The only problem I see with that is in the far future, how can EA guarantee that I will be able to play DAO in 10years? I still play BG1-2, ok they are far better then DAO imo but still wouldn't suprise me if people want to make a playthrough in the future.
Will we need to get hold of a cracked copy just to play the game then?
If they get more money from DAO DLCs it will not be because the DRM checks for authentication one time or zero times, it will be because the person always pays for their games or because they want to support bioware/ea.
In the long run it will cost EA more money becaue it there will always be people that have trouble with the authentication and thus needs support.
I've seen something from the developers about this. I don't recall where... probably one of the many, many threads that were posted when the DRM for DA2 was announced (or sort-of announced). IIRC, there are "sunset" plans in place, which would essentially mean some sort of patch or something to allow "legacy" games to be played.

I suppose that is right, but if I was a company like them, I would even make sure games like DA:O especially after its sequel is released would be watched closely. Since sequels tend to make players replay the first one, especially when the story continues in some form in the sequel. But all I can hope for now is that they do resolve the issue.
Aye, I think Bioware (and EA) would be interested to know that with the release of Dragon Age II, the popularity of the original game shot up so much again in recent weeks that I noticed the PC version of DA:O was in the top 10 games list on Gamefaqs.com for a solid period again.
Common sense, peeps.
That and with the release of Dragon Age 2 there are new people playing the games, and thus more than likely bought the first game as well in order not to miss any of the story line. I mean the sales of ME went back up when ME2 was released so surely they could have predicted the same for DA:O when the DA2 was released.
That's exactly why I bought Origins a few weeks ago. Because I didn't wanna start DA2 and not know what the hell was going on.

Could you please answer if I will be able to play DA:O (the game I paid you for) in 2015? Judging by this weekend issue, you aren't only using DLC to avoid piracy, you (as a company of course) LIMIT the playable period od the game to the lifetime of your servers.
I still play Planescape Torment, Vampire: The Masquerade, while Black Isle and Troika are no more. Will I be able to play DA:O 5 years later?

I think RaenImrahl answered that a mere 2 posts up.

Its why I bought the Ultimate Edition, after playing DA2 I found that with the DLC in DA:O it could affect DA2 more... then came upon this problem.

wow finally someone. you'd not be bothered to look into it during the weekend, right bioware? i will remember that next time you release a game
I'm still betting that that is what happened; no one even knew about this problem who could fix it over the weekend. They probably came in this morning and were told about how it'd been down almost since they left for the weekend.

Wow, I didn't see it, my bad. I'd still like to hear official response on this though. This is very important thing to know before you buy a game.

Lol, that DA2 I have registered was actually a PS3 rental version XD. I was simply the first person to rent that specific copy so I used the codes, XD. Thought the game seemed interesting so I picked up origins on the PC a week or so later.

Actually DA2 goes into little detail about the Grey Wardens or the Darkspawn, something which may be key to the third game that and it does affect some of the things that happen in the game be it a comment here or there. But it does make the game a bit better having played it through with DA:O save game myself and having heard the last name of the Elf Origin be mentioned.

Still, if that were even true (I doubt it with a company this big) - they only even acknowledged the problem at the end of the day.
Unacceptable level of customer service with such a big issue.
