See, I must be in the minority here, because I actually prefer the clip system to the "overheat" system. I much prefer having ammo and being able to reload my gun to standing around like a lemon waiting for my heat to die down so I can shoot again.

Well to be honest, i wouldn´t mind the ammo system if i didn´t have to look for ammo continually.

I would not mind a system where ammo was in, if for example out of combat, your ammo filled up automatically. So say that while you are fighting you have limited resources, but once the fight is over, instead of "clip searching time!", your weapon start refilling it´s own ammo. I think it would be less limiting and still allow you to make a shot here and there for fun (let´s shoot at this lamp, or this crate box) without worrying about ammo.

I agree. Shep should have more tools in the Arsenal.

I would at least like something manual that we can use in-game. I've recently been rethinking about how it could work and I thought of introducing a new power for ME3, at least for the combat classes that can at least replenish a percent of the equipped weapon's Thermal capacity and keep the weapons balanced as in ME2.

I can post in more detail on what I mean, but I also have a blog entry on the idea.

I still want to see this codex entry you keep referring to, I was never able to find one that said they are universal.

There isn't one.  There was a cut codex entry that says they're universal (second link in my sig).

I have pretty good aim. I usually don't have much trouble with "ammo".

I almost always run out when I have to use the heavy pistol.

I understand the point you have made about ammo being a differential element between weapons, and the whole limited resources stuff, but following that theory then all biotics should have a "mana bar" that is spent each time you use a power. I am exaggerating a bit but i hope you get what i meant, i just feel that using biotic/tech powers is a lot less frustrating that my own weapons, because for the powers i only have to worry about the cooldown. For the weapons i can´t waste any shot for fun, and i have to go looking for clips after almost every fight.

Thermal clips add a challenge; I guess you just want to shoot...and shoot some more and never stop shooting.:innocent:

Yes take those things out they suck! I really hate playing find the clip after shooting someone and I get way less shots compared to the unlimited ammo and cool down system.

Meh, ammoless overheat was a cool idea, but doesn't really work too well in-game. I'll roll with thermal clips.

I don´t like shooters too much,

There's your problem.  Go play an RPG with inventory, etc.

Edit:  I support thermal clips.

No, they add an important dynamic to the game. You could have the odd weapon that doesn't use them but they would have to deal less damage. I would say on higher levels ammo should be a more scarce resource to make it have more impact.

Just add a weapon mod the regenerates ammo over time problem solved.

The system needs to be reworked. It was very annoying that after every encounter you had to scour the room for clips.

Maybe you did.  I didn't spend much time on it myself, unless I was being OCD about it and felt like having every weapon topped up.  Most of the time, there are numerous refills placed right along the path you're taking anyway.

A bread crumb trail of clips is equally annoying.

I prefer the thermal clips to the ME1 system. Better gameplay mechanics. I just didn't like how you could only carry a small number of clips for some weapons, like the Vindicator assault rifle.

With other weapons like the Tempest SMG, you'd never run out of ammo.

I just wish we could use gun after we run out of thermal clips, but without them, gun would react same way as in ME 1.

Yeah, that's hardly ever what the game does, actually. Usually, they're placed out in the open in a group, often with some power cells and other stuff nearby.  So, next gripe?

I like the clips in ME2 but I also play shooters so had no problem getting use to it. Funny thing is I am making another ME1 run now so I can make some changes to the story line and I keep hitting the damn reload button after a fight.

Personally I like this idea of choosing different classes of weapons to take in ME3. Once my vanguard got an assault rifle I often didn't feel a need for the SMG.

Ammo system in both games was flawed, because in ME1, guns could fire indefinitely, which was slightly unrealistic, but hey, so is the rest of the game. ME2 you had to be scrounging around for clips, especially with the soldier since he didn't have any powers, and you had to use nothing but ammo.
SO....
Best of both worlds, allow for unlimited magazines, but have restricted clips like in ME2. Since mods are back, you have some mods increase the length of the clip itself, but have the gun automatically have unlimited magazines. That way, you don't have to change guns constantly, and its more realistic to the world of the game. In Shadow Broker, when your on the outside of the ship, I doubt clips would be lying on the ground, and not flying around.

Thermal clips are a far better mechanism than the overheat. I've never run out of ammo other than the Hand Cannon a few times and never had issues picking up ammo for anything but the ability to control and change my fire discipline is important and something you can't do well in ME1 short of nerfing guns with the frictionless mods.

You like the system. I think it has issues, get over it.
