Hey people - for those who are still having problems with their dlc not getting authorised in-game, read on for a possible fix ....

1. Go into your start menu and click on "run..." (or alternatively, hold down the windows button then press 'r')
2. Now type in "services.msc" into the box
3. Scroll down the list of services, until you find "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater"
4. Right-click on it and select "Start"
5. Now load up DA:O
6. Log in
7. Go to your "Downloadable Content" menu and see if your dlc has been enabled/is downloading.

PS Even though the latest DA:O patch was supposed to fix the issue that caused the Content Updater not to boot up before the actual game does (and therefore not verifying your game contents in time with the game's servers), I still had to go through with this manual boot-up procedure in order to get my Stone Prisoner dlc to download in-game (as pre-order bonus content, I couldn't download it manually).

Good luck all :)

I can't find Dragon Age on the "services.msc". Is there any other way to find this updater-file?

Control Panel\\All Control Panel Items\\Administrative Tools\\Services. Look for Dragon Age Origins - Content Updater. If you can't find that then go to C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age ultimate edition\\redist and run DAUServiceSetup_Steam and DAOU_UpdateAddinsXML_Steam

*****IMPORTANT READ IF YOU STILL HAVE THE ISSUE BUT HAVE A HARD TIME READING BACK THROUGH THE THREAD DUE UNDIAGNOSED A.D.D***** (J/K ^.^)

If you can't find it is probably because it's not installed, read further for the instructions on how to download it, run it and finally have it run.

Please read back a bit on the thread; I posted the answer to this several times. Here it goes again:

Jason Leong wrote...

We have a preview application that contains a number of the DA Updater fixes for the upcoming PC Patch.<br />
You can try it out and see if it helps solve your problems in the meanwhile.
If you do, please let me know if it helps.
http://supportfiles....nostic_beta.exe (This file should install the daupdater)

Also, you'll want to confirm your service starts when you boot the game. A few users have reported they need to manually start their service for some reason.
1. In Windows, Press start
2. Run "services.msc"
3. Find and start "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater"
4. Restart game

Yay! I'm now back to my DLC only working if I'm logged in... ~sighs~ I can log in and the content will authorize...then log out and play and it's there. If I exit the game, and then go back in, my content is unauthorized again and I have to log back in to authorize it. Changing the 0 to a 1 in that file doesn't work...it enables it, but doesn't give me access to items/zones. That little "cheat" just does not work.

In fact, my machine lags on restart of the game while it goes through the files and de-authorizes...then when I log back in, it lags as it resets the files to authorized.

And yes, the content updater is listed as running and set to automatice in my services...

bleh ~plops down on chair in frustration~

I bought the ultimate edition of this game on direct2drive the day the server crashed thinking I would play it all spring break. I have spent HOURS trying to get this fixed, sifting through numerous guides. I have even been going through the command prompt and registry. (No it still doesnt work, and I'm not going to go through and retry everything I did before now the servers are "fixed")

I actually pay for the DLC and the only option now I see is cracking something I obtained legally, or deleting the game and not playing in general. After this I am unsure if I will buy DA2 or Mass Effect (1&2) now. I was planning on buying the games and playing them while I wait for swtor to come out. All I can say is I hope Bioware does not plan on being this horrible with their communication and bug fixing in swtor as I have experienced here or they are going to be hurting.

Whos idea was it to make you authenticate your DLC everytime you log in?? What if I dont have a fricken internet connection?

Hannibal AND EA's fixes aren't working... as long as I stay logged in, the content stays available. if I log out, it stays available. If I then close the game and restart, it becomes unavailable again and I have to log in to reauthorize. If I've set the code to 0 instead of leaving it at 1, it LOOKS like it worked, but it didn't...no content, AND logging in won't fix it. I have to reset them to 1's in order to reauthorize again.

Infinitely reproducaeable... I've been working on getting this to work for 2 hours now...  I want to review, so anyone who wants to try to help understands completely what I'm saying so I don't waste their time, or mine.

