Over the April 9, 2011 weekend, some of our Dragon Age: Origins content servers experienced an as yet unidentified failure. As a result, users began to experience error messages when attempting to access their downloadable content, indicating that the DLC was unauthorized.

We apologize for the inconvenience and are currently investigating and working to resolve the issue on our end. We will update this thread once we know more.

Thank you very much. It's very important you do this, because there are many users here on this forum who don't know what's going on and trying all sorts of desperate measures to get their game going again.

Also: Tech support doesn't seem to be aware of this (probably not your business), as I encountered several posters who were still told a short time ago to re-install their DLC (to no avail, of course) or even re-install Dragon Age from scratch. This information should have been out as soon as possible.

I agree- I appreciate that you posted. Tech support took 36 hours to get back to me, only to tell me to empty by browser cache?? then to reinstall the program. I appreciate knowing that it is a server issues and you posted this, but sooner would have helped.
Thanks

I'm experiencing this problem currently. I occasionally can start my game, but when I do I find that I'm missing a lot of equipment (presumably stuff I found in DLC packs). Given that I bought the ultimate edition and should have all the DLC installed, I'd sort of like to make this work.

Of course, given that this is a prime example of stupid copy protection getting in the way of legal users trying to play a single-player game offline, I might just drop my plans for purchasing future BioWare games (DA:2, for example) entirely. I mean, what kind of ridicustupulous single player game requires so much online verification? Sure am glad we're working so hard to keep the pirates at bay.

So yeah. Get this working ASAP. I paid for the dang game. In the meantime, I'll go play WoW or something.

You'll have to wait until EA fix their authorization server. Nothing you can do right now.

You can, however, start a game, since the DLC isn't relevant in the first ten, fourteen hours (depending how fast you play) and will only show up afterwards. You can add them when the servers are online again.

Double drag, I bought the Deluxe edition last summer and the ultimate last month. I hope they fix this permanently. I'm planning on buying DA2 ultimate next year, but not if this keeps up.

Hmm, and my content still shows up as unauthorized. Even after logging out and logging back in. So not entirely fixed.

I spoke with yet another rep this morning. They said it's coming back on a 'one by one basis'. I don't think I'll hold my breath.

Authorizations servers still working fine over here... might be a completely different problem - there is a sticky thread on the PC board that deals with DLC trouble and solutions. Might be worth checking it out... it says "PC only", but in this case, Mac are PCs (Personal Computers), too.

Mine is a brand new installation with the dlc coming up as not authorized. This is their problem.

There can be many issues with "brand new installations" as well. Unrelated to the server outage. Do you want to play the game or do you want to wait until "They" fix it? Go check the threads.

I do want to play the game but the server is the issue.

I have checked the threads. Considering most of them refer to the daupdater (which doesn't exist on the Mac) that doesn't help me. Delete and reinstall? Did that too. Removed the addins folder and file. Did that. Removed the settings file and folder, did that.

The only thing I haven't done this time is the dreaded "change the authorized from 1 to 0" in the file because frankly it seems pretty bogus.

I understand you're trying to help Marvin_Arnold, but I'm so unbelievable frustrated with this whole situation you can't believe it. I have this very same game on my PC and can't play it there. On my PC I can't use the disc I purchased because the extractor fails at 15%. Every time I bring that up to the techs they ignore the thread from EA forums with dozens of people having the same problem. They converted my game to a digital download. Do you know how long it takes to download 27GB? When the first install didn't work (dlc content unauthorized, how about that?) they had me delete it and redownload it. 110 hours of download time now. Because you guessed it, the second install didn't work either. Somehow the daupdater never got installed on either of the of the downloads from EA's own download manager program. I have talking with techs every other day since the first of this month. I'm getting no where. So I chalked it up to a bad situation and purchased the exactly same game for my Mac, expecting the install to be better. Rinse and repeat. No dlc content.

Sorry for the rant but if I hear the rep tell me to download 27GBs one more time I'm gonna punch something.

Sorry to hear that they haven't been able to help you resolve this.  One thing to confirm is that you can see all the DLCs here, that are attached to the account you are logging into the game with.  (for ex: with this account, I do not see any DAO DLCs on it - so if you are logging in to the game with this account, that would be the problem).

If this is the account you'd like to use, then please ensure you redeem the DLC code(s) provided - you can do so here.

Feel free to IM me directly if that still does not work for you - sorry again that you're having issues with this.

F.

Anything else I can do?

Update:
I spoke to yet another rep, confirmed the servers for the DLC were up and running. I told him all the things I've done including reinstalling which didn't fix the problem.

Finally he had to give me an entirely new promo code for the DLC. Then, miraculously, it worked. For whatever reason, the code I entered during the time the servers were borked made my code invalid. Poundcake, I had the same problem as you. Try asking them for a new code.

I am also having problems with this issue. I had the unauthorized messaging, found and followed the instructions regarding the updating of the XML file to fix it, but I'm no longer seeing ANY of my DLC Achievement related items showing up on new characters. The only one showing up is the Blood Dragon armor. I also bought multiple versions, including most recently the Ultimate Edition for the Mac. Help?

pens9091, sorry if I sounded a bit harsh, but I had spent the entire Weekend of Doom (as I like to call it) following what was going on and giving advice and moral support as far as I could. The servers were already running back then, and I was a bit tired about people just leaning back and waiting for things to happen to them.

As I had done the past days, I should have told you to check your on-site DLC activation, which is a prerequisite for the in-game activation to work in the first place. Apparently, since the promo code was broken, they weren't activated there. (However, it seems Poundcake already has them activated on-site.)

I am glad things are working again for you. Promo code getting broken is an interesting problem that should be kept in mind in the future.

Tilrythran, the Addins.xml fix most of the time just lets you resume the game, without the DLC. Seems to be a problem/feature of the Ultimate edition. Sorry if I repeat myself, but have you tried logging out or disconnecting from the internet, and then resuming a game? It seems this works with some editions, but not with others...

Fernando, thanks for still hanging around and helping people after the WoD...

Marvin, thank you for your response.  Yes, I have tried restarting the computer, logging out, logging in, playing while being disconnected, connected, logged out, logged in, ... no luck so far.

I also tried reinstalling.  No joy there, either.  :(
