Mass Effect may soon be adding multiplayer gameplay.
A new job listing posted on Electronic Arts'
website suggests the franchise will be adding a multiplayer component
sometime in the future. The listing calls for someone to take Mass
Effect's "existing single player user experiences and make them
multiplayer safe."
It should be noted this listing is for BioWare's studio in Montreal, which offered development support for Mass Effect 2. The franchise is primarily developed in Edmonton.
It's possible this could be a multiplayer expansion for Mass Effect 2, or an additional component for Mass Effect 3.

The first two titles did not include multiplayer elements, but there have been rumors that it could be incorporated into the third. BioWare's Casey Hudson commented in Game Informer that "we don't have anything to announce at this time" regarding multiplayer.
Personally I feel pretty strongly about it, and Bioware is hanging on by a thread with me, especially with what's going on with Dragon Age Origins at the moment.
In the span of less than 4 months, Mass Effect 3 has gone from my most anticipated game of the year to 'most concerned about' game of the year.
If this pans out to be true I for one will not buy this game.....
