Still having the authorization issues. I purchased this PoS game because i enjoyed the 2nd one so much I wanted to try the first as well. I cant even play it and don't think i ever will even try to again. I'm just uninstalling this garbage and going to try my best to forget about ever wasting 40 bucks on it
I hope you will reconsider in time. If you liked DA2 you may well find that Origins is a far superior product. More choices, the ability to customize your companions gear, and an epic story.
Absolutely - that's why I'm not handling being unable to play the Original game too well. DA2 was a bit lacking in substance for me. It was like expecting steak and getting Quorn!

One strange thing remains for me: My achievement count is still wrong by 5. According to my BSN profile, I have 48 achievements. However, when viewed in-game, it says I have 43 out of 109. I started a thread about this several days ago, but it got quickly buried by all the DLC unauthorized threads. I'm not sure if this server outage contributed to the inaccuracy or not, but it did happen right around Friday. That's when I noticed the inaccuracy.
The server and local copy should sync up once you're logged in. It isn't necessarily immediate. But with this particular outage there is a possibility that some achievements were lost. The achievements should be located in the Profile.dap file in /My Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/Settings. If at some point you reinstalled, or manually replaced those files over the last few days you may have lost some.
Still, the server version should be the master copy.

Tell me a bit more about the issue you're having. I'm no expert but I might have a clue. Also mention anything you've tried to fix it so I don't waste any of your time

If you're looking for the detailed Bioware explanation read the post by Fernando Melo on page 52.
I just read that post. Funny thing about it is that they still don't say what the problem even was or what caused it. Just that it's been "fixed."

Well, if I did lose a few I'm not too terribly upset by it. Mostly just curious where the inaccuracy came from, and this recent server outage seems the most likely culprit. But honestly, right now I'm just thrilled that I can finally play the DLC that I paid good money for.

I'm going to restate my much earlier post in the hope that with added media attention comes someone reading the forums.
Saturday night I was told by a service rep that it was a known issue, after she tried to send me down reinstalling and several other time-wasting paths. Either the Rep was lying or EA was aware of this Saturday night.
Between the tech support trying to send me on disrespectful wild goose chase wastes of time, the length of the downtime, and the lack of adequate communication from EA/Bioware; I'm really annoyed. Probably a good object lesson on how NOT to handle an issue correctly from a corporate perspective.
Thank you for explaining the series of events, but at the end of the day, we users do not care.
What we care about was a problem happened on Friday, support was non-existent until late Monday, and it wasn't fixed for a total of about 5 days. Meanwhile, the non-functioning product was continuing to be sold, leading to every purchaser of the ultimate edition being unable to authorize content they paid for. Time zone issues, separate departments, all that is very interesting from a "How the sausage is made perspective" but we don't actually care about your issues. the company should design a better internal system if it takes that long to fix a problem like this.
How's this for some reasonable support rules for products.
1) If it isn't working for more then a few hours, or at least a day, stop selling it.
2) Keep your support staff informed.
3) Be respectful of your customer's time
4) Monitor the official communication channels and be responsive.
5) When you design a program to dial in to a server, provide a mechanism to display a message to users in the event of a problem so they know what is wrong. Again, respect customer's time.
6) Down time always equals urgent. Weekends and nights are not time off for a game, if you are selling a game add resources if necessary.
7) Be honest and don't lie.
People are far more likely to accept a "we have a problem, but don't have an ETA on when it is fixed" when you start out with it. Telling them 24-48 hours every time is not helping. You HAD a lot of trust in your company, not the problem squandered it, but the way you handled it.
8) If you lie, lie in a way you can't be easily caught. Tell as some new guy poured coffee into the server and in a chain reaction they all went down. Tell us it takes that long to get the servers up again because you are doublechecking everything so noone has a problem when the servers are up. Telling us you realized this was a problem on sunday while support has been telling people it's a known problem since friday? Seriously?

yeah its showing that its there and its showing its installed on my pc. there is no logical reason why its saying my account doesnt own the copy. i just want to know if this will resolve itself in time where i will just wait or if i need to do anything.
When you're in the game check to make sure the Dragon Age Updater service is running. If it is not you may have to start it manually. There should be instructions on how to do so in these forums.
When you go to the Downloadable Content page from inside the game check your Bioware Points balance. If it is zero or another number then you are correctly connected to the authorization server. If it only shows -- then you are not.

I'm not particularly pleased. It means I need an active internet connection to play, and will be vulnerable to future outages.

Difficult to tell at this point. Have you tried logging out? If not, do that and check in-game under the "downloadable content" tag if it still shows "unauthorized". If it doesn't show "unauthorized" any more, keep logged out and start playing. Should work now.MissEskimo wrote...

Ahh, anyoen tried playing the game logged out?
There is no problem playing the game logged out, provided your DLC was authorized prior to doing so. Being logged in allows your game progress and achievements to be uploaded to the server. Due to a bad design decision it also periodically checks to see if your DLC is authorized. This was the root cause of all the problems these past four days.
Provided you have all your DLC listed ad Enabled and NOT listed as unauthorized you should be able to play offline with no issues. If you want to sync your progress and achievement status with the Social site you should just need to log in periodically.
It is a good idea to keep a backup of your authorization files in case something goes wrong with the auth server again. These files are located in My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\Settings and include Profile.dap Addins.xml Manifest.xml and Offers.xml. Of these Profile.dap is the most important.

I logged in to test if everything worked and it did and then logged out and everything became unathourtized again so in my case your wrong.

I believe this is a known issue. I seem to recall reading something about always having to log in to reathorize.
Check out RaenImrahl's Solutions Roundup post. http://social.biowar...8/index/6265850
Most issues of this type are somehow related to the DAUpdater service either not starting correctly, or missing files.
Raen should be around later today and may have some better advice.
