This used to be a spirit magic spell, but seems to be a blood magic thing now, considering how much of an issue characters make of it in DA2. Obviously, it isn't in either spell tree in the game, but I was wondering if that means raising the dead is now a blood mage only thing? Story-wise, normal mages couldn't do something like that without getting all knife-happy and spilling blood?

AFAIK, even Blood Magic simply "invites" a demon to occupy the corpse, much like what was occuring in the castle at Redcliffe.

Hmm, so blood magic invites a demon to occupy the corpse.
Then with spirit magic, was it just the mage manipulating a corpse with magic (like telekinesis)?

My guess is that Spirit magic does essentially the same thing, as it wirks with power from the Fade. It appears that Demons and even other spirits are not too snobbish about coming for visits.

I seem to recall that in Origins, the description of Animate Dead suggests that the animated corpse is a puppet of the caster, therefore not being possessed of a demon because of its lack of free will. Perhaps it is just animated by sustained magic and will alone, like I imagine Elemental Weapons to work.
