I always wonder why people choose Velanna over Anders. I mean, I can see Anders whining on DA2 being annoying but Velana is as obsessed as he is. And I can see people condemning his actions on DA2 but Velanna is worse. She is a serial killer that kills with massive cruelty to the innocent victims that she didn't even bother to investigate if they were guilty.

She is a good mage, but her killing spree on DAA turns me cold. Anders at least had a somewhat valid reason. Velanna ? Couldn't be arsed to investigate what my Warden discovered in 5 minutes. And Merril is so much nicer!!! I really can't see why anyone would chose Velanna.

It was the "warm and fuzzy" comment to Nate about killing all those innocent people that forever enshrined her in my hate list.  I don't ever want to see Velanna again either.

Well, as I said, Wynne is my first choice, but, odds are she's dead due to age. Morrigan is probably related to the plot, so she's out. And that leaves Velanna, Bethany, and Anders. I've already stated that I don't like Anders...at all. He's okay as a lite comic relief in Awakenings, since Alistair is gone and sorely missed, and Bethany.....meh...she's okay....but she doesn't fit without Hawke. No...I'll take Velanna.

The Hero of Fereldon AND
The Champion of Kirkwall (Lelilana mentions in DA2 closing that the champion disappeared just like the Hereo of Fereldon did, she thinks that’s not a coincidence)
Varric because he's such a character
Anders to find out what happens to him when he changes the world
Fenris to watch his character develop and grow
Merrill we need her viewpoint and unique perspective
Morrigan because she's evil and maybe has an old god child to add more difficulties/conflicts to everyone's lives

Teagan might be another good one to add to the story line and Wynne would be interesting, since she's dead and all.

I don't care for Leliana-she's too pushy, Isabella is too ****ty, or Zev since he became a cheat.

Cullen. A templar squad mate would certainly be interesting.
I rather liked Ariane from the Witch-hunt DLC. She'd be a good one to bring back.
Nathaniel Howe was pretty cool.
Varric of course.
Fenris was a jerk sometimes but he was also freaking awesome.
Honestly I can't pick a mage to bring back. They all sucked except for Merrill. But She was a major romance option for the Champion on DAII. Since they decided to make DAIII a new hero it would really interfere with the DAII storyline for those like myself that chose to romance Merrill.

Hawks, both Champion and Viscount of Kirkwall even if mage and sided with mages and new First Enchanter if mage. Archdemon Child/ Warden and Morrigan's son. Flemeth. Don't care want her. Morrigan of course. The Architect. Feynriel. Anders, Justice/Vengeance. Varric and Oghren first encountered in DA3 working as their own two man unstoppable Dwarven army. Can we please have Alistair AND Loghain? Alistair was such a **** about that. Nathaniel. Fenris he was just purely badass

Seriously I'm tired of getting all of these companions and only being able to use a half of them. Yeah with all the ones like Flemeth, Morrigan, Archdemon Child, Architect and the Warden and Hawke it may be over powered being able to have the PC and ALL companions traveling at the same time, but with all the stuff we've already done in the series and with what we know and definitely with what we are yet to know about DA3 our group is going to have NO CHOICE WHATSOEVER, but to be anything less than infinitely overpowered compared to every enemy. Especially when the Mages rebel enough to gather up into an army then go somewhere to prepare say.....the last of the Emperium? With all the mages in Thedas going there everyone will be ****ed well except maybe one of the Heroes and possibly Flemeth and the Architect. Oh forgot Sten for the ones I want to come back. What was with that anyway? THE Sten and that Tal-Vashoth merchant in the Wending Wood. They were like African-American looking, but with white hair then every other "Quin" is pale white with horns and weird ass clothing and markings? Anyway I've made my point, this one needs to be so ****ing awesome and so difficult that casual is like Nightmare mode, put together with DMD and H&H modes from Devil May Cry.

If i was playing as the warden it would be:

Leliana - My LI
Fenris - just have a feeling he would join the warden
Anders - most interesting mage available seeing as Morrigan disappered
Zevran - looking for fun and adventure
Alistair - my wardens best friend and eeks to get away from the politics of being king for a bit and letting Anora rule while he's on adventure
Aveline - can see her joining the warden and fighting alongside hime

If i played as Hawke:

Isabela - she was my LI and she pretty much said she was never going to leave my side and she adds a lot of comic relief
Cullen - his view on mages seems to have changed so he wouldn't be greatly opposed to who you side with
Anders - can see him being the annoying one who is increasingly fearing for the mages cause
Aveline - can see her joining Hawke again and being the good companion who fights for whats right
Leliana - is interested in Hawke and wants to accompany him to find the warden
Zevran - seeks adventure and finds Hawke to be an interesting person and never got to repay Hawke for helping him in Kirkwall

New Protagonist - give him new characters and past companions could be mentors or people who help him/her in their quest

If i had to choose i would play Hawke again, but seeing as we have a new character a major appearance by Hawke would be awesome and he is accompanied bi his LI

Well. If only I could have these people in the next game.

