Major Graphical Corruption

I'm experiencing major Graphical corruption on the PC and it's making the game virtually unplayable.  Trying to determine if there's something that others are seeing or if it's just that my graphics card is on the fritz.  I have an Nvidia 8600 GT, and while that's not an incredibly powerful card by the current standards, it should be more than enough to handle this game.

Even on all the lowest settings, the graphics are freaking out, replacing textures with a complete garbled mess and spewing errant polygons across the screen.  Alt-tabbing in and out of the program seems to clear the issue for a little bit but it inevitably comes back.  Enabling frame buffer effects also tend to cut the framerate in half.

I've updated to the newest version of the Forceware drivers and I've updated to the DA patch 1.01.  Anyone seen anything similar or should I assume it's time for a new graphics card?

I'm having the same issues with the same card. Though, it's not all the time. I can play for a few hours without issue (aside from a random crash to desktop now and then during a conversation) without the graphics going nuts. Then other times -- as it was last night in Lothering -- it freaks out over and over with ALT-Tab and restarting the game only working for so long.

I'm running with 1.01b right now.

I'd love to know how to get this to quit. The card, as you said, is not beefy by today's standards but it really ought to be able to handle this (if even on low) without this kind of mess.

Nothing overclocked, no weird settings, recent drivers, etc... I've not had this issue before with any other application or game. It's a bit frustrating.

That sounds pretty much exactly my story... will be randomly fine for a few hours... in fact I thought I'd cured it after reinstalling the drivers again. But then it just starts up again and keeps shooting polys off in random directions and corrupting textures. Pretty frustrating. Glad to hear it's not just me.

My card is also a 8600GTS, lastest drivers from nvidia. Maybe XP SP2 problem?

I'm having crashes of graphics sometimes randomly.

Are you running SP2 and having crashes or are you suggesting that might be an issue?

from what i gather this is a code problem. i'm running win 7 with an 8800GTS and , quad cpu, 3 GB DDR2. the game runs virtually the same no matter res and graphic settings. it's ultimately too laggy at certain points and it appears to be a lighting issue that comes from too many sprites, effects, or something along those lines as the night scenes are the worst. i don't know if the environments aren't properly sealed for light mapping or not, i've seen seam cracks in other games cause big performance issues. oddly, if i scroll in and out just a little both ways while i walk this often increases performance, maybe the game doesn't render flickering light shading on intense textures while doing that the same as it normally does. either way, it's a real bother and i was honestly surprised not to see an option for adjusting lighting fx on a scale like on many other current games.

I'm having problems like this as well. I'm running a EVGA GeForce GTX275. I get random black polygon popups at random times. There's also a couple of times where my screen has gone completely black for a few seconds and then it re-displays the image as if nothing had happened.

The game is still playable but it is very frustrating.

I'm just going to try to continue dealing with it, I suppose. What choice is there? I do feel slightly better knowing that it's not (deinfitely) an issue with my hardware being underpowered..

Though, I'm curious if many are playing right along without any issues whatsoever.

I have to try to get a shot of it when it happens. When it freaks out, it freaks out.

Same graphic card here too.... I copy my topic post here:

So far I have done everything I can imagine to fix that, but nothing is helping.
- I installed all latest drivers into my PC (including video & audio)
- I also tried several older Nvidia drivers
- I tried all combinations from the DAO graphic settings
- I also put some extra fans to my graphic card (to prevent overheating) and temp is now 40-55 (celcius) during the game
- I ahve reinstalled game several times after dricer updates.
- I also have latest DAO patch.

Weird though, I noticed that if I Disable PhysX from the NVIDIA Control Panel helps for a while - maybe I can play 20min longer.

This is what happens:
www.livepelit.fi/vanha/kuvia/DAO01.JPG

Computer:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual (4200+)
Nvidia 8600Gt (512)
2Gb Ram
Win XP & SP2

It is also weird that when I started this game I played few days before these graphic issues started to happen.
Everything else works just fine in my PC but this DAO.
Has anyone had similar problems who can help me? I read from the forums that there has been graphic problems, but haven't found any solution that works for me.

EDIT: Sometimes this problem crashes my PC and I have to reboot, usually I just shut the game window and reload the game (Alt+Tab dont work with me).

Almost exactly the same specs.
Only difference might be which X2 I've got.

Though my graphics don't quite end up looking like that.

I have had a BSOD twice, but not since patching.

I had the same problem when using the latest drivers.. I fixed it by going to the NVIDIA site and downloading an older driver. I am now using 180.48, and everything's fine (although I've heard the 192 driver works as well).

for graphics problems (i have ATI 4850 512MB):

i uninstalled CCC and relied instead on Vista64's driver

(problem was being caused by atikmdag driver)

DAO's been working flawlessly since then.

not sure if this will resolve your own graphics problems.

i'm on my second reincarnation (warrior's done, now i'm a mage)

good luck to all...

ps. i'm using steam, not retail

hmm...  forgot they had the beta drivers up there... maybe I'll give one of those a shot.  They just released new betas yesterday.  What's the worst that can happen, right?     [computer melts]

Beta Drivers 195.55 were a bust... played fairly reliably for about 2 hours before the corruption came back in spades. Going to try regressing to 180.48 as Ulorian suggested.

I have an 8800 GT and have the same problem. The weird thing is that it just started happening today, and then started happening more frequently as I tried to play. Loaded up another game (Fallout 3) and it ran fine, so its not my card.

I dont understand why it would just start happening now. I don't have the latest patch and haven't messed with my drivers in over a month. I didnt change anything in my computer from when it used to work, yesterday.

DraziusA: Same here, I managed to play for days before these problems.

I started the game from daorigins.exe (not the laucher) and it seems to work. Just in case I also put biggest fan I had to my 8600GT.
After that I played 2 hours without problems and that is a all time record for me :)

I wonder if and when Bioware will do something to fix these problems?

There is a thread for ATI problems, I think you should check if you can find help from there.

Hmm.... I ran through Redcliffe for about 5 hours last night and no issues. Nothing changed. There is, and has been, slight off-color flickering of textures near any open flames, but not enough to be overly bothersome.

This entire thing just seems so random.

Try gpu-z to check the temp. http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

Other than that I think the nvidia 191.07 drivers are bad, lots of people getting issues with those. Everything from fan control not working under load so gpu overheats
