If you saved Amaranthine, DA:2 considers the vigil fallen?!?!

So I was trying to figure out why my proper import with everyone alive except for Justice was not giving me "Finding Nathaniel".  He was at 100, he was at the Vigil which was upgraded and survived.  I did his quests, all that fuss.  And then I stumble across someone who claims that the game assumes the keep was lost if you saved the city.  I mean, what is the damn point of bothering with all those upgrades and everything?!!?

And it made sense that this is the case.  When I tried to generate a save similar to what my real import is, I set both flags for Vigil Keep survived and saved Amarinthe, the game ignored one of them and declared that I let the city burn!

I would like to know if this is indeed the case.  It's stupid, imho, since it nullifies half the crap I wasted my time doing in Awakening, but at least if I know I can go back and redo the ending *sigh* and have Nathaniel and Anders with me at the end so they survive for sure.  But I need to know either way.

*grumbles* What was the point of my trying so hard to upgrade the keep?!  GRRRR.

I believe it's just that the saves aren't properly tracking the fully upgraded keep. The only time I got it to show properly was using a save game editor and not a traditional game.

Is this one of the bugs that's supposed to be fixed with the upcoming patch?

I'm hoping the patch fixes it, I'm in the same situation. I left Nat and Anders at the Vigil and they survived because it was fully upgraded, but my import's world state said Anders had died and Nat left the Wardens.

I just did a world status right now and indeed... Anders was at the keep and he's considered to have died.  OMG.
I hope the patch fixes this because it's super annoying.  If not, back I go to let everyone but Nathaniel, Anders and Sigrun die.  SIGH.  ARG.

If anders dies, does he disapear from DA2?

Nah, if he dies at the Keep, then in the finding Nat quest in DA2 he implies that his death was faked.

The Vigil did fall if you saved Amaranthine; the only thing that changes is whether it is salvageable and how long it held.

How do you run a "world status"?

I had a similar problem where I chose to protect everything (in terms of the farms, city, roads), but the game told me I was a hero to the farmers =\\\\\\

If the Vigil is upgraded the epilogue says that the attacking horde "broke upon her walls" which sounds to me like the siege failed.

Indeed. Looks like a bug either in DAA or in DA2 (although in DAA it shows the skull and crossbones for Vigil's Keep even if the epilog says it survived). Here's one better. If you have Nate with you and you kill the Architect (Nate will dissaprove but not by a whole lot), he WILL appear in DA2, but the game will insist that you spared the Architect when you didn't.

So if you have Nathaniel in your party he will always survive into DA2?

I might be mistaken, but I think that depends on his final approval rating.  If it's not high enough he leaves the Wardens and isn't imported.  I can't say for sure, though, since all game saves where I used Nate in the final battle does have him show up in DA2...and it always says I spared the Architect when I do even though I NEVER spare the Architect.

You need 100 approval and to have done his quests.

LOL, I just don't care about that since I spared the Architect.  I'm just miffed that I tried to make sure all but Justice survived, wasted time and money to upgrade the keep so that the companions survive... took V... whatever her name is with me even though I prefer Anders just so she'd stick around... left people I knew would survive according to epilogue.  And then DA:2 goes and says "hellz NO, they're all dead".
Nathaniel was not my favourite, I wouldn't have taken him with me, I simply want the quest for the Nate/Anders reunion and the final upgrade for Varric.  And the only way to get that going right now is to either:
1. Let the city burn, something that isn't in my character's personality to do.
2. Bring Nathaniel and Anders with me, which results in my having to choose if I want Oghren or Sigrun to actually survive, ICK.

And all of this means replaying the ending of Awakening and the bloody Golems (gawds, how much of a pain that way)... and Witch Hunt.
All because... I don't even know WHY!  What is the point of epilogue cards and bothering to upgrade the keep if they're going to just ignore the whole ordeal?

I'm playing a game where both Anders and Justice are apparently dead and resurected despite my best efforts!  Madness.
I have to wonder after all this time... what kind of testers tested this game?  UGH

My 2 DA2 playthroughs worked the complete wrong way around. First time I imported a save from Witch Hunt where I had saved Amaranthine and Vigil was destroyed (I did get all upgrades but brought wrong party members - Anders died, I remember) and got Finding Nathaniel quest (not sure if I left Nathaniel at the keep or even whether he lived or died).

Second playthrough I imported a save from Witch Hunt where I had saved Amaranthine but the Vigil survived and was rebuilt quickly (I got all upgrades and nobody died), then got Fool's Gold, which you're not meant to get unless Nathaniel died, which I'm pretty sure he didn't.

By the way - you don't need to replay Awakenings, Golems, etc. I would just find a save game creator out there to import the flags. If there isn't one for Awakenings, you should be able to use the console in DA2 to change the flags which shouldn't be too difficult, and would even mean you wouldn't have to start DA2 again.

Keep in mind in regards to Gibbed saved editor. It doesn't currently register many things. For example you can't import a U.S. among other things with the editor anyway.

I don't know how to change the flags... and the save game editor is overwhelming to say the least.  Trying to read the da2.rim worldstate was a mess, I had to use console to report the world state and it wasn't what I saw in the files.  I would love to hear how to change the flags using the console, but I haven't seen any such.  The only thing I've seen was a way to force the Finding Nathaniel quest to load anyway which sounds like risky business.

Last time I tried to generate a save game, it told me I let the city burn *le sigh*.  And I'd prefer to import MY warden with the decisions I made, with the things I did... *sigh* I just wish it worked properly.

I'm just going to point out that Bioware has said that the epilogue slides are not facts, but rumors and might of happened or might not of happened. They've said this about DA:O and DA:O epilogue slides.

I tried pyGFF from DA:O that works with DA:2 saves now, but it's beyond confusing to make sense of any of it.  All I wanted was to change the Nathaniel flags and... well, I can't quite understand what goes where.  Plus apparently I also have to manually fix that Anders is not dead *sigh*.
I hadn't heard that Gibbed made a save editor, I only found the save generator.  Can you please point me in the right direction?  I can at least test.

Lovely.
So let a whole city burn and save all my companions, or kill off half the companions?  And not even the ones I dislike, because one of them gives a mission in DA:2 that has the last upgrade for Varric?
Just... *sigh* It all seems futile.
