I think this game was meant to be played on the PC

This might be a Captain Obvious moment for me, but I purchased both the 360 version and the PC version, and even though I haven't played through the entire game yet (though I'm almost done with the 360 version), just playing around with both versions leads me to believe that DAO is first and foremost, a PC game.

I played through the Dalish Elf origins story on my computer and the game just seems so much more manageable on my PC than on my 360.  I have more control over my party members, I can put a variety of things on the quickbar, (the interface in general is just a lot smoother), the quest log is a LOT easier to read, and everything in gerneral just seems to be more polished.

Not to mention the game actually looks better on the PC, I think.  I'm gonna finish the game I started on the 360, but after that, all my subsequent playthroughs will be on my computer.  I really do think that playing the game on the consoles is much more difficult than playing it on a PC.  You're very limited when you play it that way.

I always felt consoles where all about the Arcade style games. I have been playing rpg's on a pc for around 15 years now and I really would not want to buy a console. I had one back then but Arcade shooters and racing games just weren't my thing after a while.

Tactical games are better suited for PC. Stop the presses I think we can make the 6:00 edition.

PC has a far more varied and extensive user interface. 110 keys plus a mouse, versus a controller with just a few buttons. So yes, just about anything will be more manageable and user friendly on a PC as compared to a console. One of the reasons I will never buy any console.

Inasmuch as the game was developed as a PC game and they only decided to go multi-platform years into its development, I would agree with you.

That's one of my points and why I think this game was meant to be played on the PC.  I hear that the PC version is actually more difficult because the mobs are a lot tougher and in greater numbers than on the console versions.  I think a key reason for that is because on the PC, you have much more tactical control over the combat.  You can pause the game, issue orders, position your group to where you want them, all of that stuff.  In other words, what you did in Baldur's Gate.

These fights would be impossible to do on a console, where you simply don't have the options.  You can take control of party members, but you can't really tell them where to go like you can on the PC.  As a result, boss fights on the console tend to be more challenging because you kind of just have to suck it up and get through it as best you can.  Ironically, if you'r a hardcore player, if you REALLY want to be challenged, play DAO on the console.

Console = stronger enemies but less
PC = weaker enemies but more

Console games are at best, like bad fast food.... where-as good PC games are more akin to a gourmet meal fixed at home.

Friends don't let friends buy consoles.

I own like 5 consoles and don't play arcade shooters.

The PS1 had HUNDREDS of RPGs on it, as did the PS2.   What you are talking about is a stereotype

Consoles are more suitable for casual arcade games: racing, fighting, sport simulators or the whole Wii-type games, where it's more fun to have the other players in the same room and the gamepad is good enough as a control system. When it comes to FPS, RTS and RPG, the controls become too restrictive, hence why the console version of these games, as you found out with DA:O have to be drastically simplified and made easier with things like auto-aim in FPS, or simplified gameplay/control systems in RPGs, etc...

Also, PCs will always be more powerful except for a few months after he launch of a new console genration. This means better graphics, faster load times, more detailed AI or in the case of DA:O, bigger battles, etc...

So the type of game should dictate the platform. And avoid ports, no matter the source and destination platforms, the vast majority of ports end up being bad.

Which is pretty much why i hardly play my 360 anymore, I only got Dragon Age cause my computer can't run it :(. I'm more then happy with the Xbox version for now till i get a better PC down the road.
