i am about to install dragon age 2. can anyone tell me if i have to install the 1.01 patch first and then the 1.02 patch or can i just install the 1.02 patch ?

You can go from 1.00 to 1.02; you do not need to install patch 1.01 before installing patch 1.02.

In your case i'd wait until they fixed the import bug... so you can use your DA:O saves.

IMO upgrading to Patch 1.02 is worth it because of the fixes for Maker's Sigh, Revive and Thumbs Up.
I might be in the extreme minority, but I have so many different saves from DAO and I've beat the game with so many different configurations that I honestly don't care which version of the ending is accepted in DA2, and I'm not concerned about the save import bug, or Zevran's faithfulness to the Warden, etc.
If there were some scene involving Morrigan's baby, then it would make a difference, but I would simply use the DAO Save Generator tool, rather than ferret out which of my old saves I want to import.
