@Rob Bartel
To avoid future complications, just release a small patch and remove the need for authentication. Your game is cracked so anyone who don't want to spend money on it will not do it anyway.

I would say authentication does not need to be removed, but rather fixed.  I personally have no issue if it has to be authenticated ONCE.  But every time I log in?

I'm not exactly sure what language the authorization procedure is currently written in but if it is java here is a simple pseudocode solution:

  A simple boolean variable to keep track of if it authorized  (will call it authorized)
 authorized will originally be set to false.
 if(authorized==false)
{
  use current authorization method
   set authorized to true
  run game
   }
else
{
  run game
}

This could have helped the people who already had their copy authorized before the unidentified server error.  As for people like me who are installing it on another computer or for the first time I can't think of how to prevent the problem without more knowledge of how the authorization program works.

At the very least, he deserves to be a moderator here on the forums.

Where can you do this? In what file?

I doubt it's that simple. They try everything they can to make DRM uncrackable, which means they can't use this simple code. I guess, every time you log in to server you send your public key to server, it signs it and than returns back (standard security procedure). If that's true, than the game can't be simply patched because every game has only half of the key. Furthermore, they WON'T remove DRM (at least now), because it will make them lose their face.
I guess, EA will better loses half of the user base than openly accept that its DRM system is wrong. That's just the way how corporations work.

i don't think we would have access to such a file plus the requirements for some of it (such as the boolean variable) don't exist in the current files. that was just my suggestion to a way they could alter the coding a bit to help reduce the number of people who would have the unauthorized issue.

I understand why they wanted the dlc to be authorized and I am fine with it staying, i just believe it needs to be fixed.

Yeah, but they already ditched it for a new system, and we have reason to believe they will eventually patch it to just eliminate the key entirely, so I don't think it'll be a problem for too much longer.

SO my latest response from tech support was some idiotic suggestion to run the DA diagnostic to make sure my key was installed because that was likely the problem. I am STUNNED.

I have never in my life run across such a group of morons. We are being lied to. Not only do they not know what is going on, they are doing nothing and don't give a damn. Flood every single msg board you can.

as for people making the argument for never buying another EA or Bioware game, I wish you the best of luck. EA is one of the larger companies and is constantly expanding. It has been part of games that make it into the top 10 of each genre. Bioware consistently makes good games. DRM is still a relatively new thing that a lot of companies are experimenting with.

oh my flying Fuc...ing god.... they had this bug since friday... 2 hours ago the official word came out (finnally i might add) that they are working on it but are still unsure whats wrong... and u ask when it will be fixed.... sigh!

secondly im just as frustraited as u lot and do i belive that the official word should have been out 5 min after the issue started well YES!... but geez guys its human beings who are working on the problem... cut them some slag...

and when ppl complain about the thing that the DLC has to be autherized when u want to use it... its 100% connected to moronic pirates who think that evry thing is free... so on this point blame the right ppl... bioware / ea is just trying to protect there property...

Obviously, but any company has to realize that their stuff WILL be pirated. You have to balance making it a pain to do so, so most people don't do it, with possible problems to your paying customers. Otherwise, you get people who would have bought your future games, but now don't, or they just become pirates themselves. A three day shutdown, over the weekend, when a new version of your game was just released, is inexcusable. A one-time authorization is enough DRM: constant checking is a disaster waiting to happen.

That is true but I have avoided buying their games for some time now.  I just did not realize that Bioware had sold to EA.  This was my fault for not paying attention.  I've got zero problem avoiding EA games.  I had so much trouble with them a few years ago I swore off all their games.  But for this mistake, I've been completely successful.

Oh, I have an idea. Maybe they could like... Have the server return an error message about it being down so people don't have to waste time trying to reinstall their games and try looking for fixes.

I think Bioware games are the only EA games I have, so I don't see any problems. It tends to focus on the opposite of RPGs, like sports games.

Three days? The least you could have done is properly inform your Support about the problem; instead I wasted my time and then they suggested more ways I can waste my time. Companies should respect the time of their customers. This lack of support for a game currently selling is quite appaling. This is from Saturday night, almost two days after the start of the problem.

Image IPB Lisa: Hi, my name is Lisa. How may I help you?
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: Hello
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: Dragon age ultimate is not showing any dlc content
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: Are the servers down? I've already tried reinstalling
Image IPB Lisa: Which dlc ?
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: All of them read unauthorized
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: but show on my social.bioware page fine
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: and worked fine until friday
Image IPB Lisa: Please click on the following link

Image IPB http://support.ea.co...LC unauthorized

Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: Thanks, I have already tried that fix, as well as Image IPB http://support.ea.co...detail/a_id/218 which simply disables the dlc content
Image IPB Lisa: Please uninstall the game and reinstall ,
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin:
Are the authentication servers down? I have already spent a
considerable amount of time trying to fix this, including reinstalling,
messing with services, etc. I'm looking for confirmation that the
authentication servers are up and running.
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: Because if they are down, no matter what I do won't work obviously :)
Image IPB Lisa: It might be you are facing some temporally issue.Please try after some time.
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: It's been two days! I'd hope that it is not a temporary issue that lasted two days.
Image IPB Lisa: Due
to the nature of the issue, I’ll need to forward the matter for further
review.  One of our Senior Support staff members will review the matter
and get back to you, via e-mail, within 24-48 hours.  Meanwhile, we
thank you for your continued patience.
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: Can you please tell me if the servers are up and working, or down?
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: 48 HOURS?!? To verify if servers are up or not?
Image IPB Lisa: This is know issue our technical team is working on it.I will resolve as soon as possible.
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: Um... if there is a known issue why did you ask me to reinstall?
Image IPB Lisa: Because some times that works.
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: Please have someone senior contact me as you previously mentioned, thank you.
Image IPB Lisa: OK
Image IPB Lisa: p
Image IPB Lisa: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Image IPB Jeffrey Martin: no, thank you

As
a support professional, I can firmly state this is very poor technical
support, not the tech's fault entirely, the company has most of the
blame.

When was this session? This issue should be well known by at least that department. Considering some of us have been in contact with them about this matter since Friday night. My last contact with a EA Support rep was yesterday morning, and he was aware of the situation, even compensated me with a coupon.

It has been obvious for a while that it's not local. It is a server-side issue. Yesterday a few of us spent quite some time back and forth trying to inform about it in the threads that opened about it...

I am also concerned about buying EA games in the future. I can always Pirate or wait for Steam to have an unbelievable sale.

Mistakes happen. Servers and programs can go awry. However there is absolutely no excuse in the world for a game company, especially one as large and with deep pockets as EA, for them to NOT have someone on the ball for one of their now more popular franchises.

Doesn't matter how good the game is, if you can't play it why would you try another game from the company?

If they want people to respect them then they need to show some respect to the buying public as well.
