I think it would be better if we could sort of choose our voice, alas tis only a dream.

Anyway, yes I agree, the voice is nicer but most old schoolers will disagree due to their stubborness with new things.

I don't think that's true.

If Dragon Age 1 hero was fully voice people would have no problem with it either.

I think the main issue is by adding voice they have to limit your what kind of hero you can play due to..1) Have to hire more voice actors or pay a few to work a lot longer 2) Manging all the voice works 3) Can it fit on a disc? 4) Will it cause the game to take longer time to load?  5)  Longer development time

This flower power world you live in, it isn't the same in DA universe where if your weak you end up dying due to gangs, darkspawn, monsters of all kinds. You prefer people talking out their difference then you wouldn't pick aggressive action to begin with you would pick one of the lighter choices. When you pick anger/aggressive fist emoticon you expect such and not the hills are alive with the sound of music, lets hold hands and dance to the top of the hill. Lets face it given the options if thats the most aggressive then the others would be decending from I'm with my sister > Your a big meanie Posted Image > I love you.

The difference between the options was tiny in DA2 barely even a change in tone of voice. My Hawke was a man of action not words in my playthrough and he had to be to survive the countless gangs and 'waves' of all creatures and attackers. I do not want a big tree hug moment when someone threatens his family.

I will point this out again as why I hated the wheel approach in DA, it's because not only is it immersion breaking because your forced into the role of someone else which removes the point of allowing customisation in CC to begin with and then sounding like someone else who does not match the voice you attribute to your hero or PC especially if like me you roleplay in the sense you create and place yourself in those worlds and situations via CC and your own voice in your head as you read. But also the simple fact in life and in general you are taught to think before you speak, this is not how DA2 works and your working on guess work based on emoticons, instead of knowing what you want to say before you say it.

I just want to know what my character will say before he says it. I felt there were some instances in DA 2 where I didn't quite get the intent from Hawke I thought I would. Perhaps an option to click a different button besides select to see word-for-word what Hawke will say.

I never had a problem with a voiced protagonist in ME, neither I have a problem with it in DA2. And since the wheel is already implemented I doubt they are going back.

But.... I'm the only one that read the text out loud? I'm the only one that can perfectly hear my character voice in my head before selecting an option? Because I fail to see how some-actor voice can be better that my own voice voicing my character.

I must be a weirdo, but none of my pre-wheel characters were ever mute...

Point being missed. And I guess it's on purpose. Lovely generalizations and hyperbole again. Never mind that I'd prefer it if you stopped with your presumptions about my characters as well as myself. Yes, diplomacy goes a long way. The red symbol doesn't stand for "Aggressive Action" btw.

Ah, but whatever. I guess we both feel like we're talking to a brick wall.

So from wall to wall: Peace?

Nah if someone threatens a member of your family, you smash their face in if your playing your character as a tough guy/renegade sort.

No.
Clint Eastwood as a tough guy would just stare them down. Especially an injured "cop" trying to do his job.
Evil/Tough Guy/Renegade != Violent Psychopath

Truth be told if Mage Hawke and Bethany were really wise they would've killed Aveline and Wesley.

But the story dictates that you can't do that. Just like I could't let Eamon die in Origins... :bandit:

Yeah that was a bit ugh.

Eh to be honest, I always understood that was the intention.
The lines half the time involving or leading to killing someone seems a strong hint, too.....

If someone threatened Clint Eastwoods family he wouldn't stare them down.

There are two red symbols. Crossed swords -> Murder Knife, hostile action. Balled fist: No nonsense/badass response.;)

That's the same for the purple ones. The mask is the Trollface comment, the diamond one is the neutral-hardened comment.

It doesn't stand for diplomatic either, that has it's own option and icon and was an alternative choice in the dialogue itself. If someone shows you a big red fist icon you expect fists not diplomacy.

Thats just one example from a game riddled with contradictions in what your have to 'guess will say' based on icons and in reality says something different.

But "I stand by my Sister" isn´t really badass, is it? Something like "Touch her and you´re dead" would have been fitting.

the "I stand with her" line is not bad, as such, but i think it would have been better as the diplomatic option.

Since we are at it, one thing I really don't understand...
we are given 7 different 'style' of dialogue on the wheel:

Diplomatic
Posted Image

Helpful
Posted Image

Trollfa... Sarcastic
Posted Image

Neutral
Posted Image

Aggressive
Posted Image

Direct
Posted Image

Combat
Posted Image

why the hell so many if for like 95% of the game we have only 3 (aside from investigative, extort and romances)?
give us those option every time, not once in a blue moon!
and if it's about costs/developing times, just don't put them in the game to begin with!

Some of them depend on the personality of your Hawke. (Dominant trait & all that)

Agree. Other games have voiced characters that say exactly what the text says and they do fine. I don't know why Bioware is so stubborn with their wheel.

I think Luke said they were considering a box that pop-upped when you hover'd over a line for a certain amount of time that would show you the full sentence. I think this is a great idea, but it seemed like it was only a 'well maybe... *forget about it in a week*' type of idea instead of a top priority.

David Gaider said this too, I believe. They are definitely considering it. And that's good.

It was good for the past but really reading text boxes and having no voice is like taking a step back to the past. Are there gamers that want to go back to having to draw your own maps and lots of time sinks just to pad the game out and make it feel like it is longer than it really is? these are the types of cinematic RPGs Bioware has been building to since Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. These are the types of games I dreamed about as a kid hearing the voices making the game feel more life like. It would suck going back to the past.  I don't really think I could sit through anymore where the game is vague at best so you don't know exactly what you need to do just so the game makers can make you feel like the game is longer than it is.

basic literacy:  too much to ask for.

That actually sounds like a really good solution. The only real issue with the graphical layout of the wheel seems to be there is less room for text than the old-fashioned menu.

The best between way for me is have a VO character with full written answers... This can make happy OldSchool Rpg lovers like me or The Voiced char lover to.. I can't imagine a better way to fix it...What about that?

Voiced char+Dialog whell+full written answer+tone of them for me this is the best way to make mhhhhhh almost all happy
