i am surprised that a game of this caliber, multi-platform, sold out CEs and a big marketing push for, oh, 1 year by one of the biggest publishing houses in gaming, isnt having a midnight launch!!!

games like this only come along every 10 years now, maybe never again...

it used to be every 2-5 back when you had black~isle (obsidian) churning out an icewind dale while bioware crafted their baldur's gates and you would get another random dev house throwing in another D&D licensed game just to keep us going when the fumes werent enough anymore...

temple of elemental evil, pools of radiance etc... (not great games, but thats what we had back in the late 90s, early 2000s).

now, no one makes a straight CRPG anymore.... let alone a 60-120 hour epic sotry filled magnum opus!!!

and when it does happen it should be celebrated!!!

hell i was at a midnight launch for mass effect, albeit co-launched with rock band, (the only way it got its midnight launching).

i just find it odd the kind of things that are celebrated in our video game culture, and who says???

madded gets rehashed every god damned year and MAYBE 1 out of 5 times they actually do something different with it that makes it worth while.

yet dragon age will launch on a quiet afternoon on tuesday the 3rd of november. a game that i will be playing while somewhere, some gamer will be trading yet another mediocre madden 2015  towards madden 2016 for an updated roster.

maybe my games graphics will have aged a tad, but it will have aged gracefully. along with a story that can be gladly explored for its many facets and emotions that rivals any big budget hollywood summer blockbuster...

but there will be those of us who know were experiencing something special, if only quietly in our own little gaming conclaves, while we worship our digital gods...

:innocent:
:o:O:O:):P:o:):o:P:P:):lol:^_^:whistle::whistle::wizard:

I think L4D2 has much more mass media pull. L4D2 has 3 times the pre order numbers of the original.

I'm not really surprised.

DAO seems like one of those games where everyone went "Holy ****, it sold XXXXX amount of units and went gold!" I don't think that people, retailers included, really expected DAO to explode like it has so no one was really prepared for something like a midnight release. That's not something you just come up with on the fly. They are usually scheduled pretty far in advance, are they not? Don't want to open a shop at midnight and no one show up because they only had a few weeks to promote it.

yep and it seems DA:O already has some impressive pre order numbers for the consoles.

Though i wouldn't put that much faith in VG Chartz

I know, that's impressive. But 1.6 million for MW2 for X360 only, that's insane.

Yeah, that's another league, don't see any RPG get there any time soon.

The only RPG I could see having better presales would be the next Elder Scrolls seeing as they completely owned the mainstream market with Oblivion.

Face it, the RPG community has had a complete lack of really good and emmersive games for many years and only seems to have the rare gem once in a blue moon that turn out to be really great. I can only think of about 3 RPG games I've really liked since Chrono Trigger. LOL

Are you saying better than MW2's sales, because that will be quite an achievement for an RPG.

Better than DAO. If it got better sales than MW2, I'd crap bricks.

A few gamestops around detroit/ann arbor area are doing midnight releases for those who pre-ordered it.

Midnight openings are up in the air unless it's a huge, huge title. My local GameStop did one for Fallout 3 last year and about 25 people showed up, which is actually pretty big for most but the huge titles. I don't know how DA:O is doing compared to Fallout 3 in pre-order terms, but my guess is not anywhere near as wel since that game managed to get FPS fans attention.

So the lack of midnight openings is no surprise. Though, to be honest, I'm thinking about hitting up the nearest 24 hour Walmart next Monday night now that I know they got their shipments already. :-)

As much as i like your enthusiasm but there are far bigger releases this holiday season, sorry to burst you bubble there. Not all gamers shizz their pants because of an rpg which unfortunately looks very "meh" on screenshots and is already notorious for LONG cutscenes and dialogue. Modern Warfare 2 or Left 4 Dead 2 will outsell this by quite a bit, heck even Assasins Creed 2 will.

I checked with my local gamestop and they only have 10 pre-orders, but they did say there *might* be a midnight release at a store 40 minutes away.

My friend is a manager at one of our local gamestops, and he said that the word from the top is that the company didn't feel that they got enough preorders to justify the midnight opening. I guess selling out of CE preorders, and everyone going crazy for the game isn't enough in GS's eyes.

bummer... might end up going to wal mart at midnight. maybe that would spurn GS to do a midnighter if they knew they would lose sales due to crack heads like myself wanting to get it at midnight.

or maybe i will grab a 360 version at midnight at wal mart for the MRs to play in the living room and still get my PC copy the next day. damn, only 2 more whol;e days of not having the game. tonight is almost over for all intents and purposes, and sunday i have football to keep my busy, i have my sunday night shows- dexter, californication, curb your enthusiasm... so tomorrow will fly by nicely.

and then monday? well hopefully i will be celebrating DAO eve!!! and maybe even grabbing it at midnight...

If anyone is near a Meijer Store, they are 24 hours. The manager there said that they will be selling the game at 12:01 Tuesday morning (Monday Night) for those who can't wait a few hours. Also for some retarded reason a 7-11 down the street from me is already selling Dragon Age. Im not sure why I've never heard of a 7-11 selling games, but I stopped in for a domo slushie and saw them amongst other games for sale.
