Since this keeps coming up and community members as well as myself have to keep addressing it, I figure it's time to make an official statement

equips flame-retardant forum hat

The Isabela Slo-Mo issues caused by Thumbs-Up buff is fixed in 1.02 - this applies to armor set bonuses as well as Sebastian's Damage Resistance buff as well. That said, this fix is NOT RETROACTIVE and will require you to either start a new playthrough or simply load back to a save where this problem didnt exist (or at least wasn't unplayable) - even if you have the issue on your character you can still play without it getting any worse. If you use the gffeditor [http://social.biowar.../index/7013903/] to fix your values and save it, it will be permanently fixed (ie. you only need to do this once).

Now, I'm being told that a retro-active fix is in the testing process as of today but as I'm sure you're all painfully aware this process is rather lengthy. Assuming it goes over properly it will be included in the next patch but this won't be for about a month (approximately how long it took from launch until today). These dates and fixes are all subject to change so don't expect them to be exact. <_<

I give my own personal condolences for this issue as I know how frustrating it can be. We're working as fast as possible to resolve these issues but in the mean time, don't hesitate to take advice from some of the wonderful community members who have great write ups for temporary solutions.

Just thought it might be easier to re-post this here to keep any amendments nice and simple. :)

Important - Always back up your save before trying this. On rare occasion some people have reported save editing corrupting their saves (generally this happens if they used an old version of pyGFF).

Preparing your save:

Take off all your equipment. Go to a companion home not the player home and then remove all companions from your party. You should find that both Sebastian and Isabella's bonuses do not show under Hawke's abilities.

After confirming the above, save, and then proceed to fix the save using the instructions below.

Fixing your save:

- Download pyGFF (the one that says gff4editor-versionnumber.7z) and extract using 7-zip or similar.
- Run daosavegame.exe.
- Go to the menu and click Open File.
- The save file will be in either:
C:\\Users\\[your username]\\Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age 2\\Characters\\[character first name]\\Saves\\ or
C:\\Documents and Settings\\[your username]\\My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age 2\\Characters\\[character first name]\\Saves\\
You'll need to find whatever slot your last save is in (the easiest way is to sort the folders by Date Modified).
- Open the save, go down to Party and click the plus sign next to it.
- Select the name of your Hawke from the list.
- There are two possible values (for the friendship bugs) to be reset Damage_Resistance (ID 32) and Animation_Speed_Modifier (ID 42).
- If those are negative, reset them to zero.
- File -> Save.
- Quit the application, fire up DA2, load save and enjoy!

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much BT! I held off doing the edit hoping the patch would do the work for me. However seeing as it doesn't, I went ahead with the editor. (-80) attack speed, wow.
The game is working brilliantly now. Thanks to Bioware for stopping the issue from recurring.
But extra, extra thanks to the community, author of the editor, and BT. Bioware should give you guys ponies for this lol.

Here are some of my, personal suggestions/additions on editing the save file for a temp work around and a perm fix once 1.02 is out:

1) PRE 1.02: consider
setting the values from 10 to 25. This will give you a "buffer" so you
can add isa and/or seb to your party and it will take it longer to go
negative. Thus lowering the frequency you have to edit your save file. I
say 10-25 as somepeople don't want to unbalance their game making it
too easy. If you don't mind tooleasy, set them to 50 LOL... for a
VERY fast attack, highly dmg resistant Hawke :)

2) Once 1.02 comes out, make sure to follow BTs above steps!!! The patch will fix the bug, but there's a HIGH chance it will NOT fix your save games!