Anders -one of the most interesting new companions. I fully support his actions. And he is healer.

Zevran - cheerfull elf who deflect personal questions and never whines about his past, despite all he has been through. Points for being handsome.

Fenris - I suppose. Because I need warrior. He seems as someone who would follow you. He can growls at the magic and be angry at our enemies.

Nathaniel - even if that would be diffucult. Semms like he really loves his life with Wardens. If not the Varric of course.

Ariane - that Dalish girl from Witch hunt. In my opinions she is the best Dalish in the game (ok right after the keeper Marethari). Intelligent, strong, insightfull and cares about the dalish history. I never understood why the had to make Merril into this naive dalish oh I know nothing about the world type.

Justice - I know I know, but he was such an awesome tank. May DA:A was all about him, Anders and Nathaniel. Best party ever.

And my Warden. I loved my second mage playthrought more than anything.

Since Morrigan is off, Wynne probably died, Leliana never interested me, Ogrhen lost all his appeal in Awakening, or I wanted to kick Merril out after her quest...

This would be my dream team

Aveline - By far my favorite character in DA2. She has a heart bigger than Thedas and is willing to do anything to protect her companions.

Sigrun - Her perky attitude and her past with the Legion of the Dead could make some interesting contrast to the things going on between the mages and templars. Besides, she would make a good LI.

The Messenger - I know that he was technically not a companion, though you could ask for his assistance during the battle of Amaranthine. Having a darkspawn as a follower would surely spice things up. However, I know this is impossible for those who chose to kill the Architect and the Messenger.

Leliana - As a Seeker, she would certainly be interested in trying to find the Champion and the Warden. Something this big and world shaking, it would be a wonder if neither of them were involved.

Carver - I haven't finished my mage playthrough quite yet, but having a templar / Grey Warden Carver accompany you would provide a unique perspective on the mage-templar war.

As for mages, I have no idea. Morrigan ran off through the Eluvian with my Warden, Wynne is gone, and I absolutely hated Anders. That leaves Merrill. Her use of blood magic in the last game might change some of her opinions on the conflict, which could make some compelling story arcs. However, I would prefer to have some new companions. Maybe a senior enchanter from the Circle in Orlais gone apostate.

Varric - because chest hair.

Shale - Imagine all the pigeons we could kill together!
Varric - So full of awesome. I might have to fight Bianca for him though.
Zevran - Never hurts to have a dashing assassin on your side.
Carver - I made him a Warden and I'd love to see how he's come into his own.

I'd really like to see some of the others again too but it seems highly unlikely so no point in mentioning them.

 I need the factor in availability here. Last time I checked, some of these characters were too busy to drop things and start "adventuring". That being said, I will assume Morrigan, Sten, Alistair, Wynne, Anders, Justice, and Leliana are unavailable.

So my top seven are:

1. Varric- He provides useful intelligence (given his profession) and would make a useful ally for the Inquisition.

2. Oghren- Personal favorite. His presence would immediately make the story more enjoyable.

3. Sigrun- A good balance between likeability and capability.

4. Fenris- He's available, and preferable when compared to the other remaining companions.

5. Isabela- Learned more about her in the comics, grew to respect and hate her a little more.

6. Bethany- The only reliable mage I've come across (story-wise)

7. Nathaniel- He's pretty balanced, emotionally, and has proven himself an adept Grey Warden.

 I'd rather have mostly new characters, so seriously, just these three:

Shale - because Shale
Nate - Because he's mah boi.
Varric - He was just too cool to not come back. 

Now, in some awesome thing where I'm playing as my Warden again and they're on some epic quest to do epic things again and all my favourites are back again? Well...

-Shale - Because Shale.

-Nate - Because he's mah boi.

-Varric - He was just too cool to not come back. 

-Leliana - My favourite character in the series, also LI.

-Some new mage - because now that I think about it all the current mages in the series I either didn't like, don't really care if they return or are dead. Maybe my mage Hawke could come back as a companion somehow.

-Zevran - Never fails to make me laugh. Also hung around with my Warden in my epilogue, so it'd make sense.

-Oghren - Same as above.

Poor Mhairi If she hadn't died during the joining she would've been one of my favorites. I'm always a sucker for the Paragon types. Also shouldn't it be DA2 Anders/Vengeance? Otherwise Justice should be a separate character in DAA.
