FYI... RCookie's repost of the updater service beta executable fix (above) and a registry key fix for some digitally downloaded copies (confirmed for those who bought the game through Impulse) have been added to the Solutions Round-up.  Other fixed may be available for there, for those who care to browse.

Aha! Fernando! I did all the steps...everything works...everything's in the right place...the path in the registry is correct, but the cd key is missing from my registry... it's the ONLY thing wrong... So THAT'S why it forces a reauth every time.

So...how do I get the key into the registry where it belongs...still having problems in the sea of links finding that answer...it's like every question except this particular fin thing, is being answered. lol

What verison of the game do you have (original or UE) and where did you get it (disc, Steam, EADM, etc)?

It's the UE pack as a single purchase through Impulse. Below this is the output the diagnostic tool gave me. (the updater service is stopped because I ran it while the game was not launched...on my system, it only runs when the game is running)

I even did a search for the code itself... nada...

In order for that logged out with DLC enabled to work, do I need to launch the game with Impulse? Is that what I'm missing?

I don't have any games from Impulse, so it's hard to advise... but I just linked this:

Thanks Raen - great feedback.  We are putting more eyes on those threads, but your point is valid - we should do a clean start for this.  Let me go over it with the community folks and our dev/QA guys to see what works best, and we'll get that going.

Thanks Merlin. It ALMOST helped. Here is how I resolved it on my particular setup with my particular install. The Impulse fix that link went to ONLY works for a Windows 7 x64 install... Apparently, the DA:O entry that link mentions doesn't exist on a Vista x64 install. Hence, it ALMOST works, but I wanted to give an exact, step-by-step for Vista x64 Impulse UE installs. I can't be the ONLY one! lol

Okay...for those with the cd key missing when checking the game config, I have a very specific fix...this is ONLY for:

Windows Vista x64 SP2
Impulse Digital UE purchase

1) Launch Impulse
2) Right-click the DA:O game
3) Select "View Registration"
4) click "Copy serial to clipboard"
5) Go to start menu and type "regedit" and hit return
6) navigate to (or search for): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Wow6432Node\\Electronic Arts\\Dragon Age\\ergc
7) In the right hand pane, double-click "(Default)" to open the entry field
8) Hit Shift + Insert (quick-paste the clipboard) then click "Okay"
9) Close registry
10) relaunch the game launcher and go into the Configuration to verify it shows your cd key in the "Game" section and references DA:O
11) Launch the game and log in
12) Verify the DLC is now authorized
13) Log out and recheck to make sure it is still authorized
14) Exit game completely, then relaunch
15) Make sure you are still logged out and check the DLS page again to make sure it is still authorized.
16) Congratulations...you should be set.

Thanks.

For grins n giggles, I added the DA:O entries into my registry...just to see what would happen. No change. It appears to be working perfectly now, logged out, even through a reboot.

btw, I fixed that HKEY line to match correctly. I still had the copy/paste from the old post on how to find it (that didn't find it lol).

Just a quick note from someone who spent a lot of time in Quality Assurance and Customer Service in the food industry over the last 20 years....and yes I dealt personally with the complainants.....

There is a little thing called the 1 and 9 rule.

For every 1 person who complains there are 9 WHO DO NOT.

The 1 who complains will probably buy your product again IF YOU DEAL WITH THE ISSUE QUICKLY AND COMPETENTLY.

The 9 who didn't complain - will probably NEVER buy your product EVER AGAIN.

Think about that... and this applies for both this server issue and the feotid dingo kidneys you released under the title of Dragon Age:2.

I for one will be extremely careful if I ever buy anything from Bioware again.

I'll rename the thread as the 'fixed' message is misleading - we fixed the server side issue that happened over the weekend.  There is still the previous unauthorized DLC issue in DAO that can occur in certain cases - almost always related to the updater service (either not installed correctly, or not starting with DAO).

Please see the bottom of my previous post for links to detailed steps for how to identify the exact issue you are having, and solutions including a tool we've provided to help fix this.   http://social.biowar...6701/52#7058914

Below is a quick summary of some of the more common fixes (works for majority of players that have reported this issue):
- Try the tool in the threads linked to above, then restart the computer, and play/login
- Wait until all DLCs are authorized, you should now be able to play online or offline

If that does not resolve it,
- ensure the service is running while DAO is running, AND that the service path is correctly pointing to this game install location (particularly if you re-installed DAO but not into the same location as before, sometimes windows will keep the service pointed at the previous install location)
- you can find detailed steps for how to check for these, and manually fix them in the threads linked to above (the tool I mentioned should resolve this, so try that first if you have not already done so)

