you were saying you didn't save her in ME1 because she didn't like aliens. I told you, you could change that if you wanted to, and yet you whine about what she says in ME2. Sounds like you have a problem. Sounds like you just don't like her and no evidence that what you say is wrong is going to change your viewpoint. Also I believe she says something like I don't like aliens but I couldn't work for an organization like cerberus

The purpose of debate is not to change the other's viewpoint, but to express your own coherently so the other will at least take it into consideration. Yet judge from the very 1st sentence in your post, you're not doing too well in the coherence department. Sounds more like you just like her and anyone who doesn't as much as you do has a problem. Oh well.

Nah it doesn't bother me much, just annoying that you were saying you chose kaidan because she didn't become more accepting of aliens, without noting it was your own fault that she didn't.

It's not my fault for it was not my responsibility to save her. Also, I didn't even have to convince Kaidan to be a better team player and/or work with aliens. So naturally who do you think will be a more valuable asset on the team?

I've always had this theory that Ashley is the archetypical military/hillbilly babe, there to please the group of ethnocentric players who don't enjoy aliens (and other cultures in general). I don't have anything against conservatives (or Ashley for that matter), but it always struck me as odd how anybody can still like Ashley especially after that episode with Wrex. I mean, seriously, why would you wanna play a space opera RPG if you don't like aliens in the 1st place? Yet I understand Ashley has a substantial fanbase, and it'd be interesting for me to see where these ppl came from, I suspect she's more popular in America than anywhere else.

I'm purely saying this out of my cultural character - I live in Hong Kong, and our culture is fairly liberal/progressive for the most part. And my circle of RL friends who play ME all grew to dislike her because of that. It's difficult for us, having grown up dealing with Chinese/white/S Asians/SE Asians/Japanese ppl everyday, to comprehend outright racism (not that we're racist-free, but). And her character subsequently loses relevance to us.

That's funny because I Iove Ashley and I'm nothing like that (a
relatively young black msnbc watching liberal male born in the USA).
When I look at the way some folks describe her I'm suprised I like
Ashley as much as I do if she really is all those things.  Would Ashley
be some Tea Party loving birther if she were alive today?  I can't see
it but maybe the emotional blinders are on.

As for the Wrex
incident (you're talking about cold-blooded murder one right?), it made
me respect her more as she's willing to step up and take charge if the
situation needs.  Sure, she was out of line but she did it to protect
you and that's just the type of Mama Grizzlie I want on my team.

Ashley FTW!

Renegade Adept ShepLoo - Saved Kaidan, he was with the bomb and it was vital that that bomb went off.

Paragon Soldier ShepLoo - Saved Ashley, Shep let his personal feelings get in the way and opted to save his love interest rather than protect the more important site.

Paragon Engineer FemShep - Saved Ashley, Ashley needed help there and then and FemShep was naive enough to think that she'd be able to save both.

In my first playthrough, I didn't fully understand the consequences and I thought I would still be able to save Kaidan later. Which is a shame, because my second playthrough was a xenophobic renegade maleshep biotic, which pretty much guaranteed that I would save Ash.

Personally I don't like Ashley, but I find the whole space-republican accusation to be a bit odd. I'm guessing a lot of the ME main cast would be republican voters, but YMMV.

YOU SUCKS MAN ! Sorry, but this is the first time I think that of someone on this forum despite all this childish hatred..

That's the most ridiculous thing, the stupidest, most anywhere that I've ever read on this forum. Before saying stupid things, thinking, what kind of silly generalization, and completely irrelevant, keep them to yourself. We do not need that on this forum. The next step is what?

People who make insulting prejudices on others without knowing them, are the worst.

What is the relationship with America? I'm French.

What is the relationship with conservatism? I am a liberal and black. I hate racism. So? What can you tell me?

People who like Jack, are punks ? or Skinead?

And Ashley is not racist, you're convinced thee alone. You do not like it, it looks at you, I do not care, you find it racist, I do not care as it is your opinion. I took the time to watch Ashley was unlike you it seems.

Then look for the aliens in a game, with racism in real life, I think it's a great show bull****.

Everyone's opinion on the character it's normal.
However, trying to better measure your words, I feel that you talk a lot without thinking;

I picked Ash because she was strong, tough and had a spiritual side that I admired. I got annoyed with her when she called me a traitor, but forgave her when she sent me that E-mail.

