We're continuing to investigate, both here and at EA. We have some theories about what is occurring but no firm fix at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience and request your patience while our engineers continue working towards a solution.

Thank you.

Yup..soo pretty much nothing new. Well thanks for giving us a heads up at least! Not to nit-pick or sound greedy, but you would think BiowarEA would offer something in return for this mess. Maybe a few free points? Nothing massive. I understand needing to make a profit, but this is a big issue that just fixing almost doesn't seem like enough. I'll just be happy when I'll be able to use my DLC again. By that time though, I'll probably be done with my play through and on to DA2.

This is so, so sad.

After talking to two agents on the EA chat support on Saturday (neither of them advised me of the server problem), I had re-installed the game. Since I had a digital copy, I had to download it again. At 27 Gig, that takes a LOT of time and bandwidth. The EA Download Manager didn't even save a copy of the installer (even though I set it up to do that) so I wouldn't have to download the whole thing again if need be.

Well after 18+ hours of downloading, the installation somehow screwed up. Interestingly, I was able to get into the game, but of course, DLC was unauthorized. I then checked to see if the DAupdater service was installed, which it wasn't. So I installed it and started the service. The next time I launched the game, I got an error: "awc.dll misconfiguration. Please reinstall and try again."

Reinstall??!! I just spent the last 18+ hours downloading it!!

I then submitted a ticket with EA support. That was 60+ hours ago and I have yet to receive ANY response, not even acknowledgment of receipt.

So now, because of:
a) a very poor DRM design
B) no forum announcement that the servers were down (this forum was the first place I checked after initially getting the problem Friday evening.)
c) poor customer support that could have prevented a lot of grief by simply saying "Sorry - the servers are down."
d) a corrupted installation by the EA DLM
e) no response from EA tech support
I wasted a good portion of my weekend troubleshooting and reinstalling a game that doesn’t even launch now.

So what are my options?

1) I can do nothing, and wait and hope that EA will a) fix the server problem in general and B) resolve my problem in particular.
2) I can do the right thing by writing a lot of messages to EA and other forums in an effort to a) inform people about EA’s current poor DRM and customer service quality and B) encourage EA to revisit its DRM technology. However, after all the time I’ve already spent on this fiasco, I really don’t feel like wasting any more energy on it.
3) Get a pirated version.

I’ve always bought games (many from EA) because I believe the developers’ efforts should be recognized and rewarded. But I honestly feel “pirated” by EA at this point. They have my money, I can’t even play a non-DLC version of DAO, and I have yet to hear from them.

So sad that their poor system to prevent piracy is encouraging their legitimate customers to see it as an option – if not the only one.

I'm going to remove "Rob" from the list of potential names for my first born child now. Along with EA and BioWare.

This made my day, I'm going to name my child Dollporn..... Wait that's too risque... just Porn.

Thank you for the update.  Again, I hope once the immediate issue is resolved, there will be swift and decisive action taken to correct the inherent flaws in the DLC's DRM itself.  This server issue is just one symptom of a much larger problem... one that's been documented on this very forum for many, many months without comment from Bioware.

Better break out the lawn chairs and lemonade. We're gonna be here for a while yet. They haven't even identified the problem yet?

I'll give you guys at EA a clue: "it's the f_ _ _ing D_M."

class act these guys... Okay, Bartel, I don't even want to know when yall are gonna get this back in order. I'm now only interested on exactly how Bioware/EA intends to compensate us? If this happened to this extent on a Blizzard server, they'd credit time. What are you gonna do?

If I just disable the DLC content will it "break" my game? In other words when the servers are fixed will I no longer be able to access the DLC if I have saved my game without it enabled?

Oh you. Make millions of dollars annually and that's the best your programmers can come up with after all this time.

