There are some good reasons why and why not to let Bethany become a Warden. As I have stated before, I feel as if my Hawke's decision to make Bethany a Warden was the safest choice in the end. Having her live in an unstable Circle where rogue Templars run things is worse than having her kill darkspawn for a living.

Living with the taint and having nightmares is a small price to pay in order to live without running in fear of being made tranquil and have every aspect of human identity striped from your soul. Not being able to love, hate, or feel any emotions would be unthinkable...

Being a Warden and keeping those things that make one human, without the fear of being targeted by the Circle and Templars would be worth the risk of carrying the taint for my Hawke's Bethany...

Except the Wardens allowed a Templar to join their ranks to keep an eye on Anders. Add in the fact Bethany gets kidnapped in Act 3 as a Warden or Circle, just for being your sibling as leverage to use against you. If anything the events of the final quest in Act 3 would put an even bigger target on Bethany cause she is Hawke's sibling only now not only could it include Mages and Templars, but also Chantry Seekers. At least if she's not a Warden she's might not think of returning to them and continue hiding with Hawke or on her own.

IIRC making Anders a Grey Warden didn't exactly stop the Templars from coming after him - killing the Templars did. Also, Bethany is a capable mage but no warrior; whence it is debatable whether fear of getting killed and taken by darkspawn (in that order if one is lucky) is better than the fear of being made tranquil. Furthermore, Grey Wardens are at best a necessary evil - just look at Duncan's actions in the prologue (cf Fully Informed Consent)

As I recall, those Templars were acting against the rules of the Chantry and in opposition to the laws regarding Grey Warden mages, who are not subject to being monitored in any way by Templars.  They were rogue agents.  And how is Bethany not a warrior?  I seem to recall her killing quite a few darkspawn, bandits, and assorted creatures during Act 1... what else do you need to do to qualify as a trained killer?  That's what Grey Wardens are, right?  I say she's as good a candidate as anybody from Awakening.

Yes, they were technically operating outside their authority. But if they had succeeded in taking Anders, I highly doubt the Templar leadership/Chantry would say anything or make any efforts to returning him to the Warden-Commander. That would be a case of Possession is 9/10ths.

I simply look at the situation like this: Bethany will end up like a female version of anders, so basically anders, if she goes to the wardens. I don't think she enjoys fighting any more than he does, and from his attitude towards the final battle in awakenings, he was definitely not too thrilled to be fighting. The circle is interesting as well though, because there could be good or bad things going on depending on how your psyche in the game is IMO. For me, getting letters means she is not tranquil and I assume that my hawke and bethany are conversing back and forth, plus I see her a couple more times throughout the story, before she eventually joins me for the final battle.
From what I have seen of the grey warden side, she seems to be in a ****ty mood all of the time lol. I would probably be too if I was her, but I feel like the circle fits her more. I am replaying now, and its pretty tough for me to decide between the circle or death from the taint. It sounds like an easy decision, but it also adds even more tragedy to the champions rise to power, who thought that possible?

I make Bethany a warden to get a healer about just after I axed Anders. Past that it's more like pick the outfit you want for her. The Mage Robe that shows a little shoulder for no apparent reason. Or you can have her go to the Wardens to get that Grey Warden kind of caster get up.
