In a nutshell:
"The
year is 2023...Imagine yourself in America today. Everywhere you look,
the Television, the internet, there is chaos. Killing, bloodshed, and
bombings, and for what? Then... imagine a retaliation on the United
States - a biological attack. One that sends the entire Eastern Coast
into a frenzy of meat craving flesh ripping zombies. This is Modern
Zombie Survival 2: Outbreak.

Outbreak is a premiere modern module
that is set in a city called Ether City, Georgia in the USA, in a
post-apocalyptic state after a biological attack involving a major viral
outbreak. This outbreak has caused reanimation in the dead, turning
regular innocent citizens into blood thirsty flesh craving monsters. The
only thing that you can do is find what supplies you need, and try to
survive. Whether you try to survive in the city with other people as a
team, or go it alone is your choice. Outside safe-zones and safe-houses
the chance for death or infection dramatically increases, but you must
go out at some point or another to search for supplies required for
survival.

The module takes persistency seriously, and as a
character there are things that you can do in game that will carry that
persistency. Actions as teams or as individuals can caused changes in
the design of areas, attitudes of NPCs, survival rates, and many, many
more things.

We encourage you to RP accordingly as you would in a
real-life situation as the module is based on what would happen if this
was real. It is a pseudo-simulation of an actual biological attack of
this nature, similar to those that you would find in the games of
Resident Evil.

Our team above all tries to create the feeling and
atmosphere of hopelessness, distress, fear and suspense. We create the
feeling that while doing what you can to survive, one little thing could
end it all for you. Keeping the suspenseful sequence and high quality
RP a top priority, you are sure to be kept on the edge of your seats.

The
purpose of this mod is to create the illusion that this is the real
world, and hence create the feeling that you are there. All of our
players are expected to roleplay as if this -were- the real world in
America. We are constantly growing daily as this Genre becomes more
popular, and adding more and more options things to the mod with every
chance we get."

# Creepy realistic environments. Attention is
being paid into atmosphere, creating realistic suspenseful and immersive

Whenever I feel down, bored or just want to have fun it's always MZS2 I go to. It's the funnest modern server out there, if not the funnest server on MZS2.

I've played for about thirteen months and gone off and on, but whenever I quit - I always go back.

I highly recommend that anyone with a desire for a good ZS experience search elsewhere, since you won't find it here. While the server has a lot of potential, most of it is wasted by the uncaring (and inexperienced,) DM team, though I won't name names. Generally, a lack of experience isn't something to be faulted for; It is, however, an incredibly bad thing when the single experienced DM doesn't seem to actually care. Couple that with a blatant anti-British feeling throughout many of the recent plots (It only takes a brief glance at a PIRA RP post on the MZS2 forum to see this,)  a decidedly unfriendly DM team and community, and an administration more likely to make fun of your concerns (And you,) than acknowledge them, and you end up with an unfortunate mistake. One that keeps happening. It's a shame that DM Feral was scared away by all this; The server was headed for great things.

I don't usually post negative stuff, but I felt the need to comment on the "anti-British" part that Arthur mentioned above.

I played briefly because the concept of the server sounded interesting, and I was looking for a server that could hold my interest when my main server didn't have any players on (which doesn't really happen these days, so combined with my lack of playtime and that, it's kind of a moot point). I wasn't too impressed with the RP that was going on, but one of the people told me something along the lines of "I swear it's not normally like this", and that's perfectly cool - I gave it a chance. Despite being surrounded by zombies whenever outside, in the end I left mostly due to boredom. Zombie apocalypse shouldn't have me just doing run after run to scrounge with next to no quality RP in the interim - though honestly, I didn't play for more than a week, so that could just be my very very limited experience. The actual build of the world, and ideas in the game held promise (though the new "badge" system sounds like it would take away from the realistic aspect, but eh.) - it _is_ a very nice modern world they've built. I got a bit worried by some of the responses I saw to things on the forum, but I chalk that up to not being familiar with the players and staff and their relationships.

