So...can someone set that 0 back to a 1 so we can play already?

You can't just do that, man! There's rules, ya know! A lead engineer has to do it, after the forms are filed and the correct supervisors approve it. Then there needs to be a witness to make sure that it is, in fact, a 1, and not a 7, and an inspector needs to come make sure it was the right line of code to modify per company regulations. After that, it's approved by the VP of how-the-hell-is-this-my-job-I-went-to-school-for-accounting, and goes online for us to use.

There is no problem that would take 3 days to solve.

My latest exchange with EA Tech Support:

Philbert: Hi, my name is Philbert. How may I help you?
2250803479: Seriously, your name is Philbert?
2250803479: Sorry, that was just a little surprising
2250803479: So what's the deal with the DAO authentication servers? Any news?
Philbert: hi
Philbert: May I please place you on hold while I check this for you?
2250803479: Sure
Philbert: thanks
Philbert: I would like to inform you that it's a known issue and is being worked upon. Please stay put and it'll be fixed soon.
Philbert: It's not an existing bug but a known issue that just popped up. It's temporary and will be fixed in next 24 - 48 hours.
2250803479: This issue started on Friday. And they were telling people 24-48 hours on Friday.
Philbert: We are sorry for the inconvenience, we are still working to resolve it, it should get resolve in next 48 hrs.
2250803479: So why didn't you just have your name on here say Phil?
Philbert: Its Philbert
2250803479: But... Wouldn't most people named Philbert just go by Phil, for the sake of ease?
Philbert: Yes, it's true, you can say phil
2250803479: Well anyway... The general gist of things is you don't really have any idea when it will be fixed, then?
2250803479: Wait, do I need to send that as an "off the record" message to get a real answer? is that the trick here?
Philbert: It should get resolved in next48hrs
2250803479: Man. Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte can save San Franciso from criminals in 48 hours, but it takes you guys that long to fix a server?
2250803479: I'm forced to assume something must have exploded.
Philbert: I really appreciate your time and cooperation
2250803479: Right. Well, thanks Phil. Looks like neither of us is getting anything else out of this. Have a good one.
Philbert: Is there anything further I may assist you with today?
2250803479: Doesn't look like it. Thanks.
Philbert: Thank you for your participation in the EA Games Chat Support
Have a wonderful day.
Philbert: bye
Philbert: take care

Someone should tell EA that people are unable to pay them money for DLC. That would get this fixed right quick. Oh wait...you can still pay them to get the points....just not use them...
Nevermind.

I heard their servers are located in the core of the Fukushima plant... The Fukushima 50 are trying to restore the authentication server.

I bet that pirated copies don't have this issue....

Thanks Bioware/EA. Keeping pirating necessary.

You are right, the flawed DRM system they have is affecting loyal paying customers. I'm not against a DRM, it keeps the industry afloat, but they should definitely address issues like this with priority. Because as you say illegal copies of the game are being enjoyed by the non-paying players, while we, the paying consumers are stuck with this. (And its going up to 80 hours soon).

True, but it's not just 80 hours!

Back when I bought the CE, I had the DLC suddenly be unauthorized ruining my savegames because I didn't realise it right away.

Two days ago I needed something to play, got the ultimate edition because I wanted to get up to speed before possibly getting DA II. Again there is an issue rendering me unable to play the game, through no fault of my own. Maybe I am just extremely unlucky, but as a paying customer I feel cheated.

Doesn't help that the 15% discount coupon tech support awarded me for my trouble doesn't work. Though I don't think I am going to buy a bioware game anytime soon.

Well, it's good to know that they know about the issue. We still may be ignored but at least they are aware of the issue. I am going to create a DA:O board game and you guys can all come over and play. I promise you won't have to authenticate a darn thing! (But you do have to bring booze.)

As I said in another thread, I'm going to write about this for Ars Technica. If you'd like to tell your story of how you've been treated, do it here and I'll be on the lookout for updates to include in the story.

And also, to Bioware, this problem cropped up on Friday morning and you just now get around to posting here to tell us about it, after many of us wasted part of our weekend trying to troubleshoot this broken game?

Well, at least I've brought some degree of levity. What can I say, when I get frustrated, I start trolling a little.

I feel like I've been working since last Friday. First identifying that the issue was not local (reinstalling, and troubleshooting files), then posting on Raen's original Post, then posting over the various threads the status of affairs and our findings, then more research and queues with EA Customer Service. And now that the official thread is out, just battling my internal impatience not necessarily for the need to play anymore, but for a slight Obsessive Compulsion to see this fixed after having spent additional money on DLC on Friday.

There is a bitter taste to this, the same feeling after breaking up with your partner. *Shakes fist* Maker be damned!

So...you're saying you're single? Image IPB
