. Maybe I'll just goof around with another character so as not to mess up my main while I wait for Bioware to get their act together (which will hopefully be soon, though I'm guessing we shouldn't hold our collective breath). Thank you for the fix information, I'll definitely be doing that as soon as the servers are fixed.

You guys are great. I'm glad that in the absence of a company that cares, the player base is a friendly and helpful bunch. It's a nice change from WoW where it seems the company is mediocre and the player base is generally worse.

Now the downside ... I play Dragon Age because it helps me study ... as a result of my fighting with the game trying to get to work I've gotten exactly no studying done this morning. Bah. Time to read my eyes out.

I had the services.msc not running issue intermittently all the time, that is whay I had to manually install content here and there. It may be why I am able to leave my account offline and use my DLC. after I reinstalled one of them to "trick" authorization

Well I wish you all good luck, I am going to watch the youtube video then play Origins for a while (wish you could be there with me friends)

So it's been 24 hours since Rob posted, would be nice with some kind of update. Even if it's just admitting they don't have a clue on whats wrong (if that would be the case).

I was still irritated I could not use the free mass 2 promo.. (mac user)..but no matter, but this ..this is unforgivable...downloading standard edition see what happens.

Unfortunately once you do a fresh install (like in my case I bought the UE on Friday), the file that contains the "Authorization check" gets overwritten. So uninstalling will probably not help. Also the "workaround" of changing the 1 to 0, only allows the player to load the game, but not use the DLC...

:?

I was considering playing The Old Republic when it comes out, but if this is how they handle server issues for a single player game I think I'll pass. ^-^;

quite Infuriating! I finished my second play through of DA2, and went to pickup the last origins campaign from where I last left off so I'd have a different version of events for another da2 play and it won't allow me to play origins because it can't confirm the DLC. One time It was kind enough to let me into my game but my characters Blood-dragon armour was stripped off and Shale wouldn't go into any modes. Dragonage2 needs a lot of work with it's bugs/glitches as well so get this server dlc authentication issue fixed so you can get a patch SOON for da2.

Bah I spoke too soon. Even though my Warden's Keep and Stone Prisoner content say that they are enabled and authorized, they have disappeared from my map. GRR. This is frustrating to no end/

Anyone experiencing this issue and wanting to use the DLC, you can try this:

Start the game, ESC the intro screens and immediately click on load save and the one you want from the top of the list. You have about two seconds to do it once the main menu appears, because in that timeframe the profile is logged in but the authentication thing hasn't had time to run. I managed to start a new Darkspawn Chronicles campaign that way, as well as Witch Hunt and Golems of Amgarrak, with a logged in profile. Once you manage to do that, you can make and load saves and it treats them as if everything is okay despite the server issue being ongoing.

Or you can just play in offline mode. But if you want the DLC and to be logged in, that's worth a try. The game also has to upload any new achievements from DLC in that same timeframe or it will show them as locked (when you view in offline mode, you can't view them at all if the content is unauthorized when logged in).

Curiously, if you ever had DLC from the original edition and managed to unlock something with it, then that will show in your profile even when logged out. For this reason I see Warden's Keep achievements and Rock and a Hard Place from Stone Prisoner in my regular profile despite bing DLC. Probably related to the m,ultiple social network personas issue (see separate thread I posted before I knew about that, http://social.biowar...8/index/7050562 )

Yes likely true cookie however I am not so sure my promo code was taken, and if by the off chance one of my older installs kicks in, my deluxe was fine yesterday, but as it contains xtra content I wont even try, I will be happy tho with the old fashioned way...standard. As i did have that option this morning, something about seeing that unauthorized infuriates me to no end...so this way if I try and manually download xtra content if it does not work, o well I still can play the original till it is all fixed.

Hello and welcome to the ordeal Edirr. That one has been discussed, however that's a workaround for those who at any point have previously had their DLC authorized. For those who did a fresh install, a resintall, or purchased the game since Friday, this unfortunately, won't work.

Yeah, I've been around here since Friday. Too many threads and move too quickly, no time to read everything. Thanks for the welcome, though. :)

And yes, for the reinstallers, no joy. I guess the finicky temperament of PCs has conditioned people to try reinstall as a choice of first resort rather than suspecting something else. Being tech support by profession and damn good at it too, I use it as a last resort with things as complex as Dragon Age, since it has always run without bugs for me. Figured it had to be a server issue.

Hmm... It used to be that before, when you started the game and tried to load a save too quick, it gave you that same unauthorized error. Wait a few seconds, try again and it would work. Now it's the exact opposite, so I wonder if someonw with hands full of thumbs accidentally changed something to reverse the authorization, so that successful login unauthorizes things and you can load things in the few second window before the server transaction completes.

It would only require reversing one variable of the process from true to false and that kind of thing could be damn hard to find too if they don't know what they're looking for...

I don't have any particular insight to add to this issue, but I do want to add my name to the list of the aggrieved.  I purchased the Ultimte edition about a month ago it has has been a great game up until Friday morning (4/8) when the DLC went belly-up for me.  Since I had no idea at the time that the DLC was really authorized by a server call, I turned my PC upside down trying to find issues on my side, which turned into about 7-8 hours of uninstall/reinstall/download/tweak - lather, rinse, repeat.  It was only after about mid day on 4/9 that I finally got in touch with someone at EA support that mentioned it was a server issue.  They offered me a coupon for my pain, but I am going to have to think long and hard about ever buying a new BioWare or EA title so the coupon isn't likely to be all that useful for me.

At any rate, the lack of any meaningful acknowledgement from the devs/admins is a real slap i the face considering i paid full price for the game less than a month ago. There should be some mechanism when the game attempts to connect to the server to display a message indicating that there is a server side issue.  After all of the mucking around that I have done with the game and xml files in the past 4 days I have serious doubts whether it is all going to work right on my PC after the DLC bug is fixed.

Harrumph!