I sent Ashley to lead the Salarians, as I thought their team could use her military toughness (as a Soldier class). With Kaidan left with the bomb, when the choice came I decided it was more important to secure the bomb site, and make sure it couldn't be de-activated. So I went back and protected Kaidan (and the bomb). Obviously ultimately that doesn't play into the game as a consequence, however it was a 'what would I really do?' moment

Well, I saved Kaidan once, that was with my Shepard who makes everything into a cost/benefit analysis for the human race and himself (Generally paragon, since being nice and gaining allies is a benefit for humanity, especially in the face of annihilation (but blowing up the collector base, for instance, is just foolish). As the pragmatist he is, he figured that Kaidan is a rarer and more valueable member of the human race, being a biotic soldier who is even pretty good with tech. He has a reasonable personality and was always officer potential, only downside is lack of charisma and the headaches. Now, Ashley is a brave and reckless soldier. Emotional. Not too rare. Would benefit more of martyrdom than Kaidan. Would even want it to redeem her family name.

In all the other playthroughs I saved Ashley. I just liked her more. Kaidan was bland and pretty boring and even blessed with both Carth's voice and personality. I didn't care much for Carth in KotOR and more of him doesn't make things better.

i saved kaidan being male shepard. Even when kaidan was a bit boring he saved my ass many times with his decryption/tech habilities for containers and sealed doors and also reparing the mako.(Actually tali was my main tech companion, but i found kaidan more usefull with tech+biotics than ash only being a tank.)

Being a soldier Ash was not really as usefull for the team as Kaidan.

Actually tech was a big factor in ME1, while in the second was expendable.

At first I was like, Kaidan... and then I was like Ash has family... I imagined my Shepard telling her sisters he had to nuke her in order to save the galaxy. Sucks ass.

Kaidan annoyed me and seemed like a pretty boring character.  Ash wasn't much better but it was the lesser of two evils.

I usually save Ash. There were only two playthroughs where I saved Kaidan. First time it was done for the sake of romance (as I want to have perfect saves with all possible romances) and Kaidan's romance was just awful for my taste.

First he assumes that my Shep and he have some relationships because she asked about his past. Like woman can't just talk to a man without any sexual intentions! As I played ME2 first, I didn't know how romance in ME1 worked and I was waiting for appropriate dialog to appear, and this attitude "You asked about my past, you must be into me" caught me off guards. This made me cringe, but it was 'Kaidan' run so I braced myself and continued.

Then at the end of the game, when my femShep needed some moral support and someone to tell her that everything is going to be fine, he started to whine about chain of command! Crist, this man needs a mother(who would approve sticking to the rules), not a lover! I facepalmed and it was the death-warrant for him. If he puts military regulations over feelings of his beloved woman, he should be eradicated from gene pool forever.

Ashley at least got some character development. In the beginning she was hating on aliens explicitly, but by the end she was able to put her personal feelings aside and fight to the death saving Kirrahe and his team. She deserved to live for this. And also I just personally like her a lot more than Kaidan, and I wish she was femShep's female LI instead of Liara.

The second time when Kaidan survived was my 'celibate' manShep playthrough. I needed manShep without romance, and I was afraid that if I save Ash, she might see it as some personal interest from my manShep, and I didn't want her to assume anything like that, so I nuked her.

As for ME3, I really hope there's a GTFO option there. Thanks to the writers I'm willing to take Ash/Kaidan back only with Sheps to whom they were LIs, and I don't see what non-LI Ash/Kaidan can do to make me want them back on the team after what happened on Horizon. And if I'll be railroaded into having them on the team, I hope it can be played as 'I had to choice but to let you join us'.

I kind of cringe seeing some of the reasons why people make their choice :-/ Most it is just "Cuz she's a girl"

I thought over this heavily and figured Kaiden could bring alot more good to the universe since he wasnt so opposed to aliens, and having a higher rank he could have more power to influence things. Where as Ashley is a soldier grunt that dont like aliens in a huge galaxy where humans arent alone.

Hm why did I save Ashley over Kaiden ..... all I can think to say is :-

I like big butts and I can not lie

You other brothers can't deny

That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist

And a round thing in your face

etc etc  :P

Seriously though I just couldn't stand Kaiden, I mean sure Ashley isn't exactly personality of the year but my god Kaiden took it to new levels of urghhhhh.

This post alone made finding this thread again totally worth it. LOL

I saved ash because she was my 2nd least favorite character to Kaiden... and because I only play as Sheploo.