3)
Lastly, some people have reported issues running
daosavegame.exe. If this is the case or it's trashing your save file
then you can just run EDITOR.EXE

If you run editor here is how you find the data:
  • Open the save file in editor.exe
  • Expand 0
  • Expand 16002
  • Expand 16208
  • Expand 16209
  • Expand 16350
  • Under 16350 there will be 45 lines (numbered on the left)
You want 32 and 42 as stated above, but you DONT look for them on the left! Look to the RIGHT
The proper lines will end with 3 numbers with commas ending in 32 or 42
Example: 0.0,11.0,32 or 0.0,15.0,42

Expand 32 or 42

Click on the line with "SAVEGAME_STATPROPERTY_BASE"

That number in either case SHOULD be 0, if it's negative, change it to 0 (or a positive # of your chosing)

Then
you MUST click the save button. This does NOT save your file, it just
saves your changes for when your ready to save the file

Now repeat for the 2nd stat

When done click file save as and overwrite the file

You are done! :)

So if I set that animation speed modifier value to zero in the editor, will that value still increase with buffs? Or will it be forever locked at zero? Like did the patch just fix the issue of that value decreasing, or will it be completely fixed and act normally is what I'm trying to ask.

It will increase normally with buffs :)

I still have the icon in my abilities screen even when she is not in my party.. but using the save editor it appears the speed is holding at 0.0.

I have the same indications as JabberJaww...and my mage Hawke does appear to be slowed down still. The issue affected me slowly so I didn't notice my animation speed decreasing until very late in the game.  Have tried using both daosavegame.exe and editor.exe

Go to a companion home, add Isabella to your party using the party picker. Confirm your party (so that she appears next to you). Go back to the party picker, remove her from the party.

Does the icon still show in your abilities screen after doing that? If yes, then that's a separate bug (perhaps something else that's odd is baked into your save).

If your Animation_Speed_Modifier is 0.0 or higher, then Hawke is not being slowed down.

yes the icon remains, but the bug does not.. just add her and drop her to get rid of the icon

Just so you all know.. and yes we are NOW allowed to say this (we got the official ok from BW a few hrs ago from Rob Bartel)

BT, myself, and a group of people beta tested 1.02 for 3 weeks (give or take a few days) before it was released.. so we have had a few weeks experience dealing with 1.02 and working around bugs that still persist in 1.02. My hands ached from playing the game so many times in different ways trying to identify bugs.

I can say this.. BW has been VERY dilligent about getting this patch out to to the public, and they were absolutely right to delay it as long as it did. It needed a lot of testing and feedback so they could get as many fixes out as possible in the shortest ammount of time and make sure 1.02 didn't make things worse :)

Fixed...thanks all! I have not done the remove/re-add Isabela to fix the icon, but my actual animation speed is fixed.

I used the editor AND the passive abilities override hack to deal with this before the patch.

Is getting rid of the override hack as simple of deleting it from Core/Override? (Haven't done much DA modding.)

Yes, just delete the mod file(s) from your override directory.

Thanks for the instructions BTCentral, works a treat. I was -19 for attack speed, I didn't think it was slow while I was playing before but now it's like I'm going at lightspeed, I love it!

Here's a script fix that ostensibly corrects bad Isabella/Sebastian values if you run it from the dev console during the game:

www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php

Disclaimers:
  • I don't have the bug and have not run this personally, so I don't know if it works.
  • Always back up your save before modifying.
  • Pretty sure the step where you disable all sustains and remove all equipment is very important, so don't forget it.

Is there any reason why the base speed modifier value in the save file should ever be anything other than zero?

Depends on what you mean by "base" I guess. For the PC it should be zero if there is no-one in your party and you are wearing no equipment. But it won't be zero if you are wearing +attack speed equipment or have companions who give you +attack speed.

Based on constant examination, it looks like the value should be the sum of all your equipment % + abilities % + companion buff %.

Simple example is a rogue with base Speed feat and no other modifiers. If you crack open the file pre-bug, you can see the value is 10 (from the 10% from Speed). So if Isabella has reached Friend status and she is in your party, the value would be 15 (+ her 5%). So on and so forth.

I'm wondering this as well. My "base" was 0, but "modifier" was -25. I checked an earlier save, and it was -15. In save even earlier, the animation speed value isn't even visible (those were all saved in town, and not during combat or anything, btw). I also have a "health reserve percentage" modifier value that's negative.
