I would like some new companions as well even in a "dream team" that I could
So assuming the base game without DLC's will have seven companions (with perhaps one or two more as dlc's) I'd like to see the following 3 companions return to the party (I'd like the other four to be new companions regardless):

From DA:O
1st choice, Zevran (hopefully the unique companion clothing system means he'll actually get some sexy antivan outfits with boots this time around) 2nd choice Shale (prefer dwarf form but Golem would be okay too).
From DA:A
1st choice Nathaniel Howe, what can I say I just want a chance to get a chance to romance Nate. 2nd choice Sigrun
From DA2
1st choice Varric, 2nd choice Carver/Bethany (Carver would actually be my first choice, but as I know DA3 isn't going to be focused on the Wardens I'm afraid he would take the place of Nate and if push comes to shove I'd rather have Nate. If Carver is going to be in the game it goes without saying that he should be a potential LI)

 Varric- Fits the storyteller/traveler role
Tallis- Always wanted an elven  female rogue LI
Charade- small connection to Hawke, expansion of her own story
Morrigan- would be nice to see her back, could be interesting to involve her in the Mage/templar conflict. One of her sisters though could also work.
Cassandra- Why else would they make a movie about her?
 Hawke- Wouldn't that be awesome, though unless it has an advanced import system this is highly unlikely. 
So of the previous main cast members the only necessity is Varric. Otherwise I'm perfectly fine with a completely new cast. Also, just realized this list is highly populated by women but, I can't think of any fun male characters, outside of Varric, from the previous games that I'd need to have around. Everyone else would be doing their own thing.

Morrigan: for obvious story reasons
Alister: Because of story, I want to know more so suprise me
Any Romance/Lover: That would include Anders even. Both DAO and Da2.
Varric: what would I do without my dwarf?

And I guess thats it.