If that does not resolve it (or if you are having to re-login/re-auth every time but the service is running and pointed at the right install path),
- make a copy of your profile.dap file (in mydocs/bioware/dragon age/settings)
- delete the original file
- login to DAO, it will force a re-auth of all content but now into a clean profile file which should help
- Wait until all DLCs are authorized, you should now be able to play online or offline (make a copy of the profile.dap file)

If that does not resolve it, double check that your game cd key is also correctly set in the registry and then try the profile.dap delete step again
- Run the game launcher app (by default this shows up before you get to the game)
- Select the Configure option
- In the config tool, select 'Game'.  On this window, ensure that the cd key is listed under 'product keys'.
- If it is blank, you can find instructions on the threads linked above to manually correct this, or you will need to re-install if you are not comfortable editing the registry yourself
- try the profile.dap delete step

If after trying out the tool and the solutions above and on those linked threads, you are still experiencing issues with unauthorized content, please post on those linked threads.

F.

I have checked and double checked.  The updater service is running and installed correctly.  I am at the point where i must login to authorize some of my dlc every single time.  If I do that it authorizes and plays fine, even if I log off after doing so, and remains fine until I have to stop and restart the game, then I must do it all over again.  It is always the same dlc.  I did NOT have this problem until this last big snafu, and I have been running this game since release.  There is something else causing dlc to become unauthorized when the game is exited fully.  I have done every fix known to man.  It never happened before like this.  It has to be something else with EA or Bioware authorization services.

Please continue to work on this issue, and don't leave us to fend for ourselves like we have for the past 18 months on this issue.  Patch out the authorization checks for verified members owned dlc.  It is easy enough to check who owns what as it keeps a permanent copy server side.  Do not leave us with this defective method.  Internet should not be needed for a single player game.  Ever.

Thoran,

Check your registry to make sure your CD Key is there for DragonAge (NOT the Dragon Age Origins entry...the Dragon Age entry)... if it's empty this will happen...at least, that's what happened to me.

Hi everyone,

My apologies once again for the delay in getting you information (and a solution) for this.

Why so long?

The short answer is that we were caught off-guard by this as a new issue for DAO players, believing initially that this was an existing issue that had a solution already available here on the tech forums.

blah blah blah

F.

A very lengthy excuse, but a poor one none the less.
If anyone at Bioware had bothered to launch the game, they would have seen the problem right away.

And I doubt its a coincidence that all owned content disappeared from EA download manager when DLC began authorizing correctly again.

Thank you Rob and Fernando. Though I doubt it will happen, may I suggest you ensure that at least one person is checking your tech support forums at ALL times? It can be multiple forums even; all you need is someone to look for stuff like Rahn's, uh Rean's, whatever, Merlin's topic that flat-out said "The server is down and everyone is stuck playing the waiting game". Waiting for customer service traffic to explode is bad because so very many people go out of their way to avoid them and come here, to the official Bioware tech support forums (even if it's not really run by Bioware 99% of the time). WE knew within hours that the server was the problem, Customer or Tech support didn't know for days. Just a suggestion for ALL tech support forums from here on out.

If you can't find it is probably because it's not installed, read further for the instructions on how to download it, run it and finally have it run.

My content still shows up as unauthorized.

Please read back a bit on the thread; I posted the answer to this several times. Here it goes again:

Jason Leong wrote...

We have a preview application that contains a number of the DA Updater fixes for the upcoming PC Patch.<br />
You can try it out and see if it helps solve your problems in the meanwhile.
If you do, please let me know if it helps.
http://supportfiles....nostic_beta.exe (This file should install the daupdater)

Also, you'll want to confirm your service starts when you boot the game. A few users have reported they need to manually start their service for some reason.
1. In Windows, Press start
2. Run "services.msc"
3. Find and start "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater"
4. Restart game

Hi,
Still a nogo here. I installed it via the Ultimate Edition and the DLC is installed, but no amount of troubleshooting from all the post in this thread have done diddly squat in getting it fixed. Including reinstalling the game.Image IPB

Also, I must re-authorize my DLC every time I launch the game.
As I understand it, after the first authorization I should be able to log out of my bioware account and not need to reauthorize again. this is definitely not working.

Did you register your UE DLC? - Steam gives you 2 CD KEYS. One of them is the Game, (Which you register under games) and the other is the DLC which you register under GAME CONTENT.

After you do that, and if the dauplodoader service is up and running. Then I have very little insight left. Visit Raen's page of solutions: http://social.biowar...8/index/6265850

Game crashes on me, too.

If I had a pirated copy, I wouldn't have these problems. Think about that Bioware, EA.

You will never, never, NEVER, ***NEVER*** stop piracy. Take your lumps and just release a patch removing DRM.