I called EA games immediately on Friday upon realizing that the new game I purchased and had only had 10 hours of gametime was telling me that I did not own my content. The EA rep was somewaht helpful and did explain that it was a known issue. He was also very quick at offering me a $20 credit for the EA store website. I figure that if we want these issues to be PERMANENTLY, PROPERLY resolved then more of us need to do this and hit them where it hurts...their profit margin...I was never really happy with Bioware's initial decision to join forces with the Behemoth known as EA in the first place...

Ah... Thank you!  That did it.  NOW I know what this reminds me of... the epsiode of the Simpson's when the power plant workers go on strike...

EDIT:  Better...

This game's just become the Civil Servant of gaming.

You can't get your money back. You can't make it work. Nobody will do anything about it unless it's an election year.(Election=New Release)

I'm sorry, but 5+ days of downtime definitely constitutes some form of reward for our patience. The lack of customer service is shocking. I understand that this is now a lower priority game, but people are still buying it so tech support should still be readily available. This is the second BiowarEA game that I have had constant issues with and it makes me wonder whether or not I should keep giving these idiots my money. There are too many other well made games out, & from better companies to keep fooling with this one.

At this rate, it would be much quicker for Bioware to write a patch that removes all the DRM from the game.

Just bought ultimate 3 days ago, game came with no cd key so i had to get one from support, great thing for a brand friggin new game, so i just installed it about 10 minutes ago, came on to bioware to do my dlc and finished that...only thing is its unauthorized, so i guess it still hasnt been fixed yet, hope this doesnt effect my being able to have the dlc, since the code says its 1 time only.

PS: dunno who did the packaging, bioware or ea, but selling a brand new unopened game with no cd key is like a new low for any game company, and you guys have no idea how royally pissed off i was, words cant even begin to describe it, i scoured every loose paper in the case, and then flipped thru the manual page for page....several times, i looked thru it so many times i memorized the damn thing, and i went to ts chat to get the issue resolved fast, and guess what, the guy didnt even give me 2 minutes to type in my problem, so i went from pissed to rampage in 0.2 seconds, i really considered going back to gamestop and getting my 40 bucks back, and it had only been day 1, and day 3 that option is still on the table.

Well, in a way, I guess I am glad I am not the only person to run into this problem.  Though for some reason "logging out" before I try to load my saved game seems to allow me to at least continue.

Oh, but somebody might get the game for FREE!!! Can't have that!

No, better to treat everybody who paid money for the game as the hardened pirates they all probably are...

I agree partly. But I believe that generally Bioware games are the best games out there. However it is certainly disappointing the way they've handled this. But I've posted a better and more elaborate rant elsewhere in this Thread. However the point is that I really was expecting a bit more respect for paying customers from my favorite company Bioware, and now by extension by E.A. (which is one of the top gaming companies out there), Instead we've gotten two official posts basically stating the same thing, only after a few of the community members have used their valuable time voicing outloud, really outloud.

I was playing this game despite my monthly paid fee to World of Warcraft AND Rift ... guess what games I'm gonna go play now? If EA/BioWare can't be trusted to keep a single player game running, then there's no way in hell that they're going to be able to support an MMO successfully. Blizzard is a very big kid on that block, and while they're not exactly the kings of customer support themselves, they do offer compensation of some kind when a problem on their end causes paying customers lost game time. I never thought I'd be lauding Blizz--they definitely are obnoxious in their own special way, but it's a lot better than what I've seen from Bioware/EA so far.

I was totally enjoying my brazen flirtation with every character I came across in DA:O too. :(

Please... I've spent the last (I don't know how many) hours, trying to get this game to work...
My so called DLC's are "unauthorized" when I am checking ingame and thus can't play.
I have just recently bought the "Ultimate Edition" of this game and been trying a lot of stuff from all of;
http://social.biowar...8/index/5151520
http://social.biowar.../index/759141/1
http://social.biowar.../58/index/81613

Nothing has been working... I tried to press "buy" on one of the DLC's ingame and it said that the servers were temporarily down...

I just simply wonder Are the servers down?!?! (Can I stop troubleshooting and instead wait for the servers to get up/call and complain that the servers are down??)
