Well, he doesn't screw over the elves, and the kingdom otherwise seems to be no worse off than under Anora.

Does he build a University? no, does he rebuild the entire economy of the country ravaged by the Blight quickly? no.

But he uses ressources more equitably, hence no famine with the elves.
Depends on what people deem more worthwhile.

While I think the situation of the elves must improve in the future, right now Ferelden has much more important things to worry about. With progress, some groups are always screwed over. An acceptable price.

It averages out, then. And that's why it's best to have them be married.

Which assumes that they can be a functional couple. And that Anora can muster all the resources she needs without Alistair's sentimentality getting in the way.

In terms of progress, I do not think Alistair / Anora would be as good as Anora unhindered on her own.

Fereldan is in huge trouble after the blight.

It lost a huge amount of people to the blight and to people fleeing it.
It lost a huge swath of farmland to darkspawn.

Its power centers: Denerim, Highever, Amaranthine, and Redcliffe have all taken serious blows due to the darkspawn.

I am going to pick the leader who rebuilds the country quicker, which is Anora

The elves are a bloody waste of resources, at least the city elves. The Dalish are a different story.

In their current state, I agree. I'd rather invest in surface dwarves.

The major problem is overpopulation of Denerim. Many of the city elves have to be settled elsewhere. By force if necessary.

I dont think over population is going to be a problem for Fereldan for a good while after the blight.

What with Denerim having been sieged, and Amaranthine a few months later.

Most of the civilians survived in Denerim, or so we are told anyway.

I wonder how many just left the country after that, or left for a more empty part of the country after their home was destroyed.

Which is WHY someone like Anora is needed badly.

It would only take a few generations (if not few years) for Denerim to be overpopulated again.

True.

Although in DA2 you learn that the farmland around Lothering is blighted very badly and things dont grow.

You have to wonder how much farm land is going to be wrecked like that.

Which is threatening to Denerim, many of them might go to the city to find work. Denerim is not equipped to handle that much population.

"The city that has sprung up around it has almost been carved out of the side of the mountain it rests on, and during the Dragon Age, its population has grown beyond the city's ability to cope"

Hence I believe Anora's pro-freeholder laws to encourage more harvest (and maybe redistribute surplus?).

Fereldan needs to build tons of cities along the coast and focus on trade really badly until their farms are rebuilt.

But if they have no produce, what will they trade? Ferelden has not really been mentioned as being a major supplier of anything, that I recall.

I dont think Fereldan would export Mabaris.

They should. It could be a major export. Many nations in the past have made pretty good fortunes from exporting animals they have specialized in breeding and refining.

Amaranthine is apparently abundant in mineral wealth. There is wood in Gwaren. And they could potentially import agricultural products to city states like Kirkwall.

Not to mention acting like middle men between Orzammar and its trading partners.

I managed to fight my way past Cauthrien, hardest non-final-boss battle ever so far I had in any video game to manage, but I did it, and that felt sooo goood ^^

Just to check, you do know you're actually supposed to lose that fight, right? I mean it's POSSIBLE beat it, but it's pretty much geared up to being too tough, and then you get a great little side mission/jail break...

Yes I know that, but on my very first playthrough, especially regarding what she acted like with the certain answer choice, surrender was SO NO option for me and well, the fight was quite fun :)

But I also have read a lot about that prison break mission and certainly are going to do it on another playthrough. Posted Image

This is actually something I think, especially with the mage/templar conflict brewing on the horizon, that really could push Ferelden's prominance forward more than anything, because Lyrium is such a valuable, unique, and vital commodity.
