Creating an account was interesting. I got some cryptic error message on an otherwise complete white webpage (which accidently got lost by a reboot). Something with Duplicate link. When I tried to login after that, it worked so for me it wasn't a real issue.

Now I have made uploaded my newly made character, and it does show up in my profile. Only the picture doesn't seem to work. Hopefully it shows up magically and/or after someone views my profile.

Edit2: after reading some more I see there are also issues with graphics set to high? I've never seen an error message after initial creating of the account though. Any hint would be appreciated.

Edit3: with all these edits, it almost feels like a blog. Anyway, I put my graphics settings back to default, uploaded again and now I have my picture in a stunning 27 minutes (as opposed to nothing in 17 hours)!

I expect the tattoo and voice going back to default at modifying a character is a known issue.

Cross reference post can be found here of others having similar issues. The 16 hour response was to how long I had to wait for my portrait to become available. There are some suggestions in the link I provided to speed this up, so have a read and see if anything can be some help to you. Otherwise, patience is the best practice here.

The reason (supposedly) it takes some soooo long to update is because of this rule (found in the faq)..

"No one has visited your DA player profile page - the system decides who to sync based on the popularity of their profile page"   

To me this rule is one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen..  The person with the most views of their profile page gets to upload fast and fine.. While a new player or new person to the site will have a difficult time uploading.  It favours people who have been here longer and craps on the new person alienating a new player.  Now it does say sync... so maybe that just pertains to syncing the character while playing the actual game.  I'm not sure.  I have only 8 views of my profile page and mine upload in about five minutes...  (not correctly mind you I have the weird "can't connect to server error"... I get partial uploads of stats and colors just no portrait or character.)  Maybe this rule is or isn't the problem... no matter.. it seems like a stupid rule.

More than 15 hours and my character has not been uploaded, yet.

And seeing as I'm a lonely outcast, obviously that whole "Upload Characters" business is going to be a complete waste of time for me. Bah!

Hey,
I am new to the forum. I have repeatedly tried to upload my character and it does not appear here. I am wondering if I am doing something wrong or not doing something right. Is there a FAQ somewhere for the character creator?

Getting GPU lockups, resulting in complete loss of signal and requiring a hard system reset. Has occurred 2 out of 5 times running the character creator. Happened first on Catalyst 9.5 and then again after updating to 9.9 (latest release). System specs:

CPU: Opteron 165 1.8GHz - more info
RAM: 2GB OCZ PC3200
Motherboard: DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D

OS: Windows XP Pro SP3 x86

GPU: Radeon HD 4850 512MB - more info
Drivers: Catalyst 9.9
Display: 1920x1080 @ 60Hz (primary), 1400x1050 @ 60Hz (secondary)

After the launch menu I click "play", the CC starts itself, then screen goes black and stay as such even if the hard disk keeps running.
After that, the computer stays locked and there's no way to recover it if not shutting down.

However, changing the CC to windowed mode as he suggested in a later post didn't resolve the issue - it merely resulted in another GPU lockup (the 3rd).

Try deleting the character from your Social Network profile, uploading it again, and logging in/out over at EA.com. That seems to speed things up for me. Then just wait a while, and don't poke around in your DAO character list until the character upload appears on your list of recent activities.

It's kinda dark (not really a techinical issue per se) during chracter creation.could you add a torch or two?

Finally finished downloading the Character creator via Dialup.. 32 hours well spent. Made myself a spitting image.. Well okay a passing resemblance... and would like to upload it but I seem to be having troubles logging in.

Whenever I try to log in, it usually try's for 20 seconds or so, a quick alt-tab out reveals it is in fact downloading, but then inevitably it fails with the message "The Dragon age servers could not be contacted, Please try again". Any suggestions?

I feel ya, I also have dial-up (live in a rural area). Luckily I have a friend with DSL.

Anywho, do you happen to have a firewall? I use ZoneAlarm and sometimes I have to shut it down just so the program will cooperate.

For those having an ATI 4800 series graphics card, I just wanted to say that the CC works fine on default settings at least for me. I use Catalyst 9.8 and seeing the issues I think I'll stick to that for a while. Might be worth a try for others.

On a different note, the difference in character pictures being shown or not, it is really not necessarily a profile viewed option, since my profile isn't viewed and I still got my picture on. For me the only difference between working and not working looks like my graphics settings used. When I turned it down to default, it worked. (Of course, it could also be a server side/communication issue I'm not aware of.)

Can someone please try to answer my post? I heard about the ring that is being given to players who have an uploaded character and I don't want to miss out. Anyways, here's my post from 2 days ago...



Has anyone else come up with the "failed to detect a supporting video card" message? If I need to download a new one, which one should it be? I would assume these specs are more than sufficient.

...Are you asking if you need to download a new video card? Because that's not physically possible. And I also see that your video card isn't mentioned in your specs, so I suppose you don't know what you have?

Wow ! Seems to be a ton of ATI user problems. However, that doesn't suprise me considering ATI's history with drivers and support.



That's why I'll never own one.
