See, I think you can hate Twilight & not be an elitist jerk. You'd read the book, or as much as you could get through, then put it down, then not buy the next. If someone says, "Did you like it?" you'd say, "No, I hated it. It made no sense, it was boring, & I wanted to slap the sparkly hero & get the girl on prozac." And that would be that.

When you feel the need to tell everyone else how much you hate it, & how stupid they are for liking it, that's elitist jerk territory. Of course, I haven't yet seen an elitist who minds being an elitist - it's kind of a narcissistic flag for "I'm better than you."

Unfortunately, (from my own experience) if your standing amidst a group of Twilight fans and you are asked the dreaded question "Are you a Twilight fan?" and you politely say "Its not my thing" they often go overboard, label you as a "hater" and try to convert you (sort of like religious fanatics, haha). Generally speaking, fanaticism or hyperactiveness in any flavor tends to bother me, and can come off as elitist. I generally think telling people that there opinion is wrong, and prefer to just politely state that "I disagree, and this is why..." if I asked, or if I think saying so seems appropriate. Its easy to be a "troll" or, just say things to ****** people off- but its not how I roll. However, the internet was made for trolls (and porn, apparently.)

Edit 2: On the V:tM topic, I've always been partial to the Kiasyd bloodline myself. From the main thirteen Clans, Nosferatu, definately. Bloodlines was a exceptional game, too bad Activision didn't let Troika finish it...Even worse, too bad Activision killed Troika.

I'd be thrilled to never see vampires featured, mentioned or remembered ever again, unless in some past (good) production. No, I didn't bother read beyond the title.

You'd be surprised just how much design comes from a place of loathing.

Reflecting on the design choices and story direction of DA2, perhaps not.

Actually yeah. Any chance Bioware is picking up on the Vampires: The Masquarade franchise?

Not necessarily in DA, but I would totally be sold to it.

Ah man, now that would be something to get excited about should it ever transpire!

Like Bethesda picking up Fallout 3, I would be more cautious than excited.

I happen to like Fallout 3 actually. Also Fallout NV. so I wouldn't mind Bethesda or Obsidian doing it either tbh.

I'm indifferent to Twilight, myself.
Far be it from me to deny a woman her gush fantasy, and frankly hating it is expending too much energy on irrelevancy.
I have far more problems with Eragon anyway.

I've never seen Twilight and I intend to keep it that way. I will also not read the books, but I'm a male so I'm probably not their target audience anyway. Back to Vampires. We already have established ways that Blood Magic functions. Vampire bites are inferior to stabbing someone and then soaking up their blood like a sponge alas Huon. To have them bite people and then drink their blood? Would just slow things down and look like stretching to far into already established Blood Magic lore.

I consider Fallout 3 semi-playable without at least a dozen mods.
Which granted is a major step up from Oblivion, which is unplayable without 50 mods.

Blood magic seems to already fit the role of a vampire class. just look at tavinter. all the ruleing class mages use blood magic almost hourly. they need to feed their power with blood in order to survive. not to mention they also have wealth and political power makeing them very vampire like in all manners. pluse I bet not a lot of them like to go out in the day light.

Wow if BioWare took up VTM the howling from some circles would resemble an orchestra of scorched cats.  (The author of this post does not in any way endorse scorching cast he has just always wanted to use that term that was said by a character in 'A Christmas Carol'.)

I could see it in a story line where rather than kill people to power spells, a blood mage keeps a victim alive as a constant replenishing source of blood, basically draining them of life without actually killing them.  Maybe they get them near death then heal them again, rinse repeat.  That could be creepier and more horrific than the mass murder angle that Tevinters seem to favor.

Twilight is one of those pop phenomena that has totally passed me by, like Harry Potter (which I did try to read, but couldn't).  What I don't get is, why do people want to wuv vampires rather than be scared ****less by them?  That takes all the fun out of it, doesn't it?  Kids these days.

This isn't exactly new. Even Bram Stoker's Dracula could be seductive when he wanted to be.
It's the appeal of having hypnotic power over others, eternal youth, etc. Either being that person or having the attention of them. The whole feeding on blood and killing victims becomes almost an afterthought.

Very true.
There's also people who find the act of feeding erotic in itself.

I thought that was men that liked their wives to become really fat and then sit on them. Maybe it is related.

But those are characters in the story being mesmerized/ attracted to the vampire, not fans thinking he's all cuddly.  Did Anne Rice start this?

Note to DG:  I do not loathe such trends!  [/reverse psychology]

Possibly. Her works seem to be the ones that make the shift from vampires overpowering their victim's minds to being achingly beautiful.

BAMF! http://wiki.white-wo...?title=Tzimisce

Sticking with the topic, if vampires were ever put into DA style, I'd hope for something more original than "A guy with pointy teeth"

Yes this is correct, it was even pronounced so in VtM:Redemption (One of my favourite RPG's), and I did enjoy Bloodlines, although on a day 1 purchase, I remember it being unplayable due to bugs, broken plots and even a quest 3/4 of the way through which would crash the game.

And someones remark saying that Vampires are weak due to sunlight, in Bram Stoker's novel which pretty much made vampires well known throughout the world, Sunlight as well as garlic, holy water are a mere nuisance for the dark prince, sunlight being that during the day he can't use his undead powers, Garlic being a repellant, and Holy Water causing minor burns.

and to whomever said they should pick up the VtM license, best suggestion on this forum ever, I'd love to see what they could do with the franchise (Make a baldurs gate esque vampire game, similar to Redemption but with a better team behind it)

I dunno, I thought that the whole "Carmilla" vampire thing predated Anne Rice by quite a bit.