Without Hannibal's/EA's fix

1) Launch game
2) log in - content authorizes
3) log out - stays authorized (can play all day this way and it's all there)
4) exit game
5) relaunch game
6) content is de-authorized and warns when starting a new game that I must be logged in to get premium content

With Hannibal's/EA's fix:

1) Launch game
2) content shows authorized, but won't enable items/zones
3) log in
4) content shows authorized but STILL is not enabled for zones/items in game

The updater IS running, so it's not that. Content DOES exist on my machine. Computer visibly stutters as it authorizes/de-authorizes when I come in the game or log in to get it to authorize, then visibly lags to deauthorize when I come in the game logged out.

If there is an ordered step to make this work, I'm begging someone to give it to me in a step by step process. I tried looking at the various ones linked in people's sigs and posts and this old lady's brain can't seem to process it right, because none of them are working for me.

Anyone have a pirated version? Because EA and Bioware are making me feel like a sucker for actually patronizing their service.

I don't like the idea pirates are enjoying the game and I can't.

But EA didn't even learn from Spore. They didn't learn.

I've never heard such a bunch of ridiculous excuses as these ones posted here :

http://www.eurogamer...-server-failure

"IT WASN'T OUR FAULT THAT OUR DRM ON OUR 18 MONTH OLD GAME MADE IT UNABLE TO BE PLAYED FOR FOUR DAYS!"

Unbelievable. This is what you DARE call customer support?

I apologize if this fix has been posted already. However, I swallowed my pride last night and listened to the EA Rep, as well as listening to my gut.

1) I uninstalled the game manually and deleted the registry keys. Instructions are here
2) I reinstalled the game using setup.exe that came with my Amazon purchase.
3) I did not install patch 1.04. If you purchased the Ultimate Edition from Amazon, 1.04 is included in the pack. If you do reinstall it, you will encounter an error screen that will tell you to reinstall, and you'll have to start all over again.
4) I went to bed. The DA Content Update Manager did not appear until after I turned my computer back on. That was the one thing I was missing for the fix.

This won't work for everyone, but again, I was convinced that this wouldn't work that I didn't even want to try

Remember DO NOT INSTALL PATCH 1.04 MANUALLY WITHOUT CHECKING YOUR VERSION. You can do this by starting your game and clicking on "Documentation" instead of "Play" from the launch screen and then opening "PatchNotes." It will tell you which match you have installed. If it's 1.04, no need to update.

I also stress that you have to uninstall manually, not just use the uninstall tool. This will not get rid of the registry keys. Also, all my mods were still there when I reinstalled, so no worries about redownloading all your nifty mods, both dazip files and ones that were copypastaed into the "override" folder.

I am so glad this nightmare is over on my end.

well looks like they did not fully fix it. You have to log in, if you want to use your dlc after a restart, which means this issue can happen anytime soon.

All editing that file (changing 1 to 0) does is tell the game that you do not actually have that DLC. It's a soft disable allowing you to load a save game but not enabling any DLC.

It sounds like you need better help than we players are able to give. I recommend going to the EA Support site and either talking to or live chatting with a rep. To save yourself some heartache, the first thing you should do is ask to speak to a Tier 2 or 3 rep. This usually gets you the most clueful person available directly.

I'm waiting for EA to issue a patch to remove all DRM like they did with Spore and Ubisoft did with Assassin's Creed.

It doesn't work. It'll never work.

All you do is tell people maybe they shouldn't buy your products and pirate them instead, since a pirated version is the only one you can actually COUNT on.

I'll rename the thread as the 'fixed' message is misleading - we fixed the server side issue that happened over the weekend.  There is still the previous unauthorized DLC issue in DAO that can occur in certain cases - almost always related to the updater service (either not installed correctly, or not starting with DAO).

