Anyone else following Tom Chick's Dragon Age: Origins Gaming Diary on Fidgit?

Mr. Chick (one of the best writers in gaming) is playing a review copy of the 360 version and posting his not-particularly-spoilery impressions.

His followup on using tactics in an ogre battle was very good.

I've been following it. I was pleasantly surprised that he's enjoying it so much because he's not too big on RPG's, IIRC. I mean, he didn't get pulled in until the game clock had ticked over to about ten and a half hours because he's not into story or characters outside of combat. The transformation for him after that mark is quite compelling.

So its not too spoilery? Its not so much the big plot beggining/ending stuff Im concerned with, just the middle/sidequest stuff.

So far, it mentioned a few companion names you probably already know, and the fact that there are ogres in the game ;)

I liked the combat stuff, good to read the reactions of someone who doesn't really care about the game.

It's not spoilery at all, unless you you're very sensitive to basic things like companion names and basic types of monsters.

His review actually made me laugh, and in a good way. Which is a rarity for me when I read reviews.

Good to see the old 'let the enemy see you then run the frak away' tactic still works.

Sounds interesting. Can´t wait to find out! TOm CHick is really a decent writer, I like his stuff alot. I wish he would write more about RPGs, but what can one do if it is not his cup of tea.

Great description of his experiences with DA, I think its really interesting to see a non-RPG person describing his experiences with the game. Really looking forward to the next one. Thanks to the OP for bringing this up!

So far everything I had heard pointed to archery being fairly weak. Glad to see that he was able to make it work, makes me happy about creating an archer myself :)

It's also fantastic to get the 360 vs PC debate answered by someone who's played, as opposed to all of the forum trolls! Excellent little review--if anyone's debating clicking through, I'd recommend going ahead, it ruins nothing that you haven't seen fi you've been on this forum for more than a day or two.

I enjoyed reading that, there's nothing new or anything but I could really sense that he was having fun. Damn I can't wait for this game any longer.

Not sure how it answers the debate. He had the 360 copy to review, he played the 360 copy.

Very good read. Thanks for sharing the link.

One question though: Why does he keep saying "After the jump, blah blah blah"? What does that even mean?

It shows that Tom is having a great time with the 360 version and stated he has been glad he can hang out on the couch instead of in front of his computer monitor more than a few times. He is enjoying the 36 version even though he stated he prefers pc gaming with these types of games. Fact is, the pc fanboys on this forum are just over run and irrational, for pc fanboys, the 360 and ps3 versions are worthless....which is not going to be true. All 3 will be great games and for those of us who don't give a damn about mods, the console versions look to be just as good in all aspects. Still comes down to playing it on whichever system you like, shouldn't be a debate, I could care less if the many pc players on this forum still in their moms basement at age 30 keep telling me that my PS3 version will be terrible.

I'm a bit worried about fights being so easy for the first 10hrs.. I might need to play on hard then although i had planned to do easy.

Very interesting read anyway, thanks for the link!

Haha, "still in their mom's basement". classic. I get it. Because they have  a PC and refuse to play the game on a console. So they must be immature losers that have nothing better to do than live in their mom's basement playing games all day long. That's an awesome conclusion. Sort of like it's video games and music responisble for school shootings and suicides. I'd have loved to have known you 20 years ago when the DnD witch hunt was in full swing. You'd have been a riot. I love people like you. You're all just so entertaining. First you talk about the Rampant PC fanboism then you go on to show that you're a fanboi yourself by using a Console Fanboi's argument. classic. Love you guys. So much free entertainment.
