No. They just fixed the game manually from driver. I don't know details, usually it is done by changing shader code. If bioware tested the game before release, they could fix their code themselves.

I'll second this. None of my characters in act 2 are triggering Fenris conversation with the dog pre or post patch 1.02.
I've had every other character talk with the dog (Aveline twice), but not Fenris.
Fenris romance is also active, if it helps.
If it helps tracking the issue:
I've seen some people on character support threads say that this conversation ocasionally triggers for the characters who are in romance with Anders, and two people apparently triggered it with Fenris friendship path romance active as well. Those confirmations are few and far in between folks just saying they never even knew that conversation existed, however.

A few days ago a strange bug started to appear, my game freezed every now and then, I could and still can work around it with just hitting ALT + TAB and because of that I tried the upper mentioned options, thought it would be because of Aveline's Retaliation Skill that in fact was active when the bug showed his ugly face.
But neither installing Patch 1.02 nor erasing the skill, skill effects and the skill itself from her tactics board have solved the problem, the freeze still hits my game every now and then on all kind of occassions: walking around Vicomtes manor, speaking to people, in battle, and so on.
Also tried to play around with the video setting, higher / lower resolution, VSync, Anti Aliasing And Anisotropic Filters at all kind of rates and combinations, nothing helped out of it.
But strangely, everytime I use ALT + TAB or other keys that minimize the DA II window, after reentering it the game runs smooth again for about 5 Minutes, then freezes again, but the trick helps out again.
Also to say that it came up for the very first time when I'd been to the Sunder Hills with Aveline in the first part of her mission "As it should be" after we already had made most of the way to the target of this area.
Well, it's good that you can work around it that easily, but it isn absolutely not enjoyable when you have to play like that throughout the whole game.
I so hoped Patch 1.02 would solve the problem when I read that Aveline's Retaliation-Skill may cause it and so have been very dissapointed that it still shows up.
Addition: Nvidia Beta Patch 270.51 now successfully installed and it seems that it fixes the problem, game ran smooth with high settings and all checkboxes in Video Section enabled, Anisotrophic Filter and Antialiasing at highest rates.
No Stutter, Laggs or Freezes anymore after about 10 Minutes testing time.

Though I wasn't having any issues before hand. These drivers just increased already acceptable performance on very high for me.

This didn't happen once when I was playing using DX 9 but has become a regular "feature" of the game playing in DX 11. I have the latest drivers, fully patched game etc.

For the 1.03 patch PLEASE fix the constant crashes when using DX11 that are forcing people with high-end cards to run at medium settings under DX9.
Refer to the 59 page thread on DX11 issues if you're still unsure.

And why oh why does DA:2 check for approval levels when you all know:
1. Awakening seems to wipe away Origins approval levels (makes sense since Oghren comes back)
2. Golems/WitchHunt also wipe away Awakening approvals.
It makes zero sense.
But yes, I want to know if DA:2 is behaving properly when assuming anyone left at the keep is dead, or is that a bug?

- Cut scenes often start with the second dialog and, if there is none, with the dialog wheel

I'm wondering if this might be due to hardware issues. I had this issue when I was trying to play on a single-core processor with 2 GB memory and a 512 MB video card, but when I upgraded to a dual core processor, 4 GB memory, and a 1GB video care, the problem went away.
Edit: Saw your later post. It seems like the hardware is a place to start, at least, even if people with other hardware are experiencing it also.

DA:2 treats everything the way the codex worked rather than the epilogue cards. So anyone left at the keep if you save the city is considered... dead. Regardless of fortifications and what epilogue cards say.
Also, the game still looks for approval ratings apparently even though those are goneeeeeeee in DLC saves. The DA2 import fix can help you if that's your problem rather than him being considered dead by the game.
You can check in your save to see if the nathaniel is dead at the keep is set to 0 or 1.

As to some of the DX11 comments; you can, as far as I know, play in dx9 and manually edit your dragonage.ini settings to add specific dx11 features. I assume* one (or more) of the dx11 issues is what is causing the problems so you may want to turn them on (or off) one at a time to try to isolate what doesn't work for you.

dx11 crashing after 5sec - 1min gameplay. Latest beta nvidia drivers, gtx 580 (no overclock). dx9 no problems. tks.

This is NOT fixed for me. I just killed Jeven and looted him but it was not on his body. That is after installing 1.02 yesterday at which point I did not even have her Favour and Fault quest.
So ... a whole replay required to get her final upgrade?
