You mean like why did I pick who I picked on Virmire? Well it's easy Ash is a tank she was a tactical choice comparing Ash to Kaiden he's not strong, not able to hold his own in a fight,he's more annoying both look and personality wise then Ash, and he can easily be replaced. Teaming up Ash + Wrex is super tank mode. I killed kaiden 4 out 5 times

I only saved him once because as fshep I feel obligated like the story screams save the man! So finally I saved him cuz I felt so bad killing him all the time.

Though when I saw Ash's new pick I was surprised she let her hair down and she now looks bad and I almost thought kind of ugly with the shot they took of her but then I saw Kaiden and was like ok she looks kinda bad at that angle but he just looks annoying and ugly as usual. BW any future male human for fshep remedy this make them look hot you're failing so bad on this part.

Nah it doesn't bother me much, just annoying that you were saying you chose kaidan because she didn't become more accepting of aliens, without noting it was your own fault that she didn't.

It's not my fault for it was not my responsibility to save her. Also, I didn't even have to convince Kaidan to be a better team player and/or work with aliens. So naturally who do you think will be a more valuable asset on the team?

Ash DID work with aliens. She isn't rasist, what she is saying is that each species is more likely to save thier own kind than an alien. There is nothing racist in what she says, it's just overreactions from people. It isn't racism because what she says applies to humanity.

The Dog and the Bear story for example. She is saying that if the only way to save yourself was to leave you dog to die, you would.
Her example works like this:
The reapers will kill everything, no matter what.
The only way for the Turians to save themselves is to leave the Humans to die and run. Staying means both will die. Ashley believes they would run.
The only way to save humanity was to leave the Turians to die and run. Staying means both will die. Ashley believes humans would run too.

If the only way to save your family from a disease was to steal a cure from a family of a different race, would you? And if you did, does that make you rasist?

It's not about racism, it being loyal to your homworld.

You are from Hong Kong. If there was a war between Hong Kong and America, which side would you support?
Bioware introduces new speciesof animal and aliens. You never seen them before and you don't know which are which. Could you decide which are the aliens from a distance. If you saw a picture of an Elcor, without knowing anything about them, would you honestly think they were capable of speech and space travel or would you think they are animals used for transport, like elephants?

I sent Ashley to lead the Salarians, as I thought their team could use her military toughness (as a Soldier class). With Kaidan left with the bomb, when the choice came I decided it was more important to secure the bomb site, and make sure it couldn't be de-activated. So I went back and protected Kaidan (and the bomb). Obviously ultimately that doesn't play into the game as a consequence, however it was a 'what would I really do?' moment

That's exactly how I played it first time too. Protecting the bomb-site was the pragmatic thing to do, and that happened to mean saving Kaidan. On subsequent playthroughs, I've saved both about the same number of times with various combinations of romance or no romance.

I pondered a hell lot when I had to take that decision... I think I let Shep 1 half of hour there thinking, I was thinking at one point "heck, I'd have to make this decision in 2 seconds irl... what would I choose in real time? First reasons to come up to min.... Kaidan = Carth... wait... DIEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"

oh I love seeing all this "Ashley is racist" and 'kaidan's a whiner" when Tali's not even trying to not sound racist about the geth and Garrus is "oh whaaa C-sec has rules, whaaa my team on Omega died" love seeing the human characters suck bias in full effect.

Kaidan:
* ranking officer
* stable L2 with significant biotic power
* tech training
* medic
* part of the crew originally picked by Anderson
Also in my playthroughs:
* went with Shepard to bomb site (tech goes with the bomb, soldier goes with salarians)
* geth could easily overwhelm him and disable the bomb (okay, I know they don't, but that's metagaming. how easy was it to disable elias kelam's nuke? ridiculously so)
* Shep's first job is to see the bomb go off
* was part of Shep's team, therefore my Shep feels a stronger responsibility to get that person out

Conclusion: save Kaidan every time

Additionally, the fact that my shep ends up with Kaidan makes me/her feel hugely guilty about leaving Ashely behind. but cold, hard facts come first. the mushy stuff comes after.

