Also, another thing that often helps - no matter how tempting it is to be reactive & let the rogue help out on the first person s/he sees attacking the party with backstabs - a good tactic is for them to scout ahead & lay traps to lure the bad chaps onto as they chase them back toward the party.

And its almost always a good idea to send them ahead stealthily to backstab any opposing casters while the rest of the party gets their full attention by waving axes & stuff at them & their melee buddies. Very few pure casters can withstand a couple of decent backstabs and it plays havoc by disrupting their spells.
