@Shadowrun: I have the import fix in my override folder, so that's not a problem for me. I'm not sure where the approval ratings are, I think they're lower down, I saw lines for each companion from all the games.

The apporval ratings are under 17603 for Nathaniel friendly eligible to read true and him not to leave the Wardens in 17603 you would need to add a line and enter Nathaniels approval code of 1443 in line 17601 of the new line which is numbered like 1- 20 it may be greater or less depending on what save your importing and add a value of 91 or greater to line 17602 for him not to leave the Wardens. Its the same for the Leliana and Morrigan romances only their approval codes are different.

Cool.  I just have the override which ignores approval checks if the value is 0.

So I was trying to figure out why my proper import with everyone alive except for Justice was not giving me "Finding Nathaniel".  He was at 100, he was at the Vigil which was upgraded and survived.  I did his quests, all that fuss.  And then I stumble across someone who claims that the game assumes the keep was lost if you saved the city.  I mean, what is the damn point of bothering with all those upgrades and everything?!!?

I feel your pain. I did absolutely the same - my Keep was fully upgraded and I left behind only those characters who wouldn't die in siege. Nathaniel and Anders. And now it seems that they are the only two who I should have brought with me because DA2 assumes they are dead and the Keep is destroyed.
I tried to edit the save game, added Nathaniel approval, changed (NATHANIEL_DIED_IN_VGK_SIEGE) (2084, 17607) to 0 and have NATHANIEL_FRIENDLY_ELIGIBLE set to 1 but I still got "Nathaniel left wardens" from zz_vault_debug. With Monochrome Wench's mod installed I have got "didn't left wardens" at last but I don't know what I need to change in the save to have this result.
But there is good news! Despite the fact that I have done "The Fool's Gold" in Act 2 (I didn't have the mod back there) I now in Act 3 and I see Delilah Howe near the Chantry. The mod really worked and I have "Finding Nathaniel" quest!

Wow... reading this was painful. Kind of ridiculous that there are so many problems with imported files in a series that's supposed to be based around that feature. I have nothing useful to add, really. I always get Nathaniel's quest and he always says the Architect is alive even though I killed him... so I have no clue what's going on or how to fix it. All I know is that even Bioware doesn't seem to be sure how to fix this problem and they only seem to have theories on why it happens in the first place.

At least, that's what I gathered from reading part of the thread about the new patch...

The editing I outlined plus the import fix mod = I also got Delilah in act 3, despite doing Fool's Gold in act 2 (that happened before I edited).

So success!

Because the thought of having to replay the end of Awakening yet again with 2 rogues and 2 mages is not appealing to me.  Because I'd have to have Nathaniel + Anders and the only character I really really don't want dead is Sigrun.
This way I can pretend the whole thing was a glitch and the slides at the end of Awakening are correct and everything still works out fine in DA2 universe.  Except for the fact that Justice is dead way before Anders has a chance to make a deal with him... but alas, nothing can be perfect! :P

I believe if one edits the save in act 1, Fool's Gold should not show up.

I want to play with my Warden import not some crapped out default.  Blah.
Through the effort of many awesome people, I think we finally cracked it though and found a way to fix it.  At least on PC.

No idea why the "they are all dead" thing is happening.  I will venture a guess that they didn't make some sort of flag that checks if the vigil was upgraded.  Or at least didn't check for it in DA2.  But then again, they apparently said the end slides are rumors so MEH, maybe they just don't care about that.  It's just annoying in this case because you spend half the game gathering stupid resources to make sure people survive at the keep.  Ugh.

The Architect alive seems to be a problem with the wrong dialogue being triggered not a problem with a particular flag.  Hence why I haven't heard any mod fix or editing fix that can resolve that problem.  Same with Zevran in a romance - you can set the flags right but he switches between thinking the warden is dead (but he loved him/her) or forgetting all about the romance.  Dialogue not triggering properly, nothing to do with the flag.

The romances in general are ridiculous because a lot of fans played Awakening and DLC and suddenly they ignored the fact that their games don't save the approval across Awakening and DLC.  Like... how could they forget that?!?!  Have they not played their own games?
Everyone blames it on Awakening being borked, but I blame it on some high levels of "We don't care".

Glad to see some things work out for you.  :)

The "Finding Nathaniel" quest bug really ticks me off. I have a PS3 and, thus, cannot mod files. I had Vigil's Keep fully upgraded in DAA, Nathaniel was friendly and he survived — but none of it matters. I always get that damned "Fool's Gold" quest in DA2 and, thus, am robbed of Varric's final upgrade *and* of having another adventure with the sibling I've made into a Grey Warden.

Unfortunately your only option is to replay the ending and make sure you have both Nathaniel and Anders with you.
Else even if you get Finding Nathaniel, he'll talk as if Anders is supposed to be dead.  Ugh.
It really ruins a lot of things, really... and it's ridiculous too.
Plus Varric's last upgrade is in that quest.  Boo.

I just don't understand how these things happened, at all.  I mean, they're the ones that coded what and how is saved in the save file and what imports across Awakening and DLC.

Good luck, hopefully they'll figure something out.  Sadly, I'm not holding my breath on this one :(

Huh. I probably won't bother with it until DA3 is confirmed and close to release. At that point, I'll go back to one of my DAO characters, redo the US ending to make it non-US and use her as the template to replay DAA, Amgarrak and Witch, then load that into DA2 and, well, you get the picture. Mucho hours to redo in order to keep "my" in-game universe intact.

If you're gonna sacrifice your warden in DA:O I don't think you can import those events into Awakening.
Not 100 % certain.

I'm just going to point out that Bioware has said that the epilogue slides are not facts, but rumors and might of happened or might not of happened. They've said this about DA:O and DA:O epilogue slides.

While I belive you, do you have a link to this statement?

I'm actually in the process of doing that. Replaying DAO and Awakenings so the story makes some sense. I'll probably have to replay again once DA3 is released so everything stays consistent. :pinched:

I burned Amarathine and got both the "saved" and "destroyed" quests in 2. And not just once, in every playthrough from that import. Pretty weird.

Just the kind of flawless time and care I expected from Bioware devs.
