I've got a similar problem and I really hope BioWare is looking into it. I solve it by manually starting the service before starting the game.

Nope, the suggested workaround won't help me. And waiting 5 minutes does nothing. For me, right after I click the daupdater.exe it gives me an error message that daupdater.exe stopped working and in the right corner at the clock it promting message that Data Execution Protocol prevented the program from starting. When I go to the settings I simply can't add the exe to the exceptions, because it gives me another error message, that daupdater.exe can't be added to the exceptions. Now that is Great...

There seem to be a lot of varying issues on this, but I'm sure they're all related to the daupdatersvc.service.exe crapping out on us.
For me and others, we can't even manually start it, and it seems to have various bad effects.
Coming from somone who's never had major issues with infamous DRM like Starforce and SecuROM, I really have to say what a horrible form of DRM this updater is. Legitmate players like us are being punished for paying for the game and the DLC with shoddy DRM programs that don't work when they don't feel like it.

thanks exactly what i'm thinking. I mean I bought the collector's edition partly due to the additional DLC that comes with it and I am punished for buying this game legitimately. Right now I feel like it's just a waste of money paying for the DLCs.

Am I missing something? Or there is still no any reply on this problem? Because now I started a new game, and the mods that I activated with the updater (camp storage) before the patch are not working... So is there any solution? Every time I start the game, a few seconds or minutes after the start I get an error that the updater service stopped working. It doesn't quit the game, but it is really annoying...

I hope that at least the next patch will contain some fix for it.
