I notice that shale's weapon adds nothing for his attack stats, in terms of the base damage, armor penetration and crit. Also, if I try to use hotfixes such as the dexterity one, it totally bugs up his armor and weapons, so that they don't even show anything besides adding the green numbers and +elemental damage. I downloaded my game from d2d if that makes any difference.
Is shale bugged for anyone else?

i dont know about stats but for me Shale hardly execute any tactics i set to him, nor he drinks potions when his health is <25% nor attack enemies at all and i set him use taunt when Alistair is under 50 % health and he just stuck in that taunt forever - on the avatar it shows that he is going to use taunt but in reality he just stand and do nothing ! And when i set him attack manualy and jump on next member, he still stand and do nothing! I think im done with him!

He is a pain to use, I have to micro manage him every second. I really enjoy him in the party but during battle have to focus so much on him to do anything it's not worth it. Just to get him to attack and continue to attack a single target requires me to micro him continuously.

I've never had any issues with his following commands. Make sure your guys are on free move and not hold. But his weapons are all bugged, and you can't use him with the dex hotfix that is out there, or probably a lot of other mods too. Which sucks because I was going to use him for my rogue main as the tanker, but I guess Alistair gets the job.

Maybe it's because I played it on PS3 but I had no issues at all with Shale - he followed my commands very well and became a super bad ass when all powered up with the higher crystals. I liked being able to swap the crystals to make him more resistant or deadly in different encounters.

For the most part I only use shale in his buff mode. It works flawless and lets me micro manage my other character easier.

His weapon crystals are fine...Georg's hotfix breaks his crystals though.
Oh and archery isn't bugged.

Which hotfix are you talking about? Please post exact name of the mod and I'd appreciate why/how it breaks the effect of the crystals.

Zenon - the dex hotfix is the one that interferes with Shale's crystals.

Georg's hotfix? Only know of one of those.
It removed all the attack/AP/armor/fatigue etc from the crystals in my case. Didn't bother to check if it was just cosmetic.
As for why, I haven't a clue

Yes the georg dex hotfix will break the crystals, both weapon and armor. It will It removed all the attack/AP/armor/fatigue, both in the description and the calculation. And if you save game with it, it will permanently break Shale.
However, I tried to replay to get Shale again with out the hotfix. Even without the hotfix, there is still a problem. Although the crystals have correct description, and the large crystal calculate armor accurately. But the small crystal (weapon) show descriptions without apply them in the calculation. So no +damage +crit and + AP.
Anyone can check if you guys get the same problem without noticing it? Try remove/equip the small crystal and see if you get any change in damage.

Oops. I didn't notice that. Suspected it would be that "fix". Damn, I started a new game with this thing installed. I hope Shale isn't permanently broken now even I remove it. Or I have to start all over again. *sigh*
(edit)I check on that. So far -- as i remember -- I could see e.g. a fire bonus on orange crystals...

The bonus (green letter) are fine, but the base stat of the crystal (white letter) will not applied.
If you are using the hotfix the white letter stat will disappear from the description altogether.
In my case, even without the hotfix. The small crystal does not applied damage, crit, AP rating from the white letter base stat of the item. Its description show correctly though, but it doesn't actually applied. Can you confirm this, zenon?

Need to check the white one out, too. The green bonus was fine. (e.g. dex bonus with lightning crystals)

Which white bonuses? Seems I installed the dex hotfix before the first time I unlocked Shale...
checking...
Ok, here goes. Fist look: The shards supposed to have "white" stats? Don't see any. Then I removed the hotfix from the override and checked again. Indeed, there are white stats.
I guess something got screwed up. Have only brilliant crystals, so I can't compare. But without the hotfix the armor goes down, when I unequip the crystal:
hotfix uninstalled:
armor stat shown: 22.50 makes armor value go up from 4 (without crystal) to 27
hotfix installed:
armor stat not shown, has no effect on armor, stays at 27
Makes me wonder what armor Shale was supposed to have with brilliant crystals and without the hotfix. I noticed, that shale has fatigue -10.0% (no hotfix) without the crystal...
Probably have to play an entire new character without the hotfix to find out the difference. I am very surprised this hotfix could break somehing like the crystals, which seem in no way connected to daggers or bows.

What about weapon crystal? In my case even without the hotfix, it's still bug as described above.

It seems I never played Shale without the hotfix. That makes it hard to compare, because I seem to have no savegame without the hotfix anymore.
I need more time to compare those things and basically remove the hotfix and play a new origin with a new character until end of lothering to pick up Shale. *huge sigh*
Makes me wonder if there could be a fix to the fix...

Could you just remove the patch and check if the white bonus for weapon are applied or not? I am very curious if it is just me, or also for other people.