Please see the bottom of my previous post for links to detailed steps for how to identify the exact issue you are having, and solutions including a tool we've provided to help fix this.   http://social.biowar...6701/52#7058914

Below is a quick summary of some of the more common fixes (works for majority of players that have reported this issue):
- Try the tool in the threads linked to above, then restart the computer, and play/login
- Wait until all DLCs are authorized, you should now be able to play online or offline

If that does not resolve it,
- ensure the service is running while DAO is running, AND that the service path is correctly pointing to this game install location (particularly if you re-installed DAO but not into the same location as before, sometimes windows will keep the service pointed at the previous install location)
- you can find detailed steps for how to check for these, and manually fix them in the threads linked to above (the tool I mentioned should resolve this, so try that first if you have not already done so)

If that does not resolve it (or if you are having to re-login/re-auth every time but the service is running and pointed at the right install path),
- make a copy of your profile.dap file (in mydocs/bioware/dragon age/settings)
- delete the original file
- login to DAO, it will force a re-auth of all content but now into a clean profile file which should help
- Wait until all DLCs are authorized, you should now be able to play online or offline (make a copy of the profile.dap file)

If that does not resolve it, double check that your game cd key is also correctly set in the registry and then try the profile.dap delete step again
- Run the game launcher app (by default this shows up before you get to the game)
- Select the Configure option
- In the config tool, select 'Game'.  On this window, ensure that the cd key is listed under 'product keys'.
- If it is blank, you can find instructions on the threads linked above to manually correct this, or you will need to re-install if you are not comfortable editing the registry yourself
- try the profile.dap delete step

If after trying out the tool and the solutions above and on those linked threads, you are still experiencing issues with unauthorized content, please post on those linked threads.

I did a digital download from EA. It damned well better work - and it doesn't. And the Ultimate Edition is a 27GB download. You understand me? 27GB download. That's 8 hours with a good connection here.

Fernando,

Will YOU be helping people in those threads?  I won't.

Those threads are hundreds of pages long and woefully outdated.  Victor Watcher's "READ FIRST" post hasn't been updated in a year, even though it promises to "have instructions soon for gathering and delivering system technical information".  And "help.dragonage.com" now goes to a tech support page for DA2, not this game.  http://social.biowar...8/index/2152953

If people are looking for troubleshooting help, they need to provide techinical information (hardware specs, OS version, what version of the game they have - disc or digital/Steam, original or UE, and if original, what patch level).  A proper "READ FIRST" post should also include how novice users should find all that info on their machines.

In my opinion, for what it's worth, people should make a NEW post describing their problems in detail, with the above mentioned information.  It makes it much easier for a volunteer to deal with it, without the risk of confusion with multiple problems being addressed on the same thread.  After letting this issue linger for more than a years and a half, it's time for Bioware to apply some common sense in addressing this, once and for all.

To start, a sensible guide is already posted in the DA2 PC Tech forum, authored by someone who has spent a heck of a lot of time troubleshooting here. http://social.biowar...0/index/6423406   Victor's READ FIRST instructions should be replaced with something like this.  I bet Gorath will even do it for you, if he's asked.

The DAO PC Tech forum has been neglected-- and I choose that word carefully-- neglected for far too long.  You and Rob are the first Bioware employees to post in this forum for many, many months.

DLC issues have been compounded by the five days of silence surrounding your recent server issues... people have cut and hacked files all to hell... and now they need help piecing things back together.

For my part, if people will post their issues, with the above suggested information in a new post, I will help them, or direct them to where they can find answers.  I won't be around too much for the next several days, as I have to travel on business.  But I will do what I can.

Bioware is a company replete with talented people who created a truly wonderful game in DA: Origins.   People here want to experience that in full and without distraction.  But they need sensible help.

dang, its only about 5 for me on my crappy connection. im downloading the game for the 5th time right now to try reinstalling it after teh last install somehow got currupted. when I checked my versoin it told me i only had 1.0 so i updated it to the newest version and it wouldnt let me even boot the game. now after all this my game still might now work on account of the DRM.

something must be done EA/Bioware...

Great advice as always, Raenl.

My only input would be to people suffering broken games beacuse of attempts to fix their copys is to back up your character and save files then go for a full re-install.

Not using any saves made over the past 5 days with those self-fix games would be advisable. It may be annoying, but in the long run it may be for the best. last thing you want for example is to get 3/4th's through the game and have it crash out on you every time at the same point.

As for me? Uninstalled. Permanently. Bioware games are just not worth the hastle anymore. <_<

What verison of the game do you have (original or UE) and where did you get it (disc, Steam, EADM, etc)?
