games like this only come along every 10 years now, maybe never again...
it used to be every 2-5 back when you had black~isle (obsidian) churning out an icewind dale while bioware crafted their baldur's gates and you would get another random dev house throwing in another D&D licensed game just to keep us going when the fumes werent enough anymore...
temple of elemental evil, pools of radiance etc... (not great games, but thats what we had back in the late 90s, early 2000s).
now, no one makes a straight CRPG anymore.... let alone a 60-120 hour epic sotry filled magnum opus!!!
and when it does happen it should be celebrated!!!
hell i was at a midnight launch for mass effect, albeit co-launched with rock band, (the only way it got its midnight launching).
i just find it odd the kind of things that are celebrated in our video game culture, and who says???
madded gets rehashed every god damned year and MAYBE 1 out of 5 times they actually do something different with it that makes it worth while.
yet dragon age will launch on a quiet afternoon on tuesday the 3rd of november. a game that i will be playing while somewhere, some gamer will be trading yet another mediocre madden 2015 towards madden 2016 for an updated roster.
maybe my games graphics will have aged a tad, but it will have aged gracefully. along with a story that can be gladly explored for its many facets and emotions that rivals any big budget hollywood summer blockbuster...
but there will be those of us who know were experiencing something special, if only quietly in our own little gaming conclaves, while we worship our digital gods...
:innocent:
