but why would they want to describe the baby as blonde hair, looking distinctly like Cailen and the baby's mother is human but dead...

all three descriptions fits Alistair completely... why would ALL of Maric's sons' (if Alistair is not the one) mothers died before their child even grew up to be more than a toddler... it's too cliche...

unless that is Felmeth's deal... all of Maric's sons' mothers will die young because she wants their lifeform to continue living forever....

I am ready to believe that Fiona is Alistair's mother as long as 2 things are explained... one why he tells us his father died before his mother did (he tells you that before you go to Redcliffe) when later someone else says his mother died giving birth (this has nothing to do with why Fiona can't be his mother, I just want to know which it is :P unless Maric died while his mother was pregnant) and Goldanna. Wouldn't Goldanna know her mother was pregnant? Like, if you're going to make up a story don't involve real people to be the fake siblings! Unless Goldanna's mother died giving birth to a baby who also died, and they jumped on that opportunity to say 'A hah, okay the baby didn't die and this is Alistair's real mother and never mind the man behind the curtain.' The Goldanna part is really the only reason I'm skeptical.

I guess I'm confused what your issue is.

If you don't see it now, you probably won't see it if I explain it again. Let's just say we'll never agree on this point and leave it at that.

10 years later Nobody cares. I think it's completely moot whether or not Alistair is her kid or not. Life literally went right on.

Seeing as how Bioware is ignoring it makes me lose interest in it as well as a 'viable plotline.' for what, exactly?

It's canon fact that Maric disappeared five years before game time.  So Alistair is lying, for whatever reason.  Seems to me either he is trying to throw the Warden off (he does look a lot like dad and s/he might figure it out) or he's speaking metaphorically, i.e. his father was that dead to him.

I'm of two minds really.  I would like Alistair to be Fiona's son, but they might need another mage and/or another Theirin for story purposes.  As long as it's handled un-cheesily, then I can accept it.  I already had one Theirin crush (sort of) ruined by post-game revelations.  What's one more!

This.

I've somewhat followed this thread, and others before it on this issue.

I really think that, while it's an interesting discussion, it's meaningless.

Fiona doesn't appear in any games.  She's never even mentioned.  Marric's dead.  Rowan is dead.  Fiona is dead.  Alistair was put forward as, and acceped as, Marric's son, no matter who his mother was.

Why does this matter?

The only way I see this being a relevant plotline is if Alistair isn't Fiona's son, since that would mean that there be other contenders for the throne. However, it seems unlikely they'd go that route after DA2.

But even that is only relevant if they ever return the series to Ferelden, which is not certain.

Fiona's dead?  Oh rly?

It might not matter, but DG said we'd find out what happened to Maric and Fiona, so I'm gonna say it will come up again.  We know something "big" is happening with the Wardens, maybe something to do with the Architect, and Fiona was researching the Architect.  He's writing a book about Wynne's son, so it could be in that context we learn something.

She's not?  Sorry, I thought she was.  Where is she?  (No, I never read the Calling.  My only knowledge is from thread-reading).

It may well make for a good book idea . . . I'm not sure it would fit into the game anyplace.  As I mentioned above, unless the game returns us to Ferelden, even the idea that there is another contender for the throne is no more than a footnote.

Fiona was cured of the taint, so she may have died of natural causes or of Wardening, but she could be alive. Last we knew she was headed to the Anderfels to study the Architect and be studied herself. In some epilogues Alistair also goes to Weisshaupt. So theoretically, there could be more to this story. And I hope there is. If someone says "we've already seen these characters, I don't want to see any more of them," I'm going to Fireball them. lol

I can see how her research would have some influence on the plot, but it is not dependant on whether she is Alistair's mom or not. I don't see how that would be picked up apart from a footnote. Or possibly a short companion quest for either of them.

lol.  I don't mind returning characters.  In fact, I kind of like recurring characters in a series, so long as they have a point, and aren;t there just for gratuitous "look, game 1 and game 2 have something in common!!!" reasons.

I'd be okay with exploring more of the Wardens, and Weiskopf is a good idea for that.  I'm just not sure its in Bioware's plans - this seems more the tale of Thedas, not the take of the Wardens.

Plus, remember - epilogues are rumor and hearsay.  Image IPB

Hey, if it bothers you so much you should go into one of the Anders or Mage threads, I hear they're much, much nicer. :innocent:

but actually, since 10 years had past since Alistair was put on the throne (if u made him), it would be silly to have a long-lost mother reunion... unless it's meant to be a plot to bring Alistair down as his mother is a mage

I always figured that Fiona was probably Jowan's mother, not Allistair's, but who knows :) . She should play the biggest role going forward for her part in curing the taint, not whose mother she is or isn't. Our Warden is clearly going to need her help in staying alive past the expiration date, as it were. Of course if it turns out she's dead Im sure Morrigan (or even Flemeth) can find or create a cure instead, but if Fiona alive she could definitely be the one responsible for ultimately finding that cure, I think she would be the most appropriate one to do it.

Jowan went to the Circle at about five years old. His mother didn't want him when she found out he was a mage, and she drove his father to leave him at the Chantry.
