hello i just downloaded the character creator, now mind you i already had the game installed.. bought it, the whole deal... but when i download the character creator... it still says order now.... so... um.. what do i do?

Same problem here, are they going to patch the CC so that we can upload characters created, or at least get the profile storage working properly to allow the upload.  So far I have not been able to upload one character, keep getting the same old error message.

I have tried uploading for several days now. No luck.

Like others, I'm having problems uploading characters. I log in successfully, then click the upload button. The screen fades, and it says "Upload Character" in the middle of the screen. After a few mins, in the background, a message reports "Timed out". Note that "Upload Character" is still in the foreground, and there aren't any exit options available, so I have to alt-tab out and exit by right-clicking it on the task bar.

Tried using the windowed+ 800x600 thing too, and I still get the same problem.

Also I would like to upload my character from the game itself, am I required to use the Character Creator?? I even tried re-making my character in it, but that didn't solve it cause like I said, the upload fails.

Edit: I just tried what someone else said: login before selecting the character to edit/upload, then I didn't get the error, but I got no message. The Player Profile Diagnostics has showed up these errors:

Error Codes
1004 - No story xml file uploaded from the game to the on-line storage server.

1002 - No avatar image uploaded from the game to the on-line storage server.

1003 - No portrait image uploaded from the game to the on-line storage server.





After the last attempt, only Error 1004 remais. (I still need to know if I can upload my character info from the save game )

Edit2: It seems the character creator is still giving me errors but the ingame way of updating my characters is working fine o.O

Another issue of same as the others, the character creator won't allow me to upload after logging in before trying to view/modify my char and skipping through to the end. No issues with logging in.

When uploading a character I keep getting 3 different errors behind the upload info dialog .... Server Error, Unable to connect to online profile, and Timed Out. This makes it impossible to close or even try again without alt+F4'ing out of the program. I am running the following



AMD Phenom 9500 quad-core 2.1 ghz

Win XP SP3

3GB Ram

NVidia GeForce 8500GT 512 mb graphics card

DirectX 9.0c



When I look at my online profile it gives the following on my profile diagnostics on the character I am trying to upload.



1004 - No story xml file uploaded from the game to the on-line storage server.

1003 - No portrait image uploaded from the game to the on-line storage server.



The character XML and Avatar image are fine with green checks.

hrmm it finally uploaded the character but without an avatar .. and no ring DLC available

Add yet another name (mine) to the list. Characters upload (eventually), but with no portrait image (1003) and no story XML (1004). This remains the case with characters even after they've progressed in-game to levels 5+ and 10+.



FWIW, I find the complete lack of response from EA/BW on the character server issues, constant server popups in-game, and apparently ANY other issue posted on these forums absolutely unacceptable and incredibly pathetic given the resources they SHOULD have backing a game of this size and popularity.



Anyone else feel like we've just bought seats to a concert only to have the band decide they didn't feel like playing? Or worse yet, to have the roadies take the stage in their place?

After hitting the Couldn't connect to storage error while trying to Upload Info, I followed the suggestions to use Windowed mode with 800x600 resolution and that worked perfectly.



Quite possibly the strangest bug I have ever seen.

Even tried the windowed mode with 800x600 res ... both with and without daupdater.exe running only to continue rolling through the error prompts (usually a different one of the three each time I try)

I created a character in the creator, saved the character, logged in to my account, and then clicked on upload. It said uploading and then went away with no errors. When should I see my character and ring? Thanks.

Tested on Windows Vista

Update: It just took longer than an hour. Everything is updated.

Says failed to detect a supported video card but I have a valid card, it also said the same thing on my home computer and I thought it would be the PROCESSOR that would be the problem NOT my video card



I want to recreate my characters. This stinks.

The same thing happened to me. I managed to upload my character after changing the display to 800x600 windowed mode. I finaly got my lucky stone after so many ridiculous attempts to upload my character.

No luck here...

edit: Hmm, after some 20+ attempts it just worked. It was set on 800 x 600 window mode, then again I did try this setting about five times and I did not change anything after the previous two attempts, seems to work randomly
... or maybe complaining on the forum fixes stuff, I have to try it more often

I DISABLED DESKTOP COMPOSITION under the compatability of the Character Creator and then I was able to upload a character.

I have been having problems trying to upload characters i have created. At first I received an error stating that the game was unable to contact the server, so I forwarded the ports I believe DA:O requires: 18081, 8000,8001, 443 (both TCP and UDP for each).

After this, when trying again I received the error message stating that it had timed out when attempting to transfer data, so I changed my ECN capability settings to disabled.

Unfortunately I am still having troubles, and I cannot find any toher tips on the forum as to a way to solve the problem.

I am using Vista x64 SP1
Intel Core2 Duo processor
4GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD4850 with 9.7 Catalyst drivers

I hope this is being caused by the servers being busy, as I am hoping to get myself the full DA:O game in a few days, and wanted to create a character beforehand. I will keep trying to upload the character and see if anything changes.


EDIT: (cant believe i didnt try this sooner, just didn't think it would have any effect)

Just tried to upload my characters again after disbling desktop composition as mentioned by lonewolf203 and it appears to have worked, I'll update again once my characters have appeared in my online profile, but the character creator didnt throw any errors so fingers crossed

EDIT 2:
Characters have uploaded ok I think, just missing a Story.xml file, which seems reasonable since they havent started the game yet.

Downloaded and installed fine, if download was a bit slow. But won't run because it gives me a No supported video card found message. What video cards are supported? I can't find info on that anywhere.



My computer uses a Moble Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family card. I have a desktop that this would likely work on but was hoping to have it on my laptop because my laptop runs faster.

First: I use the DVD-version - not Steam.

Tried to install the toolset. The installer did the job, but when done there were no instructions on what to do.

Found a link in the start folder; "Dragon Age Toolset". When I click this i get this message:

Unable to connect to the database.

Run the toolset configuration program and verify your settings or serch the toolset wiki.

The toolset must now exit.

Found the configuration program, but it is not much to do there... On the
first screen i choose Win 32 game: C:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\Dragon Age
- the correct folder. On the second screen I choose default database.

I installed all programs in the installer.

Ok. Found the wiki-guide, and I understand that you have to be a PC expert to make this work. Even if I did get it to start, I dont think I would have understood anything of it.



Is there an easy way to get the extra stuff in character creation without installing the entire toolset? Like adding them to a folder (the World of Warcraft way).

I have tried to create a Elf and Dwarf character, and after the intro They are in the PAUSED MODE and we can not get the PAUSED off, also the camera will not move up and down. We have created human characters and everything works fine. Also the portraits in the inventory for all three is not clear and complete. Can someone please help us with these problems.

Same here. A "Cancel" button would be a good idea.

Yeah I'm getting the same problem...though i cant seem to be able to force quit it though without having to reboot my computer which can be a pain sometimes for me.