My main issue was honestly this: I'm pretty open minded with plotlines, but noone seemed to be able to, or want to, answer my questions about why the IRA were the "good guys" in the MZS2 world. I don't want to start a political discussion, and I'd happily accept if there were actually reason, but I was told that the MZS2 world takes place in the US. Thus the British/IRA involvement makes no sense without reason. This is post apocalyptic - why the heck do these two groups even care about each other anymore, and if they do, why do they care in the US? Most of the population is dead - find your own city and hunker down; there's no reason for such squabbling in a single location. The US is a little bit bigger than the British isles.

Maybe there was really good reason for this, and maybe that kind of plotline isn't even in the server anymore, but during my brief time there I asked at least 3 players and 1 DM in-game why the British were "bad" and IRA were "good", and the most I ever got was that the British NPCs all wore evil-looking masks. It didn't really smell of proper depth and realism, so I PMed the head admin to ask. I didn't even get a response. That's what made me lose interest in the end - take the time to attract new players and then ignore a pretty valid question? I would have accepted a vague answer and a FOIG, even, but instead I got nothing. If you're going to use real-world political and/or terrorist groups, and do something that an outsider could very very easily see as heavily biased by making one side clearly "the good guys" and another clearly "the bad guys", you need to have a good explanation _somewhere_, or I would hope that would alienate most mature RPers.

As mentioned, There is a disturbing anti-british aura on the server lately, which is odd in that The server is set in Georgia.
Sadly "Private RP" is very common, in areas only open to a few and perhaps more odd members of the new staff are former perma banned members.

Its also rather unfortunate that the Admin is prone to scapegoating and player attacks. Reading the forum alone shows how little thats changed.

Wids is Rhodes on MZS2. Just for the record.

I was banned permanently for 'multiple violation upon violation' without an explanation of what these things were, and I doubt Skeet properly posted my goodbye message, so here it is.

Quote: "I have been addicted to this server since I was ten, in late 2009.

The concept and people here led me to create an account on the forums: Verin. I was banned for several issues, however, I was never banned on the forum, and after the host changed 20,000 times I was allowed to log back on as my new persona, Elsworth. I turned eleven September 16th, 2010 and ever since have been having problems here.

I have had remote access to the staff forums (Nice eye, Zebora and Rhodes.) and have for about a month now. Nobody contacted me saying I was in trouble, Skeet. I mean, honestly. You have a foreign fifteen year old who just finished middle school, and 14 and a month year old (Torry), and Drakaden, who's myspace page is under "Drakaden"....

I'm not asking to come back here, and it saddens me that I probably won't ever, but to be honest, thank you so much, Skeet. Your people here have helped me so much. Pax, before he left. Jedisauce, amidst the whole InvalidOpinion ride and being cool about my age.

I just want you and everyone to know that I'm not a psychopath (and I forgive you, Drak, for that) and sincerely love everyone that plays here. I know people will throw parties (Rhodes and Drakaden, namely), but that doesn't matter. My opinion has not and will not ever change: I was here to do TWO THINGS: Have fun, and make the game funner for others.

I was really getting better, you know. I was. As an eleven-year old, I don't have much experience or the know-how to act like an adult. It's not impossible, but I'm just not mature enough.

I just want you all to know that I sincerely love all of you guys for either making this wonderful server or playing it, and for you to all know why I was the way I am, and how I knew the things I knew.

It's been good,
Elsy

P.S. Tell Drakaden good fight, if you will!"

I'd counter that argument, to those that would actually log into the server, and check things out. You'll find that the DM team is friendly and normally willing to help out anybody that needs something. What you -won't- find however, is a staff that is gonna hold your hand, pamper your ass, and tell you that everything is going to be alright. We are a mature (18+) gaming community, and we're not here to deal with anybody's drama.

This is probably the main reason that people become unwelcome to the server. As you can see, on occasion we will ban people. (Asmius, after a 30 post discussion of multiple violations including transferring items and harassing other players)... and it's no surprise that as soon as we ban them from the forums, HERE THEY COME BUDDY! Right to this little spot here.

Which only furthers my point I think?

MZS2 doesn't need the drama, nor the pissy attitudes.

If you want to sit here and try and convince people not to play, simply because your attitude doesn't fly with the community, then that is overtly your decision. But don't expect for a second to be welcome in the community either, because those are 'exactly' the attitudes that we are trying to keep out here in social bioware land, and OUT of our land.

