Why did you choose Ashley/Kaidan?

Saving the first team doesn't make any sense to me -- if I chance the bomb defender being over-whelmed, then I risk the bomb being disabled.
As far as who goes on what team: a lot of times I do this accidentally without thinking about it. So my decision is made for me most often.

I decided that Ashley and Ethan, having both been Soldiers and even trained at the same Alliance facility, would naturally have a lot in common. Added to that, the Earthborn Shep is always a former teen criminal, and without parents, wouldn't have much of an education. I decided that despite that, my Shepard would actually be as cultured as Ashley is, further giving them something in common. He'd also be religious to a degree, like Ash.
Kaidan, though, is another story-- while I'd say Ethan and Kaidan were close friends, they just didn't have as much in common-- Kaidan was a biotic, Ethan wasn't. While both were diplomatic towards other races... *shrug* I dunno, Kaidan just never seemed worth saving, even in hindsight. In addition, Ethan stayed loyal to Ash in ME2.
When I got a new 360, I remade Ethan, though the one difference was that he was a Spacer instead of an Earthborn, since I thought thet'd give him and Ashley yet another thing in common. However, I'm considering going back and remaking Ethan again to be just like the original I had, just so the Reaper attack on Earth can be a bit more... personal to him.

Plus, Kaidan is one of the few Biotic users in the game series, it felt nice to have another one by my side through the game. I already had enough gun users. I hope he'll be a good squad mate in the third game.

- Virgine Sheppard (Adept, Ruthless, Earthborn, Renegade): Ashley because as soldier she gave me the balance I needed in my team.
- Sam Sheppar (Infiltrator, Sole survior, colonist, Paragrade(ME1)/Renegon(ME2)): Kaidan because as sentinel he gave me the balance I needed in my team.

I saved Kaidan, Ashley gives me the impression of some gung-ho cowboy with barely any brains, I didn't like her at all, the only redeeming factor about her is the appearance of her armor. And not even because it's "attractive" (Some might say), just because it looks cool. Her personality fit her sitting protecting the nuclear device to the death. The only remorse I felt was because of her sister, but then I got over it because she didn't just have one.

Kaidan's a Sentinel, though. Oh, by the way, did anyone ever feel like Sentinel and Vanguard in ME1 just... flat-out sucked when you started out. I love them in ME2; SO much better than in ME1, what with Tech Armor (though I admit it IS somewhat annoying to see it in gameplay but not cutscenes) and of course Shepard CHARGE!!! However... though I've played all classes except Infiltrator (gonna do that one soon), I have to admit my favorite class is the Soldier. What can I say? I love being in the thick of the action... blame Halo.
EDIT: Ah, wait you edited. LOL... my points stand, however. xD

Saved Ash with my FemShep, least annoying of the two, wanted to nuke them both to be honest.
Know who I thought was most annoying out of the ME1 squad? Liara. She's cool, but just... so naive in ME1. Glad the upgraded her personality a bit in later canon.

Yes men do have a bias towards protecting women. That's part of the reason I saved her. The other reason is I simply preferred her chacter over Kaidan, that and it was the logical choice. Kaidan was one man at the bomb site. Ashley was with a whole team of Salarians. A group outweighs the individual.Da Mecca wrote...
I chose Ash not because I thought Kaidan was boring, I actually liked Kaidan.
I just don't like seeing women get killed.
It's a thing.

If you insist. Anybody with throw or lift is a good squad mate in my eyes. There is no way to describe the joy I got from throwing enemies into orbit after slapping them with singularity, or lift.

Oh I agree, it's pretty fulfilling... just not quite as much for me in ME1. ME2's biotics were much more fleshed out and a lot more fun to play with, in my honest opinion. I LOVE double-teaming enemies by having Jacob use Pull and then I either do Throw (as a Sentinel) or Charge (as a Vanguard).

Given a choice, I wouldn't sacrifice either, but I probably wouldn't have brought her along from Eden Prime in the first place.

I preferred when biotics would work on protected enemies, might have had a long cool down, but at least when I sent them into orbit in that game, they would die. ME2 biotics are fun, but whenever I send somebody into orbit, they don't die from the fall, and end up getting back up in some amazing miraculous feat. I do like slamming enemies though.

Warp, I like. Pull? I like. Shockwave? Pff... pansies use it. I'd rather use a maxed-out Throw with area effect myself. Also, Slam is very very VERY satisfying to use... Probably tied with Charge as my favorite biotic power.

Besides someone else escaped the nuke blast as we saw in ME2, so it's possible the one left behind actually made it out too.

With DA, Bioware has shown that death means nothing and the person can easily return. So Kaidan and Ashley can be in ME3. Reuniting the original 3 squad.

Uh... what? Someone else escaped? If you mean Rana, that was before the bomb was even deployed, let alone active. I'd like for both Kaidan and Ash to have survived, but the area the nuke destroyed would've killed one of them, and everyone still in the vicinity. Either of them got vaporized, no way around it.

Think he's referring to how Bioware will literally just zap them in from thin air regardless of how they actually died and how (un)likely their return would be without offering any reasonable explanation if they should wish to do so.Urdnot Orrad wrote...
