Meh - it doesn't really bother me - I'm still a Bioware fan - it's like your sports team having a bad year, no big deal unless the trend continues...after a few years you expect them to fire the coach

I actually really like the sports analogy.  Except it's not "no big deal" it's usually HUGE TV ratings decline.
The boston Red Sox are the perfect example of "build a team using metrics".

The 2011 red sox are the perfect "metrics" team, but they suck.   The 2004 team was a goofball mix of odd personalities and none of them great "metric" type players.  They were a  ton of fun to watch, and won the world series when they were counted out in the first round of the playoffs.

Epstein got rid of all the players who did not fit his Metric model, and 2011 is Theo's team.  It's exactly the type of team he wanted to put together (except for maybe a few pieces like Josh Becket, who it turns out we actually really need)  and it's a diaster on the field.

More importantly, the 2011 red sox are simply boring and have odd graphics.  Adrian Gonzelez' eyebrows are like the DA2 elves.

Red Sox TV ratings way down, and I honestly have not watched a full baseball game at all this year.

Just like I can't get through the DA2 game without shutting it off and playing DCUO instead.

its a little early to say the '11 red sox suck, i mean granted my rangers kicked the hell out of them to open the season and have since only lost 1 game.. i mean the AL EAST is pretty weak with tampa being really bad too.

I've spent $56 in worse ways than this mediocre game. The real burn isn't the cash, it's the Death of my favorite gaming Genre. The western party based RPG.

It's been replaced with "lulz respawn and lulz romance"

Well the '11 red sucks could still win the world series, so yeah, but you have to understand red sox fans.

Our greatest 2 seasons are tarnished by the steroids era. Yankees fans are too arrogant to care that every single one of their playoff wins was HGH enabled.   Us red sox fans at least feel awkward about it.

the '10 Red Sox had a record good enough to be in the playoffs outside the AL east.  But they were still incredibly boring and horrible to watch.

Just like Dragon Age 2.  It has good review scores and good sales, but it's still a boring Call of Duty/God of War clone/:innocent:

The 2004 team and the 2011 team were both built using metric - very similar metrics.  Theo Epstein hasn't changed that much.

You're just drawing some really poor conclusions based on a small sample size of 2011 data.

Look - compare the seasons so far of the Baltimore Orioles and the Seattle Mariners.  The Orioles are 6-3 and lead the AL East.  The Mariners are 2-7 and are last in the AL West.

But the two teams have actually played almost exactly the same quality of baseball.  The Orioles are hitting .216/.282/.348, which if you adjust for parks and competition is about 27% below average.  The Mariners are hitting 215/.285/.312, which if you adjust for parks and competition is about 28% below average.  But the O's are hitting much better with runners on (while the M's hit better with the bases empty - and we have mountains of data which shows that this isn't a sustainable skill, so we're talking about random variance here), so they're turning their weak offensive output into wins much more efficiently than the M's are.

That doesn't make them better.  That makes them luckier. And luck isn't a skill.

You're basically jumping to the same conclusions about the Red Sox - you're judging the construction of their team based on outcomes that aren't meaningfully related to team construction at these sample sizes.

I did not come here to talk about baseball.  But your argument relies on a gross misunderstanding of statistics.

And it's exactly this sort of shoddy reasoning that leads to people misidentifying the features they like in games.

Throughout MLB, attendance correlates extremely well with the previous season's winning percentage.  Fans might say they think the games are boring, but if the team wins they'll come to the games next year.  No matter how the team wins.

I'm not in any stage as I liked the game. I didn't like that particular post by Gaider. I thought it was rude and arrogant, but meh I doubt he cares that much anyway.

Too busy playing(and enjoying) my free copy of ME2 (which i never bought, not being much of a mouse/eye shooter type).
But I have a small amount of hope that once i finish ME2 a decent set of fan made mods will be available to make a second DA2 playthru possibly, maybe semi enjoyable.

Been reading up about EA, seems they are in a bit of a financial trouble and there is a possibility of it becoming a takeover target. Possible suiters are Microsoft( hello xbox) or maybe even Apple, which would show that Apple is making the big move to bring out some sort of iconcole. Either way bad news for us PC types. What I would love is for Bioware to do a Management buyout.

Great post.  Or better yet, Have Curt Schilling buy them out!

The "Money is staying in my pocket next time" stage.

ME2 triggered that for me. I've wondered how many "Adults"(25+ and employed/imo) love that game.

I've been itching to play a good RPG lately too, can't reward a lame product though.

I'd say I'm in the disbelief stage, at what EA has done to Bioware and the applause that followed.

This as well.

It's not the money I care about rather the quality of the finished product.

This. I enjoyed the game pretty much for what it was. I couldn't give a damn if it was called Origins 2. It's not meant to be Origins 2 after all. Only thing I didn't like was the lack of immersion with Hawke. Other than that, I enjoyed the game.

If you are saying the people designing the games are misjudging their audience, that's argueable.

But you can't say people themselves misidentify what they like in their games. The only person you can speak for is yourself in that regard.

I have ME2 to thank for that... oh did that game make me vent, and vent I did; I still can't believe I spent so much time and effort in critiquing the game on these forums. However it was the catharsis I needed to come to accept Bioware's new  "streamlined" direction. At this stage I have transcended even the acceptance stage and become utterly apathetic. I honestly think I will never again feel compelled to purchase a Bioware game. I still lurk these forums because it gives me solace to feel a shared sense of camaraderie with other like minded folks.

Acceptance. I just play it on casual and enjoy it for what it IS not what it isn't. That and make mods, recolour armour etc. I am making sure to get my money's worth :)

I grew up surrounded by Leafs fans, I know exactly what it is to always root for the losers :) I am also a mother so i know what it is like to have someone look up to me one day and curse me the next.

I am still a fan of what Bioware has done in the past. Only time will tell if I like what they do in the future. DA2 wasn't MY thing, and I sincerely hope they don't do it like that again. ( I don't like dumbed down games, at least now I know this!) but whatever. Life goes on.

They will fail or succeed on their own merits in the future. Success or failures in their past will only simplify or complicate how easily things are received that is all. I will still watch them intently, and hope for another game I really love. I think DA2 COULD have been it, given another year or so to develop. Will they get this time? I don't know. The only people who do, is them.
