Were any of the screens actually representative of in-game graphics? They all seemed to be just showing off character models and concept art.

I honestly doubt it, most of the pictures look like concept art, or are stills from an FMV, similar to how ME2  has one that begins aboard the Normandy.  The chances of those being actual ingame photos is very low.

There are pics in the article of combat that to me are clearly in game, and are looking far bettert than anything I saw on my 360 version of ME2. It looks better than the in game FMV stuff in ME2, which I agree often look worse than true true in game cutscenes. In either case the graphics of ME3 as seen in the images in Game Informer look to be a strong upgrade from ME2. Bioware has laready stated how they've further refined the engine so its not suprising. It looks about as I expected it to.

Wait is the gameinformer issue out already i thought it was slated for an april 28th release?

It has been floating around for like a week now.

Yeah, suckas, my GI's sitting on my desk right now. It's been well read, fron to back. Image IPB

But on graphics - given that ME3 has been built on the same engine as ME2, we should expect to see mainly tweaks to the existing product rather than eanything markedly different. Expect improved textures and palettes, as well as more detailed/complex environments ala Arrival and LotSB. Apart from those, don't expect too much more, as ME2 apparently already pushes the limits of current-gen consoles.

If you think they're true in game images, we'll just have to wait and see until more information comes out.  The cinematic type angles the pictures are in make me skeptical in believing we've got true game visuals.  But  rather pre-rendered stills they use to generally give the fans something to feed off of.

If they had more time and more money, they probably could turn ME3 into more of a visual feast:

no, you won't be seeing that on your crappy console son. That requires a
top of the range modern PC with 3 graphics cards to run.

Hahaha.  True, maybe not without serious optimization though.  Look at how Crysis had to be maimed on the console using the Cryengine 3, low draw distance and whatnot.

I honestly believe that Mass Effect 3 will introduce the Trailer-grade graphics people have been asking for.

Or at least it looks like it.

I don't mind if they graphics are the same. I'd prefer if they reused models from ME2 and some skins so that they can focus their efforts on other designs like female models, etc

I'd generally prefer if they just improved existing graphic models and stopped making those annoying low quality ones, with the blurry low textured clothes.  If they do that, along with maybe a few new interesting world textures, while not trying to make the game visuals something it's not, I'm a happy person.

It really doesn't look that much better, sorry. Max ME2 on 1080p and you'll understand what I mean. If you are a 360 player or have a slower PC, I suppose they could look a lot better. The textures look a bit better, though.

Graphics don't make a good game. Crysis is the best example of this.

And honestly, I can't care less about how many FPS or how high resolution the game has. Just play the damn game and shut the hell up.

Crysis 1 was da ****. And when I mean da ****, I mean it was actually ****. But crysis 2 was really fun and a very good game. Story is still **** though.

I wouldn't want it, as "good" as it looks. More realistic visuals only rubs me off as a step backwards, instead of forward.

You realize you just said better graphics will make you think less of the game...sounds pretty stupid to me.

The point i was trying to make with this thread is merely that mass effect is a series that focuses heavily upon presentation, and graphics and music are the two biggest factors in that.

All Mass Effect needs at this point is tweaking, we don't need to saturate the game with bloom, or blur, just tweaks of small things, like models, textures maybe, and those blurry clothes you can see on some characters.  Anything else is just trying too hard to make a jump, despite the distance between the game's predecessor not being very far off.  But once again, I must say that I'm skeptical at the same time of there being any major graphical change.  At this point, it is still too early to judge what the game is going to look like visually with pictures that are likely not ingame photos.

Once we get some non-cutscene photos, no closeups, that is when we can decide on whether they have simply tweaked, or taken a major overhaul to the visual style.  Graphics don't make it everything, I still find Mass Effect's visual style sometimes more convicing and beautiful than even Mass Effect 2's environments, despite the what.. Three year difference?  In the end, however..  Regardless what happens, Mass Effect 3 will likely still be "Mass Effect".
