I know there have been other threads about this, but they didn't seem to go anywhere. Why is Udina the councillor in the Expanded Universe? Do they operate under the assumption Udina was chosen, or will there be an explanation in Mass Effect 3 if you elected Anderson? This has just been bugging me a bit.

Because Anderson resigned as a councillor even if you nominated him.

I guess it makes more sense if Udina is councilor. He's the politician.

Besides, Anderson starred in the third book. In saves where he was Councilor in ME2, I think he will have stepped down as Councilor to pursue the events in the third book, with Udina taking over in ME3.

I've heard this explanation, and it is satisfying, but do we have official confirmation? I haven't heard anything definitive from the writers.

*sighs*

I really wish they hadn't done that with the expanded universe. I almost stopped reading Retribution when I got to that point.

I selected Anderson for a reason, and I'll be less than thrilled if/when we get to ME3 and he's not on the Council.

I was disappointed with Anderson in ME2 ... I was unimpressed when I heard the Council asking why Udina was not at the meeting as Shep arrived (implies that they have more trust/respect in Udina), unimpressed when Anderson commented that he let Udina do the work (politikin' / ambassador) that he didn't care to do and unimpressed as he complained how his life wasn't the way he had wanted it.

Really? Try losing two years of your life moron, along with your friends and LI (if you had one). I'm sure that my Shep didn't plan on his/her life being spent dodging bullets & biotics, running from Thresher Maws, sleeping for two years while having his LI turned cold (VS or Liara) out of grief.

My Shep gets you on the council where you can do more for humanity then in the military and you complain while also admitting that you have someone else do a portion of your job? I actually felt sorry for Udina, here he is doing the work with none of the recognition. I guess we all have been in that place.

The game is like real life ... I can't stand either choice in the election - Udina or Anderson.