I have played on this server a while back. I'm a heavy roleplayer and I did appreciate the time I spent there a while back. The only reason I played was the 'mature' atmosphere and the setting. I did sign into the forums but never viewed it much.

Gameplay was awsome. loved the scripting.
The players I did play with I did enjoy the time spent with them.

I do recommend you join in for the mature atmosphere at least. i'm a heavy scripter and I was impressed with the scripting there on some of those zombies and use on atmosphere. I dont think I played with the people who complained. (nor do I remember account names like I used to).

Give it a shot and try it for yourself

I'm mostly amazed how well Asmius writes for an eleven year old. Seriously. Impressive.

But still, for the sake of conversation, I should add to the discussion:

Skeet112 wrote...

If you could address my issues as well, that would be great for potential future players. In relation to your above post, for example, "not hand holding/ass pampering" shouldn't include replying to player questions, even if they're new players, with regards to pretty important story points. As I wrote above, yes, there's always the FOIG reply, but any reply would have been preferable to none at all.

Also for reference to other forum posters, my PMed question/comments to Skeet had been:

"I figured I'd PM because the last new guy who posted about "everyone around seemed to be a tough guy" publicly was kind of scolded. I've only been on once, so I'm not going to repeat that. You seem to be the DM who knows what's going on, based on the forum, so I just had a quick question about the factions.

I was on last night and there was all kinds of talk about IRA and SAS. I asked the DM who was on at the time and he wasn't very informative; he just kind of danced around the detail and said "the SAS are bad because they look like this!" and spawned a soldier that looked like the Helghast from Killzone. ;)

Is there an actual IC reason for the IRA and SAS to a) be in the United States, and B) be fighting each other in this one city when there's probably plenty of other cities to move on to, let alone the zombie outbreak that might make people forgive/forget?

I'm new and don't have a lot of playtime anyway, but it was a bit jarring to play an intelligent character who has some concept of history and have no one explain what was going on. It was equally jarring to be following people who thought it made perfect sense to melee-attack zombies like it was nothing, as well...but my char chalked that up to crazy. ;)"

Mature atmosphere is great, and it's what I look for in games these days, but without mature RP backing the atmosphere up, it breaks the immersion considerably. Again, though, I was only around for a week, so my experience could be highly skewed from the norm. As Chass said, the scripting, general setting, and building is quite good, especially considering it's modding a medieval-based game.

@ Arinoch, sorry I missed your PM. I'm a busy guy, as you could imagine.

I'm actually the wrong person to answer any questions about the IRA and their presence. The DM you should ask is Zebora. If he cannot give you a valid answer, then I don't know who can because he runs that faction.

What to say about MZS2...

Let's start with the good things. The player base is nice, the people are good people, I always enjoyed RPing there. The scripting is neat, and the module is interesting to look at.

The biggest problem with MZS2 is their staff.

The MZS2 staff are like bullies on a playground. They want to be kings of their little empire, and that's all fine well and good - but they're willing to push away and get rid of quality RPers that question their flawed logic. Alot of the things the DMs do don't make any sense, and when you ask them what they are doing or why they are doing it, they assume you're backtalking and you get punished for it.

Say, I was RPing a certain storyline for 4 months or a little more, and the team suddenly comes to me (after four months of them supporting my storyline) and says that my RP is invalid, that my story never made any sense, and that I should have known better than to do it in the first place.

They are not impartial, they are not neutral or objective - if they dislike you OOC, you should full well expect to get screwed over IC, and then when you argue with them about what happened you'll end up banned.

tl;dr this server would be epic if it had a better team, but until the management changes, it isn't worth playing.

Oh! On a side note - the DM team, after my banning, has still been talking about me. To a point that they have done google searches on my screen name, and found a TS/TV profile that matches my screen name - and all of them are having a nice, gut-busting guffaw over it.

Now, I don't care one bit about that - I have nothing to hide. I'm proud of enjoying what I enjoy. But the fact that they're sitting around in the DM forums gossipping about it means that my point is proven more and more - the staff is immature and ridiculous. If all they can talk about is how I have a profile on a TS/TV dating website, they certainly aren't the kind of DM team I'd want to play with.
