i found this interesting post on another forum, i yhink it belong here

"I am one of the unlucky people with a new copy of DAO, and I'm completely locked of out authorizing my DLC content.

More importantly, how can I have any confidence that the DRM wont breakl my game in the future? 1 year from now? 5 years? I still play rpg games made in 2001. Will that be possible in a drm laden world of failed game companies in 2021? Will bioware even be around 5 years from now? Not at this rate of failure and decline. Especially not if DA 2 is any indicator of the direction in quality control and depth story telling and gameplay. This DRM display of instability may be the first real nail in their coffin though."

I wish I could tell this person, their game will break very often, and it won't take 5 years.  The DRM has screwed mine up many times over now, and this past time, before I found out it was an issue aside from the typical one, I got so pissed I uninstalled and removed my saves.  This crap happens way too often, even when the servers are up.

Please... I've spent the last (I don't know how many) hours, trying to get this game to work...
My so called DLC's are "unauthorized" when I am checking ingame and thus can't play.
I have just recently bought the "Ultimate Edition" of this game and been trying a lot of stuff from all of;
http://social.biowar...8/index/5151520
http://social.biowar.../index/759141/1
http://social.biowar.../58/index/81613

Nothing has been working... I tried to press "buy" on one of the DLC's ingame and it said that the servers were temporarily down...

I just simply wonder Are the servers down?!?! (Can I stop troubleshooting and instead wait for the servers to get up/call and complain that the servers are down??)

Long story short, yes. The problem is their end, not yours. It should be fixed 'soon', though BioWarEA's definition of soon seems to be based on a geological time scale. Expect to be able to play sometime in the next few thousand years.

First of all Wuthow, welcome to the "ordeal". Please take a bit of time to read a little through this thread. As of now there is no local side fix to this, unless you have previously gotten your DLC authorized, and then maybe you could manage to load them correctly while logged off. Otherwise you will have to wait this one out.

Again, do read a little through the thread, and if you have time do check the links within my signature.

I find it very funny that you can still BUY the DLC... and download it...

Just can't do a damn thing with it.

Here's a little PR tip. Until the servers are fixed, STOP SELLING THE DLC!

Yes, the servers are down.  All of the availble DLC comes with the Ultimate Edition.  You will not be able to activate this "extra content", however, until this server issue is resolved.  Sorry.

Tut tut. How are they supposed to make money that way? If they keep quiet about it, people won't know it's broken until BioWarEA already has their money! It's a lovely business strategy ... if a bit (or a lot) shortsighted.

Oh for god's sake.

I'm going interstate for a week and will not have access to a pc till i get back. If it's not fixed by then in the future I will turkey slap ANYBODY who tries to defend Bioware.

As it is right now i'd just laugh in their face, in a week i'll bring the pain!

Well, maybe they will finally address the memory leak or 100% cpu usage or whatever problem that causes the game to load so slowly after some time playing causing you to have to exit and reload to get manageable load times back. This problem has only been going on since release too so.....

Posted this to reddit.com.  Dunno if it's already been posted there, but if enough notice is taken there, it could help get a little more info out to people.  It's really quite ridiculous that this still hasn't been fixed, and they barely even have an idea of what is wrong.

I keep on asking myself.....why couldn't an email or even a PM have been sent round to registered users warning them. Telling ppl to stay logged out if they were lucky enough to be logged out and to stop paying customers from wasting hours trying to fix a server side problem. I only logged on today on a whim, I was perfectly happy playing logged out. I then spent hours trying to fix a problem EA knew about but didn't think that refusing to provide content paid for was worth raising a warning flag over. This happens on my first run through just before the Landsmeet. Talk about ruining the dramatic flow :-(

I'm sorry, but 5+ days of downtime definitely constitutes some form of reward for our patience. The lack of customer service is shocking. I understand that this is now a lower priority game, but people are still buying it so tech support should still be readily available. This is the second BiowarEA game that I have had constant issues with and it makes me wonder whether or not I should keep giving these idiots my money. There are too many other well made games out, & from better companies to keep fooling with this one.

I agree partly. But I believe that generally Bioware games are the best games out there. However it is certainly disappointing the way they've handled this. But I've posted a better and more elaborate rant elsewhere in this Thread. However the point is that I really was expecting a bit more respect for paying customers from my favorite company Bioware, and now by extension by E.A. (which is one of the top gaming companies out there), Instead we've gotten two official posts basically stating the same thing, only after a few of the community members have used their valuable time voicing outloud, really outloud.

EA is not a gaming company in that they make their own games or know how they work. They are a brand. They basically buy up, or fund smaller companies so that they can slap their neat little logo all over the package and sell it as their own creative work. They don't care about their paying customers at all. They have their hands in so many different honey jars that they make their money regardless. Bioware WAS a great company and one of my favorites too, until EA came along. Everything has been downhill since. Anyway, I thought I'd clarify that bit for you, RedundantCookie.

I've been a long time Bioware / Black Isle customer and fan. No more; you are not getting my money if you're going to randomly take away what I've purchased and require an internet connection to your servers all the time.

You didn't need DRM to get me to purchase BGII, Icewind Dale, SoA, Icewind Dale II, DaO, or DAII, but you've certainly driven me away as a customer with it.

I think, from here on out, I'm gonna wait until Bioware games show up on GOG before buying them. I haven't bought DA2, and I won't until it's DRM free...

(Well, that and I'm sick and tired of Squinty McBadass characters forced on me...)

I will say that, so far at least, it appears DA2's DLC is handled differently.  First, it doesn't use the clunky in-game installer... its more like Mass Effect 2, where you download self-installing files.  I don't know if the DRM is handled differently, but I never got the authentication lag in DA2 that I've experienced in DAO.

Which means Bioware/EA made a conscious effort to change DLC implimentation for DA2.  So doesn't that mean, to some extent, that they already recognize the flaws in the orginal game?  Frustrating.

Dear BioWare,

Here is your fix: patch out the internet connection requirement for your games.

Have a nice day.

I would love that.  I've had so much trouble with this game in the month that I've had it.  I love the game, just wish it was playable more often.  :\\

I play Aion most of the time. (Yes I know not North America's favorite mmo) They are heckled for their 'lack' of customer service but I assure you the issues seen here would never find themselves to Aion, and if they did they would be resolved within an hour or so (even on a weekend)

I have been really excited to play Dragon Age and bought it last night in anticipation of my day off to play it. Looks like I wont be playing it anytime soon...

They can get this patch out faster than however long it will take them to fix the servers
