Well... Somehow I'm not at all surprised that in the 7 hours I worked, this went nowhere.

Yup.

Once you can authenticate your DLC it will be just like before ... until the servers go down again or Bioware patches the game to not require re-authentication.

You can protect yourself in the future by keeping a copy of your Profile.dap file (once everything is authenticated). If the servers DO go down again, you can log out and use this backup Profile and everything will continue to be authorized.

If only I had known this earlier... Fortunately my external hard drive just so happened to have a working backup profile stored on it :)

My favorite thing is the fact they are still advertising the DLC/Letting you buy Bio-points, but playing the content? That's a far-fetched story.

Thank goodness. I've been trying for two days to fix the dreaded "Unauthorized Content" error, all the while thinking it was on my end. Now we just have to hope that they can fix it.

Welcome to the "ordeal", if you review quickly over the thread, you'll realize, this is...

... a sad place, and it has been sad for the past 100 hours.

That quick feedback by that moderator over "comsmetic GUI suggestions" from first time posters in that thread makes me all the more frustrated.

Sweet, I reinstalled Dragon Age last night to finish up the game after not playing for a few months and stayed up till like 3AM trying to mess around with my router thinking the problem was on my end. Pathetic as it sounds, I came pretty close to reinstalling windows. I guess I'll play through a few more hours with a couple naked party members and no Shale...

The one thing this and other threads makes very apparent, the PC customer base is still a very significant demographic for Dragon Age and other Bioware games. Compare the number of posts in the PC Technical Support forum to any of the others (360, PS3, Mac).

Sure, it's likely that fewer Xbox, PS3, and Mac users have run into this issue, but I still think it's significant.

I think it is more to do with the fact that us console owners do not have to put up with this bull****.  EA do not control DLC content on either the 360 or PS3.  I managed to install all my PS3 UE content a week ago using the package installer in my custom firmware and it all works perfectly, without ever contacting EA servers or PSN.

I did have a weird "some of your download content has been corrupted" message when I started playing the ME2 Arrival DLC on my 360 though, that came from the cerberus network, hmmm.

If this persists for too much longer then they should do something along the lines of an apology that has some substance to it as an outage this long is just down right ridiculous. Makes me wonder if the server got fried or something, and where was their back up?

it is definitly ridiculous that they have no backup server for their products where customers need to login on...
they probably have one for their store selling system.

Luke was the one I originally contacted on Friday.  He only is working on DA2, so he sent me to others, who, I assume, eventually found Rob.  Luke's one of the good guys for sure.

I can't log in on my Origins character - DA2 are fine. Same thing - I'm unauthorized, but am.

Drasted! By Andraste's monthly period, why did they send us Rob? Why Rob!?

I'm wondering if they are doing overtime work on this. I strongly lean on the "NO" side though. a critical error unfixed for what, 5 days and no root cause identification (aside from that DRM is complete and epic failure), and no timeline. omg

I will revisit my dream, so that we do not lose hope. So that we can grab onto that very first time of that dream, and hold it close to our bosom; for some day, some distant "Someday", the first part does in fact, become a reality.

From a much earlier post:

*Snip*

I dreamed everything was fixed. In my dream I opened the door and there were most of you, Harpy, Fuzzy, Raen... cheering and smiling, and you said: "We did it Cookie, we did it!". Some of the EA Reps came to the party too, we all joined Ferelden and cheered as Duncan was expecting us and told us: "We defeated them at Ostagar, we won, Warden, we won!"

We celebrated with some Orlesian pizza, dwarven ale (tasted horrible), and we danced! Then, in the dream, Duncan morphed into a Darkspawn, and it all turned into a Nightmare, the Darkspawn pointed at the screen where a big font text reading, "You are Unauthorized" showed up, and he started laughing. I gasped, in fear, and when I turned to look at the group, you were all Darkspawn as well! - It was horrible, HORRIBLE I tell you.

Nahh... I think someone in another division of EA changed something or updated something and unwittingly smacked down Bioware's DRM scheme.  Frankly, I don't think they ever intended for the DLC to check for authorization every time... I think that's how it was coded and they lazily never delt with it properly.  Except now it's come ot bite all of us in the behind.

After all, the DLC authorization error seems to be a side effect of the fact that the game checks with the server EVERY time you log in... not just once, as it should be. It is likely, in that case, that someone elsewhere in EA made a change... a very subtle one... that unwittingly derailed the whole thing.

That's not by way of an excuse, however.  DLC authorization has long been a very finciky, problematic thing with DAO.  And Bioware/EA has to know this... look how they've changed DLC installtion for DA2 (going to a Mass Effect style system).

Of course not.  My guess is they are deciding whether to abandon the title altogether.

Oh, the prompt and diligent feedback. Luke, we definitely need someone like you at  http://social.biowar...6701/45#7056620 .

Thank you.

*EDIT*

This was the dream I had two days ago, back when the community (me included) still had some sanity left within them. Ah, forty-eight hours ago - seems like a life time ago.

This is what I posted over at Luke's thread, very well aware that I was posting out of place, in a thread where it doesn't belong. But I am out of my wits!

Bioware has really dropped the ball on this. As a network engineer, I can't imagine how a system this pivotal could break without so much as a root cause being discovered after 72 hours.

I don't want to be "that guy," but Bioware needs to seriously reexamine their disaster recovery procedures - and the folks that designed them.

So ... I haven't seen this simple solution out there that worked for me.

Shut off "automatically log in" ....

Quit out of DA:O

Start it back up ...

And voila .. play "offline" ... and seems to work fine. I was able to Resume my game .. my DLC seems intact (Blood Dragon Armor still in my inventory) ..

besides achievements .. there really is no reason to log in .. why don't they simply state this?

Sooo... Ya know how the DLC's aren't available in certain languages? I wonder if some guy in the Czech Republic spent the past 2 years learning his english, specially ordered the game, downloaded it, just to be ruined by a 'DRM' problem.... Poor Imaginary Czech people....

It took NASA engineers less time to figure out how to get the Apollo 13 mission back safely from the moon using 1970 technology than it is taking Bioware engineers to figure out how to find the reset button on a login server.
