They should be more scared about what depending on oil does in the long run. But your mind blurs when your making billions of dollars.

Are you talking about carbon emmissions? The world is naturally going to heat up anyway, increased CO2 levels will hasten a process a little bit, but that is very complicated. If we were really serious about keeping the temperature at it's current level you would probably need to look at a technical solution to partially reflect heat away from the upper atmosphere.

This is biggest load of bull I've ever heard, I lol'd.

Im really sorry you feel that way. I hope that worst does not come to pass, but if it does, I hope your one of the first to be affected so you know who was right and wrong.

Thinking everything is OK and that resources are infinite is a nice little ideal, but it isn't the 50s. Wake up and smell the burning oil killing the planet.

For the record, the truth of the matter is that many of the statements you've made are scientifically false and unjustified. Believe whatever you want, just don't impose outright lies on others. You'll end up worse than the governments/media.

This reminds me of the "Ah yes, Reapers" quote. They're there, there is evidence, yet everyone ignores it and pretend everything is fine. Great mentality guys, the kind that gets the planet dead (in ME and in the real world).

True. If people ignore the problem they will fail.

biased scientific studies in which the investigators fiddle the results to get the ones you've obviously read and scare people.

May seem funny to you, but let's see how many is laughing in the 2080 if the worst comes to pass.

You can be miserable about it if you want but I'm fully prepared to embrace the apocalypse. And if I'm still alive by 2080 I'll ****** off everybody with stories of the delicious steaks and pies I used to eat and all of the stuff they'll never get to enjoy.

Lies and unjustified because you say so? Nice going dude. I don't see you coming up with links and evidence to support your claims (I did). If your just going to call me a liar without proof, shut the hell up.

Please go down and hide in your Y2K bunker and leave us alone, thank you.

If you are worried about the planet, you shouldn't have picked psychology.

Regarding oil, it might not be a fossil fuel at all. It could be abiotic from the growing amount of research on oil.

And with ice and our poles, yes they melt, but the real concern is what happens when our ocean currents change from the greater influx of ice water?

So when may lose islands in the short term, but that could be followed by an ice age also.

Reading some of the pathetic responses in this thread is p***ing me off, oh and pwener, I've done my research, and you're talking bull****.

And this is exactly how the goverment and the big corporations want you to act. You've done research? Of course you did. You know who taught me all this? My Global Society teacher and Ethical Studies teacher in college. Who told you? The internet.

There are a lot of conspiracy nuts, that includes all kinds of conspiracies from 9/11 to kenedy to area 51 to Illuminati- a lot of these conspiracy nuts have regular jobs in any field from handy man to ... teacher.

On the internet you can look at various research papers aswell as read peer reviews and critics- thats a lot more than you can say for your "teachers".

Oh no, like I said, Im a nihilist. I couldn't care less. what annoys me isn't the lack of preparation, but the ignorance. Im past the point of giving a damn about the planet. I throw garbage anywhere frankly. I just really don't care at this point in my life.

Pwener would you prefer it if everyone, including you, had to give up cars, planes , tv, computers, home heating, communications and just about all the technologies that have advanced us into the modern age in order to 'save the planet'? (Gosh, oh so dramatic.) If not, then you shut up.

I'd really like to know what makes people believe so blindly that Earth's resources are infinite. But like I said, I really don't care anymore. I tried to make a difference and it was worth a damn, so now I don't care and act like it's all peaches and cream.

Oh dear, children.

Stop panicking. We're not running out of oil. We're very much running out of cheap oil, yes. But Canada is sitting on a massive deposit of oil shale that totals more than all the oil used in the 20th century. It's also far from the only deposit. The stuff just cost more (both money and energy) to extract. The UK has plenty of its own coal, but it's still cheaper for us to import. We've had the technology for 'break even' nuclear fusion (that lasts a few minutes) for a decade now, and it could be a viable power source in another two.

There's plenty of energy resources left in the world. At least enough to last until we discover mass effect fields :-p.

What you should be worried about is how soon we'll run out of indium for touch screens, and whether graphene is a suitable replacement.

Oh, and if we do hit a food/water shortage, it won't kill off the human race, just bring the population back down to a manageable level. Sad, yes, but not apocalyptic.

Nuclear power is enabling us to produce more and more electricity. Most of this end of the world hype is unfounded in factuallity. We will run out of oil by 2050, but, by then, the only people stubborn enough not to prepare for it are those who sell it.

BTW, the price of oil isn;t rising now because they are running out. With India and China begining to drive more and more, the demand of oil has risen. And, high demand = High Cost.

I dont think resources are infinite, I think that when we run out of oil coorporations will be more than happy to sell you wind, water and solar energy. You know why? Because it will make them rich to do that- hence they'll gladly do it.

They don't sell it because when oil runs out, it won't be then selling it, it'll be the companies who are making it now who will sell it, bankrupting the oil companies.

Pwener, with respect, u should give up with all these apocalypse arguments, you're just digging yourself into a hole. In fact you remind me of one of those crazy religious doomsayers you sometimes get on street corners, for example the mad prophet on omega.
