* Anders for story reasons...and just because he's an awesome character
* Morrigan, mainly for story reasons; I never get along with her - the one time I did, she called me her sister; think my heart melted a little.
* Zevran, due to my agreement with another poster - we need SOMEONE cheerful.
* Sandal, because I think he is a part of some huge future plot twist.
* Loghain - okay, I realize he died in many of people's playthroughs, but if he lived in any, he is sent to Orlais...and with the recent trouble there, imagine the drama.
* Leliana - just for plot reasons; never liked her much.
* Alistair for plot reasons.

And the Warden and Hawke as the main protagonists.


I seriously doubt there won't be a DA3. It just may take another two years. But then if the world ends in 2012...no DA3. lol

Really hoping that we'll get old companions instead of all new cast. I think most people are attached to certain characters by now, and adding more instead of exploiting the potential of the old ones seems like a perfectly wasted opportunity. It's hard to grow the right kind of attachment (positive or negative) to NPCs if there's too many of them to choose from.

[Rabies]

1. Morrigan: I miss this evil witch and her story is easily the most interesting. If you didn't romance her as the Warden it'd be cool to romance her in DA3.
2. Sten: I miss having a qunari companion.
3. Isabella (Romance): I romanced her in DA2, and I would like to see that she stuck around with my apostate Hawke. The pirate queen was also an immense source of hilarity.
4. Nathaniel Howe: He's got the info on what the Wardens are up to, and he'd be an awesome archer to have in the party.
5. Bethany/Carver: I really liked the siblings. I developed an attachment to them and I wish they could become more integral to the game.
6. Oghren: You need a dwarf in the party, and nobody was funnier than your bro Oghren.
7. Merrill: I guess she would be my final choice, just because I need another mage in the party and neither Velanna or Wynn really stood out to me.

This is blatantly a "my favorite characters" list without any thought paid to tactics or party composition, though looking over it, it's come out pretty balanced.

Rampant speculation time: I'm eager to see how ME3 handles companions, as - like most of the DA characters - the ME1/2 cast members suffer from a "could be dead" problem. If ME3 introduces a completely new set of characters, I shall sigh heavily and resign myself to the likelihood that we're going to get the same in DA3. If not, then there's at least some hope of getting our old friends back.

Oghren - Drunken humour makes the game enjoyable at some points. Also because the voice actor for Oghren is the same person who does the voice of Grayson Hunt from Bulletstorm.

Pre-Justice Anders - I kinda liked when Anders witty remarks made me lmao and maybe he and Justice found a way of separating or something that or ..

The Messenger from Awakening - Remember this cheerful fellow? When he sent a msg for you to tell you the Architect was making a move on the Mother, would be really cool to have a Darkspawn companion for once .

Velanna - Purely coz she's abrupt, rude, cynical and the storyline kinda leave it open for more of her tale to be told much like my next contender.

Morrigan - Well purely coz she's awesome I don't think I could add anymore to that

Varric - Who can forget this lovable dwarf? He was definitely my favourite in DA2 made me in hysterics at times.

Merrill - Shy, timid, gullible definitely makes for a laugh in most situations.


Not picks but guesses of who else may make a return:


Sten - Man of few words, gets the job done without questions, would definitely be cool to see Stens reaction to the Arishoks death (if any), I have this strange feeling that his success in Ferelden may have made him into some kinda leadership role if he doesn't appear as a companion.

Leliana or Cassandra - Basically a given from the bombshell at the end of DA2 .

Cullen - He wasn't very prominent in DA:O but in DA2 he made a very prominent role and seemed to be one of the leading NPCs.

There will definitely be a lot of appearances from previous companions but those are my picks.
