When uploading your character's info, and it doesn't manage to connect, the error dialog is behind the "Upload Info" button. Which makes it impossible to get out with Esc or similar and a forced quit is needed

I have the exact same problem. I locks up and you have to force shut it down. The words "UPLOAD INFO" graciously flash on the screen and behind it you see the error " A SERVER ERROR OCCURRED WHILE ATTEMPING TO ACCESS YOUR ONLINE PROFILE STORAGE".

Thought I'd throw in my two cents. I've been able to upload a couple characters, but most of the time I get this message. Is there a problem with the servers? It's annoying to have to force quit the program too.

I can't log in to the social network from within the Character Creator anymore. I can enter my email address and password, but the "Log In" button remains disabled!

I was able to log in and upload 2 characters on the day I installed it, the second day I tried uploading a 3rd character (which didn't show up), on day 3 I tried to upload that very same character again (got an empty page, no name, no picture, no stats). And now, I can't even log in, so I can't upload anything anymore!

What to do?

A number of participants here seems to have rather personalized Avatar pics. So I went to my profile to edit photo, but all I get are the drop-down choices that include some from DA and Mass Effects. So, how would one import a photo, what are the specs for such a photo if it can be imported?

I think the custom avatars are all ones that were uploaded with the character creator.  If you login in the creator with your account info, and then upload your character, your character's avatar will be among your choices here.

You'll want to download the Character Creator and make a character. Through this process, you'll be able to customize the look of your character. When completed, this character will be offered as a portrait option under your account profile, so you too can have a custom look.

Such features will allow you to add hair style, facial features, modify the look of your character and color them as well.

When you're done creating your character, click UPLOAD. It will connect to the BioWare server and upload the character you've created.

Hope that helps.

After I create my character and log-in, I click Upload Info. A message box opens up and "Upload Info" message blinks for several seconds, then closes. No Success message, no Error message, nothing.
When I go to my profile and try to view my characters, there is no character.

Cross reference post can be found here of others having similar issues. The 16 hour response was to how long I had to wait for my portrait to become available. There are some suggestions in the link I provided to speed this up, so have a read and see if anything can be some help to you. Otherwise, patience is the best practice here.

The reason (supposedly) it takes some soooo long to update is because of this rule (found in the faq)..

"No one has visited your DA player profile page - the system decides who to sync based on the popularity of their profile page"

To me this rule is one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen..  The person with the most views of their profile page gets to upload fast and fine.. While a new player or new person to the site will have a difficult time uploading.  It favours people who have been here longer and craps on the new person alienating a new player.  Now it does say sync... so maybe that just pertains to syncing the character while playing the actual game.  I'm not sure.  I have only 8 views of my profile page and mine upload in about five minutes...  (not correctly mind you I have the weird "can't connect to server error"... I get partial uploads of stats and colors just no portrait or character.)  Maybe this rule is or isn't the problem... no matter.. it seems like a stupid rule.

Yay!.. You figured it out. Good job!.. That's the solution folks!.. For some reason everything set on max prevents us from uploading but everything set to default works. I have no idea why this is the case because the first characters I uploaded worked and I've had the settings at max since I download the CC.. But it works. Very strange. Thanks again D31m02!.

Edit: Now I'll have to wait for my character to update to see if it actually uploaded.. but I didn't get the error message.

Has anyone come up with the solution to the problem of the computer shutting off halfway through character creation? I posted my specs earlier, and they should more than meet the minimums. My fan does not gear up and, as far as I know, my computer does not heat up, so I don't know why it is shutting off. I had this same problem with NWN2's Mysteries of Westgate before they put out the hotfix and the newest update.

I would love to have my own personal avatar, but I can't upload any characters when I can't even finish creating them! :(

Just out of curiousity I checked to see if there was any truth to the posting of character stats by "viewed Hits" or number of times that your character profile has been viewed by others as a factor of how long it takes for the server to show your stats. Using my own profile as a test marker I can say "there is no correlation between the number of times your profile is viewed and the time it takes for server update that persons profile. Below was the order I proceeded through the Character Creator and the Website:

Installed the Character Creator

Created my account on this website

My first upload: Time Saturday  October 17th, 2009 Approx. 4:00 PM EST Failed: No update happened on the server at all. I got the Server error message I posted on a previous thread and had to force shutdown.

Second Atempt : Time Saturday October 17th, 2009 11:36 PM EST One Partial Image IPB& One Sucess  Image IPB: First one updated all the stats & Name with no portrait & no no character picture, the second uploaded all Stats & Portrait & Character picture. Server reports the update happened On Sunday October 18th, 3:00 AM. Around 4 1/2 hours later. I got the server error message again and had to force shutdown on this attempt as well. But at least something happened.

Third Attempt: Time Sunday October 18th, 2009 12:01 PM EST Four Partial Image IPB uploads. Same as the partial loads on the 2nd attempt (all stats and no pics) except two differences. On one character the background of the character portrait showed with no character and the rest were missing the portrait completely. The biggest difference was that the server reported the update 46 minutes later !!

It should be noted that NO ONE has viewed my profile ever, so that makes it obvious that server update time is not related to player popularity or "hits on that profile". (The website tracks all this for you).

I am about 90% sure that this is a communication error between the Character Creator program and the server and we are helpless to solve this problem until bioware addresses the issue and corrects it. Since only partial data appears to be making it to the server, with the occasional full transmission of data which happened once out of 6 characters on random tries.

All the missing Pics appeared like missing picture links do on internet, the red "X"

It also should be noted that it appears that you are logged into your ea account when you are logged into this website/CC. I logged into here and opened a new tab and typed in www.ea.com and once i arrived I was already logged in as my dragon age account

System Specs:
Windows Vista 32-bit Ultimate - All run as administrator for those who ask  -most recent version all updates
Internet Explorer Version 8
Intel Core 2 Dou
Nvidia Geforce 9500m Most recent driver

Have you tried watching your task manager and used the CC in windows mode so that you can monitor your computers recources?..   It might just be using too much and automatically shutting off before the computer heats up or something.  That is a strange sounding problem.  My computer used 1.08g Ram and 60 to 80 % CPU while running the game.  I'm running on Win 7, have a Core Duo cpu running at 1.86 and 1.87 ghz.., 2 gigs ram and am running 2 7600 GT KO's on sli.  I don't know if my specs will help you but hopefully it can give you some spectrum to see how your computer runs.

I've never gotten the red X problem..  it's good to know that the popularity thing doesn't matter for uploading characters though.   Did you try lowering your options back to default? As was figured out above this post.  It worked for me anyway.  I have no idea why it would work .. but it did.