 Ashley survived in my main playthrough, but I didn't choose her over Kaiden.

I picked Kaiden to go with the salarians because I figured he had more spec ops experience. Then later I sent the Normandy to secure the bomb, as blowing up the base was paramount. I didn't base my decisions on who I liked best.

I chose Ash, because she had my back... putting down that rabid Krogan just when he was getting ready to waste me after everything my Shep did for him...bah. Ash no question.

Honestly, if it comes down to it, Kaidan is the more valuable Alliance asset. Ashley's skill set, while impressive, is not particularly uncommon. Kaidan is a biotic, and is indeed among the first generation of human biotics. His experience as a biotic, and his training as an officer, makes him the clear choice of whom to save. Considerations of whose personality is more appealing shouldn't enter into the equation, since the choice of whom to save should be a dispassionate, strategic decision. That said, saving Ashley isn't necessarily a bad idea from a story standpoint, but Kaidan's value to the Alliance is undeniably greater than Ash's.

I've always had this theory that Ashley is the archetypical military/hillbilly babe, there to please the group of ethnocentric players who don't enjoy aliens (and other cultures in general). I don't have anything against conservatives (or Ashley for that matter), but it always struck me as odd how anybody can still like Ashley especially after that episode with Wrex. I mean, seriously, why would you wanna play a space opera RPG if you don't like aliens in the 1st place? Yet I understand Ashley has a substantial fanbase, and it'd be interesting for me to see where these ppl came from, I suspect she's more popular in America than anywhere else.

I'm purely saying this out of my cultural character - I live in Hong Kong, and our culture is fairly liberal/progressive for the most part. And my circle of RL friends who play ME all grew to dislike her because of that. It's difficult for us, having grown up dealing with Chinese/white/S Asians/SE Asians/Japanese ppl everyday, to comprehend outright racism (not that we're racist-free, but). And her character subsequently loses relevance to us.

/facepalm

Yes because as we know China is waaaay more diverse than America... oh wait (not bashing China just stating a fact). I like how it says Chinese/S Asian/SE Asian/Japanese when those are all just Asian and while their cultures are vastly different I wouldn't consider that a great example of diversity.
Also that is not a good analysis of Ashley's character at all... and even worse the analysis of her fan base (Liking Ashley= hating aliens from anything... what?). Quite frankly I'm insulted.

Come to talk about how you don't trust anyone again Carth?  Maybe sprinkle in a sobstory about your past, blame me for your failings and cry about how I butchered everyone I saw? I prefer HK-47 :devil:

im in an impossible situation here. i love mirandas abilities and kaiden should be nothing less then a sentinel so having those two together sounds very apealing for my (hopefull) awesome ME3 adept. or do i save the totally hot brunette, because the world will never have enough hot brunettes.

all in all, it depends on how im feeling at the exact moment the choice happens on virmire.

.......usually being kaiden.

Intellectually, this is what my primary Shepard told herself as to why she chose Kaidan over Ash.  This was her official answer.
However, if she is really honest with herself, she saved him because she loved him.  As much as Ash was like a sister to her and as difficult as the decision was on her, she had to chose him.

Of all the male LI's in the series, Kaidan is the only one that asks nothing of Shepard during the romance.  He has depth.  He tells her of his history, not for her her fix him, but to help her.  kaidan supports her regardless of the decisions that she makes.  He doesn't make her go through loyalty misssions to gain his love and trust.  That's why the character has my trust and loyalty.  Horizon was devastating.  But I have faith that Kaidan will see through the Cerberus lies and come back to femShep to be her partner in defeating the reapers.

I saved Ashley cause she was my LI. After seeing her behavior in ME2 and moving onto the much better pairing of Shepard and Miranda, I realized I should have left Ashley to die and saved Kaiden. I actually really liked Kaiden, unlike Ashley he was likable and good to talk to. When I choose not to save him I now realize I was letting my Shepard think with his rod instead of his brain. Also after seeing wow cool Kaiden will look in ME3, I really regretted it. In ME3 Ashley looks as bad as usual.
