[HAM Hawke]

In my second playthrough, as a 2 Hand Warrior, I had no choice but to make Bethany a Warden when she saved me from The Blood Mage prostitute during that one quest.  You know the one where you start questioning the woman and she takes control of your mind, makes you pull the knife on yourself and makes you tell her who snitched on her?  In my dialog wheel the option to ask Bethany to help you and she does that "baby mind blast" to free you from the Blood Mage prostitute, helped make my decision to make her a Warden insted of sending her to the Circle or Death.  

Bethany also says the she can't stand the Circle or templars in some of her banter and conversations throughout the first couple of Acts as well.  So Wardenism is the best choice IMO, for my sibling to spare her life and keep her free from Templar reach at the same time. 

I also intend to side with the Templars in this play through since Bethany will no longer be in danger of the Templars.  Those Blood Mages and rogue Apostates that roam Kirkwall have made my "Pro-Mage" attitude weaken with every quest.

Good luck with that. Warden-Bethany actually is pretty cold to Hawke right up until the end. She's happier in the CIrcle because spending her life in hiding was making her miserable, and as ****ty as their situation is, she likes being with her fellow mages and especially enjoys teaching the children.

The only rain on her parade is that creeper, Ser Alrik, who she mentions in a letter. But you kill him before he gets his slimy hands on her anyway.

Yes but the fact that she is a Warden frees her from the reach of the Templars and enables her to become a stronger force in her own right. In my mind, her ability to become a stronger Mage through the ranks of the Wardens would benefit her more than playing hop scotch with some kids in the circle...

Possibly? Her character is established as a powerful mage pretty early on, and there's no indication in either path that she got "stronger". Its up to your personal interpretation, I guess.

I'm planning on just having her die on my next playthrough. Just to see how that shakes things up.

Ultimately Bethany is happier in the Circle. She truly hates what becoming a Warden has done to her, but she never shirks the responsibility of it. Which, quite honestly, puts her far ahead of my Warden, who spent much of the game ignoring his responsibilities.

But the reason why I had to make Bethany a Warden had nothing to do with that and more with how incredibly good she looked in her Warden Outfit.

I just feel as if there is a possibility to have my choice make a difference in some DLC or future title, to have Bethany or Carver for that fact, as a powerful Grey Warden, that would bode well for Hawke in the end...

Considering she's only in the circle a few years before everything explodes and the templars and mages both rebel, I'm not sure keeping her safe from the templars is such an issue if you're going to metagame like this. The only reason she ended up a warden for me is that I didn't know what would happen taking her into the deep roads, but I figured it was safer than a city full of militant templars. Damn Varric for spoiling it at the start of the level! I damn nearly reloaded after he said that in the cutscene with Cassandra.

I'm trying to tell ya, as this Mage-Templar war heats up the last place a Mage wants to be is in the Circle.  She does not know that as it stands in the game now.  All it would take is another upstart self serving Knight Commander like Merridith to annul the Circle and then her happiness would be for not.  Atleast as a Warden, Bethany can move up in the ranks like my Warden did and make a difference one way or another.

I prefered sending her to the circle because before the final battle she says it took being locked up in the gallows to find her place in the world and that is to free her fellow mages.

Didn't I see something some where, some Wiki or something, that said DAO Warden human was related to the Hawke family in some fashion? In that case keeping the Warden tradition alive with Bethany would be a nice touch.

If she's a GW her line is also similar.

There are PROS and CONS to either choice:

Making Bethany a Grey Warden
PROS:
She gets a pretty awesome outfit.
While she isn't happy, she acknowledges that her life has purpose.
She comes to Kirkwall in Act III to help and be with her brother/sister. (I got the impression that she's trying to save you for once.)
She will side with you no matter what side you choose.
CONS:
She's just not happy.
Initially she seems to resent the whole idea.
Mother cannot visit her.
Cannot have babies 

Bethany goes to the Circle
PROS:
She's happier overall.
She enjoys her work with children.
Mother can visit her.
Can have babies (and I don't mean with your Hawke sicko... even if she is the most attractive female in the game)
CONS:
She's basically a prisoner.
She's under constant threat from the worst of the Templars
Doesn't get cool outfit.
You can kill her. (Thats right thats a CON. You soulless bastard for even considering it...)

I like both versions of Bethany but mopey Bethany is just too sad. As a big brother I think both choices are tough. I would never doom my sister to life tormented by the taint, even if the recent Blight is over. Oh and her life expectancy is capped. At the same time I couldn't imagine sending her off to a prison/concentration camp.

It's cliche but in the end I like the idea of saving your sister from the circle. Sure she goes back to being an appostate on the run, but at least she's running with her brother and his band of kick-ass friends.

you cannot save anyone from being a Warden. even away from the order, the taint still gets them in the end

I've done a play through with both options. I don't really have a preference. I like her better when she's in the circle. In the wardens she's kind of a ****. I think the wardens is the more interesting choice, though. Carver, though, I always make a warden. I don't want a templar family member, as I always side against them.

I would take the "taint" over being locked up in the Gallows any day...Besides, It takes a while to die from the taint so there is some quality of life to be lived after slaughtering hoards of darkspawn in the deep roads!

You also have to wonder who your sister will end up dating with each respective position (they will be your potential brother-in-law). As a Circle member, a part of me wonders if she'll continue the family tradition of leading Cullen on. As a Grey Warden, I wouldn't mind if she hooked up with Alistair, but Stroud, not so sure...
